No way! I jumped on here to watch you practice. So cool to see you tried out one of my tutorials, Eden! ☺️ You’re doing great on Day 1. Having experience from uke definitely helps starting out. Really all you need is chord memorization + transition practice. Hoping to see you continue on! Thank you so much for all of the wonderful things you said. 🤍

The strings are tougher than uke. Your fingers will get your callouses on the end and then it won’t be a sore at all. Remember you don’t have to push down super hard to actually fret the strings. Strings like elixirs also have coatings that make them a little more comfortable. You already know some strumming patterns from uke so they shouldn’t be hard to get used to at all for you.

You got a pot of the guitar chords right and you're sounding good, and the more you play , you'll build up calluses and you'll be able to play without your fingers hurting, I've been playing for 12 years now and I still feel like a beginner. Can't wait to see your progress, keep playing 👍

Fretting the chords on an acoustic guitar can be hard because of the high string action. If that's the problem for you then you can either remove the white bridge and file the bottom of it with an emery nail polishing stick and/or adjust the truss rod a bit to bring the strings closer to the fretboard. When I first started to learn guitar I got a yamaha fg700 acoustic guitar but the strings were high off the fretboard and the guitar was too big for my body so I didn't bother with it and instead got a fender stratocaster electric guitar. Then I got an another one and then another.... story of a musician :) It made it much easier to learn to play on the electric guitar for me.
After playing for couple of years on electrics I got my dusty yamaha acoustic guitar out of the case, put new guitar strings on it and now it is much easier to play despite the still high action which I will try to fix later. Acoustic guitars are great for rhythm playing and electrics are best for soloing. The electric guitar for soloing is just different and lot more musical than acoustic guitar. For an amplifier I got a fender pro jr. 3 tube amp that I love and it can be used for apartment playing but there are better options with master volume where you can crank up the gain on the amp and keep the volume low. I also use a distortion pedal for my pro jr. amp for soloing sometimes.
When making chords, your fingers might mute some strings and then the chord won't sound nice and that's ok. Overtime your fingers will become more perpendicular to the fretboard and you won't be muting adjacent strings. Also, barre chords are tough because your thumb muscle of your fretting hand might hurt and also because you don't know yet where to put your fingers to make the chord sound nice. Overtime you will find ideal finger position and will begin to relax your death grip on the neck. I can now play barre chords for hours without pain. My advice to everyone with respect to learning guitar is to just play the darn thing and everything will fall into place. You sisters are hilarious and I enjoyed watching your videos. Keep it up and good luck!

You can do it!! I started ukulele too, and then I started guitar three months ago. Lots of chord shapes on guitar are similar to ukulele. And I really think the ukulele basics make guitar journey so much easier! I'm three months down, still a newbie but not super beginner anymore and I can play a lot of songs now. Can't wait to see your progress! Oh I can't do barre chords still😩😩

Hi! I've been learning to play the guitar for several years and I have one piece of advice for you. Maybe someone has already written it here, but I'm not sure. I noticed that when you make a G chord, you put your ring finger on the high E string (1st string). It's right, but try to put your pinky there. I think it's more comfortable and easier. And if you would like to use that ring finger, you can put it on the third fret of string B (second string). It's still a G chord. There are many ways to play chords on the guitar. I also have one TH-cam channel that I could recommend. It's called GuitarZero2Hero. He teaches great and I think some of his tutorials are also suitable for beginners like you. Be sure to keep practicing, because the more you practice, the easier it will be. I'm already looking forward to your guitar covers 😊

Hi Eden! You're probably not going to see this because I'm late but I guess its worth a shot-
I've been playing guitar for a little over a year now and I promise it get's easier. If you practice consistently your finger tips will gain calluses and you won't feel any pain. Also for when you are fretting the guitar (prob the same for uke) you want to arch you finger if there is a buzzing sound
But you were doing really well for your first time in 3 years! You got thisss

Great video, Eden! I’ve been learning guitar for almost a year and you’re definitely better on your first day than I was😅
Anyway, here are some tips for easier transitioning:
    1) don’t lift all your fingers. For example, Am becomes C by moving only one finger, so look for common notes in chords
    2) I recommend playing G with 4 fingers. That way it will be easier to transition to D (one finger won’t need to move)
Good luck! I hope you’ll enjoy learning guitar

In January 2020 my company decided to send me to China. About 3 days into my business trip a guy who was responsible for safety came to us and said: "Please be calm. There is some new virus spreading across China, but there is also no need to worry it's not really a big deal". After this meeting, when I stopped screaming my company sent many people home to avoid this virus. When I arrived here in Poland I was so happy I didn't die that I decided to buy myself a guitar because learning how to play had been my dream since I was 15. At the beginning it was extremely difficult, but something changed after around 8 months and know I really enjoy every training.

Are you keeping up with practicing the guitar or even the ukelele? Like how much are you practicing a day? Curious

  • @mattRRgraham1996
    @mattRRgraham1996 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I know you haven't put out a video in a while so idk if you're keeping up with it, but in case you're curious, the reason your chords didn't sound like the ones in the video tutorial you were watching was because in the tutorial, she had a capo on the second fret so that way her "A minor" was really a "B minor", her "G major" was technically an "A major", her "C major" was now a "D major", etc.
If you think about the Capo as a tool that serves as like, the nut of your guitar but portable, it might make more sense. In the video, you're fretting a G major, C major, and at a few points an F major add 9. *BUT*, if you wanted to play an A major, D major, and G major add 9 with the exact same fingerings you used in the video but just shifted up two frets, the only way you can do that is with the capo because the capo serves as your new "nut" so everything gets shifted up two frets. So now, instead of your open strings being E A D G B E, they're F# B E A C# F#.
If you know what a capo is then I'm sorry I just mansplained all this to you, but yeah, I just thought I'd include that. Since the key of Radioactive is A major/F# minor (same key really), by capo-ing the second fret you can play all those open chords in key which is what she's doing in the tutorial.
I know your sister plays guitar, but guitar is also my main hobby and so I'm just happy to share any knowledge I have about it with others. Again, sorry if what I've mentioned was stuff you already knew, but if not I hope this helps! Guitar is fun! I hope you're enjoying it still but life's too short to do things you don't want to do so just keep on keeping on!

There's also a really good TH-cam teacher - Nena Shelby. She's really good and makes videos for beginners. She also has a play along channel.

I have been playing guitar for 30 years. Try this please. put a capo on the 5th fret!! it makes your guitar into a low g string uke. just don't play the 2 low strings. Play only the 4 higher strings. From there play ALL the same cord forms JUST LIKE THE UKE. Finger everything the same and play your favorite uke song. This will get you started faster.

when i first learned the D chord the first thing i said that it was like the ukulele G chord lol

You know, uke chords are THE SAME as guitar chords when playing on the first 4 strings of the guitar if you have a capo on the 5th fret of the guitar. Without any capo, everything is a fourth lower (or a fifth higher), e.g., a uke 'C' chord is a 'G' on the guitar. SO YOU ALREADY KNOW 2/3rds of the guitar (4 out of 6 strings).

uke is GCEA guitar 1st four strings are DGBE, same relation but 5 frets off. (uke fourth string 'G' is an octave higher, but it doesn't matter).

Learn to transpose uke chords up a fifth to guitar. C ->G, D->A, G->C
