it was confusing the way she said it but what she said was they were going to the wedding 'single' ie by themselves, even though they were dating other people. the agent offered to set them up so that CC didn't walk into the wedding on her own. thats why when they met, it wasn't a 'date' it was hanging with a chaperone and they didn't have any pretenses and they became instant friends.
I agree about being best friends for a long lasting marriage. I found that out the hard way after divorcing my ex of 26 years and finding my new partner.
