Slowly working on my '17 Tacoma to bring the wife out to explore the central and south eastern parts of Oregon. It's amazing how vast it is out there, and only a half day drove from home. Hope to cross paths with you some day.

Love the camp site! I’ve found that sometimes, just sometimes the best roads/camp sites are the ones that we find by accident. With a view like that it’s worth staying for! I’m sure you will be coming back to this spot!
Yep, no matter how much I look at maps or satellite views, I still have to put the miles in to see what's really there. And, just like you said, you can talk about finding a spot, and then, boom!, 5 minutes later and you're in a place you almost question if it's too good to stay, or keep looking. The spot you stayed in is very similar to our Mogollon Rim here in the Coconino National Forest in northern Arizona... weather and wind beaten at the edge, but, when it's calm, it's beautiful to enjoy the expansive views below. The trees here fighting the elements have the same story as in your video. Really good stuff and was enjoyable to view and relate to. Now, there's a part 3 to look forward to?! Take care and enjoy. Need to pick yourself up a .45 to take care of cougars. Funny thing is that he/she was probably already watching you. I have, from a distance, watched cougars track hikers/runners in the foothills around us. Even their dogs didn't know they were there. But, that is a campfire story. Beautiful camp spot! I thought about coping your awesome camera work and trusting the camera on the trails but it's a lot tougher than what it looks on video, you have one of the best camera work for a soloist do it all. I get a bit worry when driving in skinny trails with branches sticking out. another great video!

Thanks! Haha, yeah, the sauce was okay without the missing ingredient, but gets truly next-level with that final touch. I just realized I have never gone back and actually shown this recipe in any subsequent video. Maybe I'll cook this on my next outing and make sure I'm prepared this time! :-)

Nice videos. Glad you took the time to make them. I've lived in and explored Central Oregon for 38 years and have found many of the same spots and many more. Green Ridge is a short drive for me but I go back at least once per year. I assume you've found balancing rocks down by Lake Billy Chinook, and also the road that goes from the top of green ridge to Camp Sherman and the great campsites next to the pond near the top of that road. I'll watch more of your videos to see which of the great places you've discovered. Let me know if you want any tips on interesting places to visit.
I love this video. One of my favorite things about your videos is you do something fun and interesting but think of your videos 💯 percent in terms of telling a story, and you do your camera angles and video clips designed for telling that story. But you don't go into each adventure knowing what your story is going to be. I completely love that . We are trying to do that to a degree with our trail review videos , but you are amazing at it. Great job 🙂
Loved the "improvisation" in this video. Sometimes don't plan to much and just explore the trails in a particular area feels really good/relaxing/enjoyable and you can find some nice gems as well like your last campsot ! It was incredible. Oh, and I love you Tshirt too ! Where did you get it ? 😁

That's what I'm talking about you stumbled upon a perfect camp spot. I agree I go out and explore like that but a lot of roads are duds. Somehow if your patient enough you always come across a good spot which makes it worth while. By the way I don't think I would have tried going in that cave either lol.

@15:00 just from knowing you were in Oregon and seeing a couple landmarks and saying you could see Mt St Helens in the distance I found this sweet spot on google maps nice little pull out! (I'm from Canada and have never really explored Oregon except for Hwy101 & hwy 97)
I had another commenter claim that I wasn't seeing Mt. St. Helens, so there is a chance that was inaccurate. It looked the right shape and location to me, so I'm not convinced the other commenter is actually correct. But I'm no expert either. :-) I guess if you did indeed find the spot based on that info, that would tend to indicate I was correct after all. :-)
You are getting better and better at this, different editing techniques and drone footage I love it. Really looking forward to figuring out where this is and seeing it for myself eventually. This is one of the few Eastern areas you have been to that I did not have any experience with.
It's really a gem of an area. I was looking at satellite photos yesterday trying to figure something out for part 3 and realized I still need to spend another day probing around in here...looks to be a few more interesting spots I missed.
Twisted trees, at least when it comes to junipers, are supposed to be indications of vortexes(i.e. places of high energy). I think you can tell by not feeling tired at all.

Great video, as usual! I'm a Trooper guy, but I've appreciated what you've done with your Suby and where you've gone with it. I'm in Eugene, too, so I weekend in a similar radius. After being wowed by this, I researched your epic campsite area and it looks like there is a trail accessing and connecting the rock formations! I'm gonna have to check that out in a forthcoming weekend.

Just found your channel after seeing you in a primal outdoors video. So yes I binge watched a dozen or so lol. Had to subscribe just to see the areas just north of me. I tend to run amok down by Crater Lake and Mt Thielsen most of the time but I’m thinking of going a bit north up to around Bend. I used to spend a lot of time working out in Christmas Valley and Fort Rock area which was great because the company paid me to be out there on their gas card lol Cheers mate and happy trails

@@hackonefouryou It's been beautiful but recently it's getting down to freezing at night with showery days. Even got a little snow this morning. Typical weather. June is always fickle. Last year we only had a little smoke during the summer. Depends on the fire season.

I'm really happy with the Gazelle tent. I do have a whole video about it (and it's not a sponsored review or anything, I purchased this). I find that in reality, at a comfortable pace, by the time you remove everything from the bag, set it up, and install/attach the rainfly, I average closer to 3 minutes total setup time. Still excellent for a roomy ground tent!

That campsite and the view were awesome! Oregon is so beautiful. It was cool that the bikers dropped by but moved on. I loved camping that way in Southern California on a Suzuki 250 enduro...lots of fun and easy access to many high mountain roads or trails. Our governor began Phase One in Virginia and I made reservations for a lakeside camp at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I camped there several years ago and the trout fishing is phenomenal. I'm excited to try out my Gazelle T3 tent. BTW just a short anecdote about my coming face to face with a mountain lion in Arizona's Mogollon Rim. I was squatting next to a pine tree answering the call of nature when I had this sixth sense in the back of my head. I slowly turned and about 50 yards away on a rock outcropping stood a healthy sized mountain lion in a ready-to-spring stance and that 50 yards could be covered in just seconds. I stood up immediately, raised my arms and started screaming, Bill, Eric, I need help! My buddies jumped up from their chairs and ran down the trail towards me. The cat quickly reeled around and ran down the other side of the rock face.
Hooooo wow! My son and I have long been wanting to get a good look at one, but not face to face on the ground. I've had only very quick glimpses from the car, with them just getting away as fast as possible and never the slightest chance of filming. There's something inexplicably fascinating about the fact that we have these dangerous cats in our wilderness. But I don't want to tangle with one. :-) Hope the camping trip is fab and the fish are biting!
Impressive drone footage. It looked as if there was was a forest fire in the past in the beginning of the video. I appreciate your time and energy putting your videos together! Yes I would’ve stopped at 2:00 pm for those views too.
Yes, there are a number of burn areas of varying ages scattered throughout the central Oregon Cascades. I often find myself exploring and filming those areas because the views are often better and you can see the contours of the land and even where the roads lead. Thanks for watching!
Maybe it's just me and I'm getting crotchety in my old age, but I think those motorcycle guys were schmucks. It's one thing to go down a trail and you happen to run into someone camped out and go on your merry way. But it's not cool to go down a trail where someone is camped and get off your rig and explore where they've already staked ground. It's first come first serve, in my opinion. However, you were a bigger and better man than I would have been and enjoyed their company. Good on you, Donald. Just like Edward Shin said in his most recent video: you're a good dude. Well, in fairness, I did pretty much the exact same thing to Jason & Denise just a little earlier in the day. :-) In fact, while I was there invading their campsite, yet more people came up and parked to hike towards that rock as well. I suppose it's to be expected if you're camped next to a point of interest. The bikers were super polite about it, apologized for disturbing me, immediately reassured me they were just checking out the viewpoint and had no intention to camp. I feel it was fair game in this case. :-)
Yeahhh, that was a primo spot. I'm jealous. I don't think my front wheel drive Pilot would make it anyway... at least, not without a few scratches to the paint. :-) No worries about big critters sniffin' around camp with all that good aroma drifting about? Nice footage!
I've yet to have any sort of encounter in a campsite. I've only ever seen bear or cougar while driving, and they were just trying to get away as fast as possible. Thanks for watching!
Sweet ride and adventures! I too have a SUB Forester! 2001 240K on it. I I just got rear-ended at 25+ mph and little damage. I have/do sleep in the back but would love to look into a bigger set up.
I cant wait till we open up from SIP. Saving up for both a lift kit and All Terrain tires for road trips to tahoe and Oregon/Klamath falls. What's the mileage for ur forester now? ✌
I don't track the mileage too closely and my base model Forester doesn't have the little MPG display that most modern cars now have, so I don't know precisely. Based on rough calculations though I think I'm probably getting around 16-18 mpg in town or when exploring trails (tons of stop and go for me with the filming) and ~25-27 mpg for steady highway driving at ~60mph. Mileage starts dropping again doing 70-75mph on the interstate.

I love wagons!! There’s so much info out there from one day car “experts/reviewers” that it is so hard to determine what’s what. Can I expect longtime reliability? Are those CVTs trans that bad? Thank you for any input!!
T Santos as a mechanic I would recommend staying away from any cvt transmission. When there is an issue there is almost no choice but to replace the entire unit. I would recommend a torque converted automatic or standard transmission . Take one of those Subaru’s on a test drive and you will notice right away that the transmission is no good.
I'm no expert. I've had good experiences with my Subarus up to this point but have been less impressed by what I've seen of newer Subarus in recent years. I'm fortunate to have one of the last 4EAT Subarus and plan on running my Forester for several more years, but I suspect that when it's time to move to something newer, it won't be a Subaru.
Love the places you go! My hubby and I will need to spend some time in Oregon! I have only 1 complaint: your music is to loud. I keep having to turn the volume up & down....down when the music is playing & up when your talking
Sorry about that, I do reeeeally try to keep levels balanced. Every video, I make a pass through the entire length looking only at audio, adjusting things up and down to (try to) make sure nothing's too loud or too soft. To my ears (at least, on the devices I've tested it on) this sounds very even across the board. But I'm sure different sound systems may respond differently. I'll keep trying to perfect this. Love the vocabulary.com reference. But it was seriously helpful in reading the definition then actually seeing it via your drone footage. It really helped solidify the terminology and how it looks. Good idea to not go into that cavem that cougar shit was sketchy and looked pretty fresh. When you mentioned it had fur in it... I was like uhhh ohh. Those are some amazing views you got on this trail! Everything looks gorgeous and amazing. Loving the drone shots. However every time I see one now I'm anxious that the drone doesn't crash 😂 I think your getting better at it tho. I should really get that Gaia gps. I think I would be more adventurous if I had it. I need a definition on those "chimney things" 😂 Awesome video nonetheless as always keep up the good work!
For sure, Gaia has become indispensable. I'm frugal but the premium subscription has proven well worth it. Chimneys are some kind of volcanic formation, I guess where gasses were venting and hardened the immediately surrounding soil into rock, but then over time the rest of the soil erodes away, revealing a vertical column of rock. Something like that. :-)

Oil changes and tire rotations at 5,000 miles. Air filters more frequently, though it depends on how much I'm behind someone else. When I'm out solo, really, all the dust is behind me.
T3. I do have a complete video about the T3 which shows the interior with beds inside, standing room, etc. th-cam.com/video/X8Kteaob5pk/w-d-xo.html As a solo tent, it's a palace. If I was regularly camping with another person, or another person + child or dog, I'd definitely lean towards the T4.

Haha, it's not the first time I've had bikers or ATVs show up in my camp, but they are usually just exploring and roll on through without stopping. These looked like motorcycle campers, and when they shut their bikes down, yep, I was a bit concerned. :-) That said, it was a good crew and while I'm usually seeking solitude, I actually wouldn't have minded sharing the site with them. Super nice people, I'd have been fine chatting with them all evening. :-)

I don't have a published list or anything, but it's not complicated. I mainly shoot a Fuji X-Pro2, supplemented by a GoPro Hero7 Black and a DJI Spark. Rode VideoMicro on the X-Pro2 for audio. I can't recommend the X-Pro2 for video, it's simply the camera I had from my still photography days and I'm making it work. The Hero7 Black is fabulous, and the Spark is a very affordable way to grab some aerial shots.

So. I didn’t scroll through all the comments, and my field guide to tracks and scat is somewhere in the house. Fox scat pinches off like that, but that’s quite large for fox. My guess is wolf, maybe coyote. Ah. Ok you checked ~ cougar. Definitely carnivore like you thought.
Well, it certainly looks exactly like the photos I found of cougar scat. And I had one or two commenters confirm, yes, cougar. But other viewers disagreed, insisting that a cougar would bury its scat. We have a very small wolf population here, but LOTS of coyote...I didn't think of that. I know there are foxes as well, though I've literally never seen a fox in Oregon in my entire life, and this *seemed* too big to have come out of a fox. I'm gonna stick with cougar because it feels extra dangerous, LOL. :-)
Specific location information is a perk available to Patreon supporters. That said...I found all these places myself by just studying maps and exploring on the ground. Anyone can get out there and find these places.
This video made me realise how different America is from Europe - cougars, rattlesnakes, no cell service and empty landscapes for miles - it‘s still pretty much wild west out there, while here in Austria the worst thing that can happen is getting a ticket for driving on one of these back roads because most them are closed for motor vehicles, and in case you‘ve got an emergency, there will be two or three rescue helicopters ready to get you in 15-20 min (not kidding).
Haha, well, there are dangers, but with a bit of care and preparation, they are easy to avoid. Though I suppose part of what makes it compelling to get out there is that hint of danger. :-)
I think you would enjoy a Harbor Freight 20 X 60x 60 mm Spotting scope with tripod comes in a box with a carry case. The tripod is poor but on a regular tripod it works great for bringing things 5 miles away to 200' away. Check it out. I've enjoyed mine for last three years. Enjoying this vid, Thanks!

Oh I'm a Ninkasi fan...pretty tough to beat. For a couple of years I had an office right around the corner from their brewery, which is here in Eugene, and I could smell their brewing daily. Love the Tricerahops. Can't drink it all the time though.:-) Lagunitas makes some tasty brews too, and this one was on sale. :-)
I've done exactly that. Went hiking in an established area, great cell service, all by myself. I slipped and broke my leg. I don't recommend it. It sucks.

Thanks! Haha, yeah, the sauce was okay without the missing ingredient, but gets truly next-level with that final touch. I just realized I have never gone back and actually shown this recipe in any subsequent video. Maybe I'll cook this on my next outing and make sure I'm prepared this time! :-)

Nice videos. Glad you took the time to make them. I've lived in and explored Central Oregon for 38 years and have found many of the same spots and many more. Green Ridge is a short drive for me but I go back at least once per year. I assume you've found balancing rocks down by Lake Billy Chinook, and also the road that goes from the top of green ridge to Camp Sherman and the great campsites next to the pond near the top of that road. I'll watch more of your videos to see which of the great places you've discovered. Let me know if you want any tips on interesting places to visit.
I love this video. One of my favorite things about your videos is you do something fun and interesting but think of your videos 💯 percent in terms of telling a story, and you do your camera angles and video clips designed for telling that story. But you don't go into each adventure knowing what your story is going to be. I completely love that . We are trying to do that to a degree with our trail review videos , but you are amazing at it. Great job 🙂
Loved the "improvisation" in this video. Sometimes don't plan to much and just explore the trails in a particular area feels really good/relaxing/enjoyable and you can find some nice gems as well like your last campsot ! It was incredible.

That's what I'm talking about you stumbled upon a perfect camp spot. I agree I go out and explore like that but a lot of roads are duds. Somehow if your patient enough you always come across a good spot which makes it worth while. By the way I don't think I would have tried going in that cave either lol.

@15:00 just from knowing you were in Oregon and seeing a couple landmarks and saying you could see Mt St Helens in the distance I found this sweet spot on google maps nice little pull out! (I'm from Canada and have never really explored Oregon except for Hwy101 & hwy 97)
I had another commenter claim that I wasn't seeing Mt. St. Helens, so there is a chance that was inaccurate. It looked the right shape and location to me, so I'm not convinced the other commenter is actually correct. But I'm no expert either. :-) I guess if you did indeed find the spot based on that info, that would tend to indicate I was correct after all. :-)

You are getting better and better at this, different editing techniques and drone footage I love it. Really looking forward to figuring out where this is and seeing it for myself eventually. This is one of the few Eastern areas you have been to that I did not have any experience with.
It's really a gem of an area. I was looking at satellite photos yesterday trying to figure something out for part 3 and realized I still need to spend another day probing around in here...looks to be a few more interesting spots I missed.
My thoughts are you made the right decision. Listen to your instincts.
Twisted trees, at least when it comes to junipers, are supposed to be indications of vortexes(i.e. places of high energy). I think you can tell by not feeling tired at all.

Just found your channel after seeing you in a primal outdoors video. So yes I binge watched a dozen or so lol. Had to subscribe just to see the areas just north of me. I tend to run amok down by Crater Lake and Mt Thielsen most of the time but I’m thinking of going a bit north up to around Bend. I used to spend a lot of time working out in Christmas Valley and Fort Rock area which was great because the company paid me to be out there on their gas card lol

I live in the Rogue Valley Basin , I'm about 75 miles from Klamath Falls and might cruise out that way for a day's adventure in June sometime .
How's the weather this time of year? I wanted to do some adventuring that way this summer but some people told me the smoke can get bad if there are fires.

Those are all volcanic rocks you're exploring. The gray hoodoo formations look like eroded volcanic ash formations (tuff).

I'm really happy with the Gazelle tent. I do have a whole video about it (and it's not a sponsored review or anything, I purchased this). I find that in reality, at a comfortable pace, by the time you remove everything from the bag, set it up, and install/attach the rainfly, I average closer to 3 minutes total setup time. Still excellent for a roomy ground tent!

That campsite and the view were awesome! Oregon is so beautiful. It was cool that the bikers dropped by but moved on. I loved camping that way in Southern California on a Suzuki 250 enduro...lots of fun and easy access to many high mountain roads or trails. Our governor began Phase One in Virginia and I made reservations for a lakeside camp at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I camped there several years ago and the trout fishing is phenomenal. I'm excited to try out my Gazelle T3 tent. BTW just a short anecdote about my coming face to face with a mountain lion in Arizona's Mogollon Rim. I was squatting next to a pine tree answering the call of nature when I had this sixth sense in the back of my head. I slowly turned and about 50 yards away on a rock outcropping stood a healthy sized mountain lion in a ready-to-spring stance and that 50 yards could be covered in just seconds. I stood up immediately, raised my arms and started screaming, Bill, Eric, I need help! My buddies jumped up from their chairs and ran down the trail towards me. The cat quickly reeled around and ran down the other side of the rock face.
Hooooo wow! My son and I have long been wanting to get a good look at one, but not face to face on the ground. I've had only very quick glimpses from the car, with them just getting away as fast as possible and never the slightest chance of filming. There's something inexplicably fascinating about the fact that we have these dangerous cats in our wilderness. But I don't want to tangle with one. :-) Hope the camping trip is fab and the fish are biting!
Impressive drone footage. It looked as if there was was a forest fire in the past in the beginning of the video. I appreciate your time and energy putting your videos together! Yes I would’ve stopped at 2:00 pm for those views too.
Yes, there are a number of burn areas of varying ages scattered throughout the central Oregon Cascades. I often find myself exploring and filming those areas because the views are often better and you can see the contours of the land and even where the roads lead. Thanks for watching!
Maybe it's just me and I'm getting crotchety in my old age, but I think those motorcycle guys were schmucks. It's one thing to go down a trail and you happen to run into someone camped out and go on your merry way. But it's not cool to go down a trail where someone is camped and get off your rig and explore where they've already staked ground. It's first come first serve, in my opinion. However, you were a bigger and better man than I would have been and enjoyed their company. Good on you, Donald. Just like Edward Shin said in his most recent video: you're a good dude.

Well, in fairness, I did pretty much the exact same thing to Jason & Denise just a little earlier in the day. :-) In fact, while I was there invading their campsite, yet more people came up and parked to hike towards that rock as well. I suppose it's to be expected if you're camped next to a point of interest. The bikers were super polite about it, apologized for disturbing me, immediately reassured me they were just checking out the viewpoint and had no intention to camp. I feel it was fair game in this case. :-)

Sweet ride and adventures! I too have a SUB Forester! 2001 240K on it. I I just got rear-ended at 25+ mph and little damage. I have/do sleep in the back but would love to look into a bigger set up.

I cant wait till we open up from SIP. Saving up for both a lift kit and All Terrain tires for road trips to tahoe and Oregon/Klamath falls. What's the mileage for ur forester now? ✌
I don't track the mileage too closely and my base model Forester doesn't have the little MPG display that most modern cars now have, so I don't know precisely. Based on rough calculations though I think I'm probably getting around 16-18 mpg in town or when exploring trails (tons of stop and go for me with the filming) and ~25-27 mpg for steady highway driving at ~60mph. Mileage starts dropping again doing 70-75mph on the interstate.
Great video! The humbleness of that site reveal gave me a good chuckle, especially after that talk of how often you find duds. Loving the drone shots too. Building up that piloting confidence again?

Thank you for showing us your beautiful state. Your execution is so good! Question... care to share any real and honest feedback on Subaru’s? I’m in the market for a used ‘17 or ‘18 Subaru Outback. I love wagons!! There’s so much info out there from one day car “experts/reviewers” that it is so hard to determine what’s what. Can I expect longtime reliability? Are those CVTs trans that bad? Thank you for any input!!
T Santos as a mechanic I would recommend staying away from any cvt transmission. When there is an issue there is almost no choice but to replace the entire unit. I would recommend a torque converted automatic or standard transmission . Take one of those Subaru’s on a test drive and you will notice right away that the transmission is no good.

I'm no expert. I've had good experiences with my Subarus up to this point but have been less impressed by what I've seen of newer Subarus in recent years. I'm fortunate to have one of the last 4EAT Subarus and plan on running my Forester for several more years, but I suspect that when it's time to move to something newer, it won't be a Subaru.

Sorry about that, I do reeeeally try to keep levels balanced. Every video, I make a pass through the entire length looking only at audio, adjusting things up and down to (try to) make sure nothing's too loud or too soft. To my ears (at least, on the devices I've tested it on) this sounds very even across the board. But I'm sure different sound systems may respond differently. I'll keep trying to perfect this. Love the vocabulary.com reference. But it was seriously helpful in reading the definition then actually seeing it via your drone footage. It really helped solidify the terminology and how it looks.

For sure, Gaia has become indispensable. I'm frugal but the premium subscription has proven well worth it.
Chimneys are some kind of volcanic formation, I guess where gasses were venting and hardened the immediately surrounding soil into rock, but then over time the rest of the soil erodes away, revealing a vertical column of rock. Something like that. :-)

Oil changes and tire rotations at 5,000 miles. Air filters more frequently, though it depends on how much I'm behind someone else. When I'm out solo, really, all the dust is behind me.

As a solo tent, it's a palace. If I was regularly camping with another person, or another person + child or dog, I'd definitely lean towards the T4.

Haha, it's not the first time I've had bikers or ATVs show up in my camp, but they are usually just exploring and roll on through without stopping. These looked like motorcycle campers, and when they shut their bikes down, yep, I was a bit concerned. :-) That said, it was a good crew and while I'm usually seeking solitude, I actually wouldn't have minded sharing the site with them. Super nice people, I'd have been fine chatting with them all evening. :-)

Just curious if you have a list of the video gear you use now?
I don't have a published list or anything, but it's not complicated. I mainly shoot a Fuji X-Pro2, supplemented by a GoPro Hero7 Black and a DJI Spark. Rode VideoMicro on the X-Pro2 for audio. I can't recommend the X-Pro2 for video, it's simply the camera I had from my still photography days and I'm making it work. The Hero7 Black is fabulous, and the Spark is a very affordable way to grab some aerial shots.

So. I didn’t scroll through all the comments, and my field guide to tracks and scat is somewhere in the house. Fox scat pinches off like that, but that’s quite large for fox. My guess is wolf, maybe coyote. Ah. Ok you checked ~ cougar. Definitely carnivore like you thought.
Well, it certainly looks exactly like the photos I found of cougar scat. And I had one or two commenters confirm, yes, cougar. But other viewers disagreed, insisting that a cougar would bury its scat. We have a very small wolf population here, but LOTS of coyote...I didn't think of that. I know there are foxes as well, though I've literally never seen a fox in Oregon in my entire life, and this *seemed* too big to have come out of a fox. I'm gonna stick with cougar because it feels extra dangerous, LOL. :-)

This video made me realise how different America is from Europe - cougars, rattlesnakes, no cell service and empty landscapes for miles - it‘s still pretty much wild west out there, while here in Austria the worst thing that can happen is getting a ticket for driving on one of these back roads because most them are closed for motor vehicles, and in case you‘ve got an emergency, there will be two or three rescue helicopters ready to get you in 15-20 min (not kidding).
Haha, well, there are dangers, but with a bit of care and preparation, they are easy to avoid. Though I suppose part of what makes it compelling to get out there is that hint of danger. :-)
I think you would enjoy a Harbor Freight 20 X 60x 60 mm Spotting scope with tripod comes in a box with a carry case. The tripod is poor but on a regular tripod it works great for bringing things 5 miles away to 200' away. Check it out. I've enjoyed mine for last three years. Enjoying this vid, Thanks!

Oh I'm a Ninkasi fan...pretty tough to beat. For a couple of years I had an office right around the corner from their brewery, which is here in Eugene, and I could smell their brewing daily. Love the Tricerahops. Can't drink it all the time though.:-) Lagunitas makes some tasty brews too, and this one was on sale. :-)

I've done exactly that. Went hiking in an established area, great cell service, all by myself. I slipped and broke my leg. I don't recommend it. It sucks.
