I really think that they should have expanded on the prison yard and made it bigger with more activities
in the 2017 sets they could make a criminal disguised as a policeman/woman
I'd prefer an undercover cop dressed as a criminal, but that's still a pretty good idea!
The problem is, younger kids really wouldn't necessarily understand.

Man this set is amazing! I also love everything this set has to offer. this aslo reminds me of Alcatraz or something. put a fiew zombies in it you have mob of the dead.

In my Lego Gotham City, we just got a new Blackgate Prison as far as I'm concerned. 👍🏻
I have to admit that this set feels like a breath of fresh air. I'm so used to seeing the City series make constant police stations but never have any dedicated location for criminals, so seeing this does feel pretty good. I especially like how they merged the building and island together in such a way that it feels somewhat natural. Also the hot air balloon seems pretty neat.
If I do get back into City, this would definitely be one I'd get for it.

Jang, great review as always. One general thing though. I know you said you don't show Euro prices because of the differences across Europe but since Brickset includes a Euro price could you do that too? I think that is the main/most common price for Europe and I mean it's better to have one than none at all. It would be greatly appreciated! Greetings from Europe :)

ULSWC Is it really that much of a hassle? It takes five more seconds of your time to get far more accurate information than you would find in the video.
There are way TOO MANY helicopters in police sets...

SnX TiF I agree with you about helicopters in police sets in general, but for this set, which is supposed to be an island, I think a helicopter is appropriate. You can only get there by boat or helicopter.

I personally think 'prison island' is a bit dark. Dark and AWESOME!!
If you think it's bad, go on one of THE most expensive tours to Alcatraz, then this place would feel like heaven
my thoughts on this set:
the prison island is amazing,
I love the bed escape feature and the overal design is really interesting
but the watchtower is a bit to small in my opinion
the police boat is ok
the crooks boat is a basic boat for it's size
the helicopter looks like something from the juniors theme
the hot air balloon is my favorite because it's something new and the stickers look nice as well.
and the minifigures are nice but I wish that we got more of those police caps
that the police chief has.

Is it just me, or do lego do WAYYY to many criminals for cells.
2011 - 2 cells
2012 - 3 beds
2014 - 2 beds
2015 - 1 Bed
2016 3 beds
It almost makes sense if you are just getting the stations ( You usually get a resonable ratio there) But if you get all the sets ( or multiple sets throughout different years and only have one station) you have way too many criminals to be able to lock them up.
I'm glad you can get the criminals without getting the station, but they need more cells ( or cell beds) within the stations. Just my thoughts though

3 mini-figures could fit in a cell and there's 20 cells so you could hold 60 mini-figures

I think it would be cool if Lego made a police station as usual, but then they made a prison block set as well. Something that had two levels and like 6 cells and a couple of guard figures, not just regular officers. Then you could attach the prison block set to the full station.

this set it makes sense as a way to get to the island

What's the point if it carries one person? I see only surveillance as a benefit. The boat is a much more practical and probably economic way of getting there and back.

One area you may have edited out from the video that I was curious about - the upper two levels of the control tower [above the police entrance]. Looks like some printed console pieces and a coffee mug on the top floor? Maybe a coffee maker on the floor below that?

yes theres one in new York its an island with a huge bridge going to it one of the hardest prisons to escape know a days i forget the name tho

I haven't gotten a police set in a good while, and this definitely looks like a good value for $70 US, and I'd find it interesting to build onto this one.

I really like the idea of a prison island. However, there are a few flaws I don't like all that much. I also feel a similar way about most LEGO police stations/prisons. I think the biggest problem is trying to cram too much into too little space. So we end up with one and a half prison cells and a shody office area. Ideally LEGO would make a station set and a prison set which could join together. This would mean more details would be able to be fitted into each one.
If they fly in that balloon even 1000 FT away from the island they will be shot down! The police wont start panicing and flipping out! It would be shot and fall into the ocean! Lego what were you thinking every prison has a watch tower! Qnd lego why must every single prisoner have a beanie hat? Why not a full ski mask! That would be a cool new peice! If i was a prisoner and i broke into a prison to help my friends with like 40 cameras i would not wanna wear a beanie so i coukd get seen and then become a wanted criminal! Oh lego what would they do if they were a real life construction team!

Not sure I like the look of this as an island, but you could probably combine this with a normal police station set to have a larger jail area.
I kinda thought the cell for the guy with black hair, isn't a cell, because it has no toilet or anything. I think it's like a punishment place!

This set really took the cake compared to all the previous police headquarters. This is awesome! Looks good, lots of great play. I'm glad :) Not as many vehicles, but this set is also cheaper. I sure am liking this; thanks for the review!

This is a nice change from a "regular" police station. I think it really captured the prison feel well with the prison yard and multiple escape routes for playability.

jang, I think it would be cool if you had a top 10 best and worst sets of the year or season or something. I kind of want to get a clearer understanding of and how you rate your sets. I don't think you need a scale but just to get a generalized best and worst would be good to get an idea of where your opinions lie

So I combined this with the old fishing store and made it a scene, once they break out of Alcatraz(Come on! It's a prison island!), they escape and break into the old fishing store and hold it up, then the police arrive and chase main takes them to my ACTUAL custom made Alcatraz
