In this week's video, Yozo from Kurasu did a demo using the coffee compass, a tool for enhancing coffee brewing from Barista Hussle.
The compass helps adjust the grind size and dosage for a well-balanced and flavorful coffee. Yozo demonstrates the process of dialing in coffee using the coffee compass with a twist: He’s using a grinder that he’s not used to. Curious about his approach? Check it out!

"Kurasu" is derived from the Japanese word that means “to live” or “lifestyle.” What began as an online homeware venture has evolved to become an internationally recognized leader in Japanese coffee brewing equipment. We also offer a subscription service in collaboration with specialty coffee roasters from across Japan.
You can savor our specialty coffee at our locations in Kyoto, Singapore, Bangkok, and Jakarta. In 2021, we relocated our roastery cafe from Fushimi Inari to Nishijin. Currently, we roast using a Giesen W6A and Loring S35 Kestrel.
Our mission is to introduce the world to Japanese coffee culture. This includes showcasing coffee products, partnering with roasters, and sharing our signature roasts. Kurasu is not just a retail store for coffee equipment, but also a cafe, a coffee roaster, and a beacon for specialty coffee culture.

This was great. The open narration of the reasoning process was really helpful! I would love to see more like this for different brewers and your coffees!

    Really nice video!
Could you tell us about the difference between using a finer grind size and changing the coffee/water ratio, adding more coffee, flavor wise?
How do you choose between these two adjustments suggested?
