I don't think she deserves sing this role because she has a dark and low tessitura... Alcina needs a high and light voice...

If you MAKE your voice darker, then its wrong... If you also lighten up your voice is also wrong. If you sing with your natural voice then you Do it correctly. The only one exception in singing are Wagner roles. You need a great tecnique to cut the orchestra with your voice. I think the chubby Lady sings good. I like her voice. For my Taste a little shrill... But thats her natural voice.
I am a fan of Verdi Operas. I dont like baroque orchestration.
