  • Tony Bird was born in Malawi but did much of his 1970s recording and writing in South Africa. Here's his song about the Cape (Cape Town and the Western Cape, South Africa) wherein he juxtaposes the beauty of the Cape against the cold reality of Apartheid South Africa.

I just leaned of Tony's death. I'm sad he has gone. Composer and singer of some of the prettiest songs I know. It was good knowing you Tony. Sweet memories of the folk festival circuit in the '70's. Your music shall not die, brother.

I used to do gigs with Tony in the 70s in London. He then got an album deal and moved to the USA so I lost contact. He was a unique voice and a great bloke so it's trajic he left us so soon.

Tony was a highly original artist with a unique voice. A fine songwriter, politically and environmentally acute, and a sensitive soul who is much missed. Oh, how we need voices like his!

I worked the box office at The Bitter End... Tony played... Joni came to see him... I got to meet her. Thank you sir. Rest in Peace

One of the more unique voices of the seventies folk era; “Wayward Daughters” from his first album is a brilliant, forgotten song.

Do you have any more tracks to upload from this album? I had it many years ago but lost it. It doesn't seem to have been released on cd. I would love to hear it all again. Thanks for this upload.
