Singapore MRT Expansion

  • Singapore has constructed six rail lines in just over thirty years. Its Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network continues to expand in length and area despite the pandemic, enhancing connectivity within the island.
Information is correct as of January 2021.
Opening dates for rail services from 2022 and beyond are to be advised due to possible delays brought about by COVID-19.
1:20 Correction: Bukit Panjang LRT opened on 6 November 1999. Sengkang and Punggol LRT and the opening of their stations were not animated in the video due to technical complications.
6:06 Disclaimer: Seletar Line’s colour, name and specific geographical route are mere speculations and have not been officially announced. However, plans have been announced to test the feasibility of the line.

    3 things I learnt
    1) The circle line will finally be a circle
    2) The cross island line will eventually cross the island
    3) In 2040 the MRT map will be no different from a 3 year old's crayon artwork.

as a singapore citizen, i can tell you that the mrt system is very important. if you need to go from anywhere in sg to anywhere else, mrt is the way to go for public transport. everyone uses it.
going from any point a to any point b in sg will take less than 2 hours using a combination of mrt travel and walking. buses are also great but are usually better for shorter distance travel

fun fact: the reason why the mrt takes so long from khatib to yck is because they wanted to build disneyland along lentor avenue (the super long road). they planned to build a disneyland mrt station in between, but gave up the idea when hong kong launched their own disneyland in 2005
also if you think everything ive said is false, search it up yourself. they actually wanted to build disneyland in f*ing yishun
