There seems to be a small bug when it comes to symbols. Create text and rectangle. Add paddy and convert to symbol. Editing text it no longer stays centered.

This will make Dynamic Button plugin obsolete. Clean format and variety of examples, Pablo. You can basically stack these alignment and padding rules. (e.g. a card with its own padding rules that lives inside a group of cards aligned in a grid that lives inside website with its own vertical alignment rules etc.) Great stuff!

Hey Pablo, loving paddy!!! .... but I want to change the text colour within a symbol. The only way i can figure to do this is turn the text layer into a symbol. :( but then when i edit the text override it doesn't expand my Paddy container. :( Any ideas? :)
Could you make this work if you make the text of the button into a symbol as well? I would like to be able to switch text colour... not having much success at the moment

Is there any plugin or app that can help me create 2 presets/libraries of plugins to switch between depending on type of work? Cuz a lot of plugins just slowing down the whole process of work in sketch. I need two presets for work: 1) only for interfaces and 2) only for Illustrations. Work on Illustrations in Sketch is really awesome compare to Adobe Illustrator. I've tried to install different versions, but plugins menu synchronizing when I deactivate ones in the 1st or 2nd Sketch version. PLEASE HELP if you can.
HI Pablo! I have a question about Paddy. My buttons are all centre-aligned to the page. Paddy is good when its wordy, but if the CTA is "OK", it shrinks to a very small size. i don't know what's wrong, but I made the same size on 1 group but the background going bigger than the artboard while the content doesn't resize / moving. mind to help?
Hey Pablo, just a thought here: When you align multiple objects together, there is no option to align them by selecting a pivot object; like you do in Illustrator: select multiple objects, then select one as a pivot and others get aligned to that one. I've failed to find that feature neither in Auto Layout or in Paddy. Is it just me?
Erman Kutlu nope, you’re right. That’s just how Sketch works in general. There always is a dominating layer, though. You just have to know which one it is. If you want to align layers to the left, then the layer in the group that is farthest to the left will be the dominating one and all the other layers will align to it. Same with the rest, the layer that is higher up will be the one that dominates when you align to the top. When you align to the center vertically or horizontally then the bigger layer on the Y or X position respectively will be the ones that dominate. That’s just how Sketch works, and the plugins follow those rules. There is a plugin to do what you want, though. But, to be honest, once you understand the rules, then you don’t really need the plugin, you just work around those rules.
There is a way to make a pivot object in sketch, and it is by lock the object/layer that you want to be dominant. So, first you lock the dominant object, second select all objects that you want to be aligned and after that, align the objects. (Notice that the locked object should be selected in the layer panel).
Love this plugin but REALLY wish it would work past 1 level of nesting. It doesn't resize automatically when nested 2 levels deep and more :/ @David Williames are there plans to get it to work?

Is it possible to create a CARD with text, title, image. that you convert as symbol . and then you duplicate the card vertically 4 times, and if you write a longer text on one of the cards nested description, can this card automatically expand without disrupting the spacing between cards and withotu disrupting the card itself ?
Pablo, I am using your nested button symbol method and trying to make Paddy plugin work with that symbol structure and for some reason it keeps resizing to the "state" layer versus the "cta" layer. Any thoughts on how to avoid this?
Hey, Sean. It's kind of hard to know what can be causing the problem without looking at your file. The background layer where your text is should have the padding in its name. If this background layer is a symbol, don't put the padding inside the nested symbol, put it in the instance of the symbol. Dave (creator of Paddy) here. That's one of the key things I built Paddy around... it should play nice with other applications like Zeplin; since it doesn't do any special hidden data manipulation to the layers like AutoLayout does... it simply resizes layers to the 'optimal' size. :)
Just got home from work and saw this. If it actually delivers a better experience on zeplin then buckle up mate, you're about to get famous in the sketch community :) Looking foward to test this !

Pablo, I can't make the stuff works when I add a symbol. Why could this be happening? My process: Make color palette -> Make buttón -> Insert text label symbol -> Instert icon symbol -> Select all and run paddy -> Fail If I only do it to the text it works perfectly :(
Hey, Fede! Try changing the name of your color symbol to include Paddy's numbers. As long as the color layer symbol is in the bottom and has this at the end of the name it should work. Hi, paddy looks to be amazing, except that for me works a bit weird. aftergrouped a shape and a test (button) and want to enter padding for selection, it creates a background shape, and I can edit only this background shape after. i am using paddy 1.07, in sketch v52.2, on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 already uninstalled, and installed back sketch, and plugins as well. do you have any idea of what is happening? thankiiies in advance!

Man it would've been perfect if it can work well with sizing objects on 8pt grid because once you apply the padding, it automatically re-sizes objects to fit the padding. Still a great plugin.
AgentCell creator of Paddy here... that’s a great idea. I hadn’t thought of that. So you’d rather have the object size to a perfect width and height that’s an increment of 8? As opposed to have ‘padding’ that’s an increment of 8?
Hey guys, it's not working if you have nested symbols that include text symbol. For instance, here in the video, if you create a symbol for your text "label", it's not gonna work anymore. Trying to find a solution for it, I'll go back to you when I find one.

Hi Pablo & David, I'm trying to make a button with the text centered nested from a symbol aaaaand within a minimum width of 88px, and I note some things: 1. Text can't be on a symbol (I liked to work on that way...is not a big issue) 2A. Background Button [10 8] work perfect! but when I try to keep the button with 88 px minimum... 2B. Background Button [10 8;w>=88] is not working fine ---> I will create an issue on GitHub with my conclusions Amazing Job for all of you men! Bellver.
Paddy is dead, David Williams declared so on his github wall as of the last 60 days. Alternatives that may not be as effective as Paddy but should help in similar areas include: Relabel Plugin and Anima Layout Plugin. Anima Layout comes from a legitimate company backed by Y Combinator and the Relabel plugin is just some random project on github.
I dont want downloaded any plugins cos I bought Sketch and what have flexible tool for my design needs. What I must do if my colleague didnt have this plugin? Its wrong way! One program -- many tools inside. Thats all!
Easy way to remember the order of padding properties is to use the mnemonic rule: TRouBLe - Top Right Bottom Left. After some time you'll repeat it as a tongue-twister :) Hope it was helpful for you.
I don't ant use any plugins! It's totally bulshit! I bot sketch and for me it to match expensive. If Sketch can rich my goals as a primary tool - why I should use it? Super neat plugin. Although I still prefer autolayout. But: how does Paddy goes with Zeplin Export? There I had a lot of issues with Autolayout....

Can't get this to work either in 48.2 when trying to place an arrow symbol next to the text. The text expands the button, but the arrow stays put.
Even sketch 52.6 version dosen't work properly.....
but what about two horizontal aligned buttons aligned to the right like in material, is that possible?
did found out that having a container behind the buttons is doing the trick either!

I don't know how anyone got this to work. With Sketch 48.2 it does not work as a symbol. Sadly. The sample file I downloaded doesn't work either.

Don't understand how this works with the icon at left or right of text inside the button group.
Chris Raymond the icon should be pinned to the left and the height/width should be fixed. Check out the sample file linked in the description.

I'm trying to make a button with the text centered nested from a symbol aaaaand within a minimum width of 88px, and I note some things:
1. Text can't be on a symbol (I liked to work on that way...is not a big issue)
2A. Background Button [10 8] work perfect! but when I try to keep the button with 88 px minimum...
2B. Background Button [10 8;w>=88] is not working fine
---> I will create an issue on GitHub with my conclusions

Paddy is dead, David Williams declared so on his github wall as of the last 60 days. Alternatives that may not be as effective as Paddy but should help in similar areas include: Relabel Plugin and Anima Layout Plugin. Anima Layout comes from a legitimate company backed by Y Combinator and the Relabel plugin is just some random project on github.

I dont want downloaded any plugins cos I bought Sketch and what have flexible tool for my design needs. What I must do if my colleague didnt have this plugin? Its wrong way! One program -- many tools inside. Thats all!

Easy way to remember the order of padding properties is to use the mnemonic rule: TRouBLe - Top Right Bottom Left. After some time you'll repeat it as a tongue-twister :) Hope it was helpful for you.

I don't ant use any plugins! It's totally bulshit! I bot sketch and for me it to match expensive. If Sketch can rich my goals as a primary tool - why I should use it? In Figma its realized in one click& I what by a license and don't sink - how it works or spend my time to undeкыегву how create a symbol with
