- The Sony RX100 V is the latest compact camera in the sony lineup. Building on the success of the RX100 IV, Sony has added a redesigned stacked sensor and DRAM chip. The camera now features 315 phase-detection autofocus points and supports continuous high speed shooting at up to 24 frames per second.
The RX100 series has been one of the industry standard cameras for vlogging and on the go shooting.

I'm not surprised the laser pointer didn't work for them on that extremely busily-pattered carpet. It's hard to follow on such a background. Should have used a solid color floor.

You can use external audio recorder then synchronize in post production

Wow, I think your video was way better than the Canon 70d or 80d. It is way more crisp and focused faster. I am using a Sony HX80 and I have been looking into purchasing the Sony RX100 V for our vlogs and videos. I am completely sold now. Thank you for your video. Just subscribed! Wow! That auto focus is glorious! I just bought the Canon G7X mark ii and that's the one complaint I have is the auto focus. I also prefer the clarity of the Sony camera. Another reason to not trust the internet :(
Sony have done it again and brought out the RX100VA. It wasn’t even announced but it’s been out now for a few months. If you can get a loaner please compare it to the mk5. Many thanks!

I've got the original rx100 b and I like it overall for most stuff. Not being able to find a way to see myself when filming my You Tube videos is the biggest let down though. It doesn't like to do close ups on my knife reviews either, kind of doesn't seem to focus in. I picked up a Cannon HF700 for about half the price and it doe's amazing with close up auto focus and has a flip screen so two problems solved at half the price. The Sony still is used for really great photo's unlike the Cannon. Thx for the review, I thought this was on mine though and your's is slightly out of my budget. Car fixed or Sony RX100 V. I could have bought three of them last month for what I spent on car repairs, but like I said we all choose our battles. thx again for a good video.

A6500 reportedly has no overheating issues whatsoever.

What do you use to record your videos? They look so sharp!
I'm thinking about this camera. I would use this along with my future D810 or maybe A7r III (depending on the reviews) as a back up. There are many times when I'm out and I didn't haul my D5200 with. There has been many times where I have been out and didn't plan on taking photos where I saw a shot. My iPhone is great for family pics but doesn't make up for the Nikon in landscape.
Your lighting is amazing! Your face looks superb on the rx100 V. Can you show us equipment you use and your editing skills?
Also what do you think of the new VI?

It would be nice to see a direct comparison between the Sony RX 100 mark V and the Canon Powershot G5X because I wanted to buy one of these two cameras and don't know, which one is the more versatile.

IMHO I thought the best feature of this camera was the 1080p video at 1000FPS, not sure why you didn't mention this ?

Good video, thanks. Just a question. In Manual, when I select Flexible spot (to move my focus around) then Shutter Speed is disabled. Apparently, I have not full manual control: Apertures, Shutter Speed, focus, etc. Is it because I don't know how to make work or a camera limitation? Thanks. :)

I have a few beginner questions if I may. Does it shoot raw? Does it have manual mode? Does it have multiple lenses that I can buy for it (i.e is the lens replaceable or fixed)?
yes, yes and no. for interchangeable lenses you would have to get a mirrorless camera or a dslr

well, over-heating issue is a turn off feature for me to purchase this compact camera, rather than g7x mii
help! im looking for my first RX100... i've watched several reviews already... first Im considering mark III but when I saw that mark V has phase detection I was like whoa! currently I have A6000 and HX90V. during my Italy trip, I was using more my HX90v... I guess i like the pocketability... so III vs V? i'm not much of a video person... what say you? O:-)
For someone relatively new to cameras, would it really be worth it to buy the Mark V as opposed to say the Mark II or III? Would the Fujifilm x70 be a viable option as my only camera, or would it not be versatile enough? Thanks!
I just got this camera and the auto focus seems really slow. It is set to defualt auto settings out of the box. What settings get it to focus as fast as it does in your video?

I love my G7X M II but I shoot video every day and that slow motion capacity could really add pop to some of my videos despite the price. So far just have redundant G7x.

The touch screen will be available on the RX100 VI next month. LOL! Just kidding.
No one knows it better than me (6300 user)! For sony, we all just need to wait until there is a model that perfectly meet our needs, never rush in to buying new models.
I wonder if there is anything replacing the a6000 the 6300 and 6500 seem to be a lot more money

You're filming this video with that little RX100 V (or IV)???? Dammit, it looks sharper than any Red or Arri cameras....
Yet another almost there camera! - if only it cost a little more but had a newer processor that didn't overheat and a touchscreen, it would be near perfect for a carry around Vlog+point-and-shoot camera.

Thanks for a good review ..... on the strength of this, I have upgraded from RX100M2 to M5.
Indeed, the initial thought is a touch screen would good, but as I discovered with my A6500 - I had turn this function off ... as my nose (not a big item) kept hitting the ‘live’ screen.
However, what would have been very useful is a ‘standard but multifunctional’ hot-shoe! Thus enabling photographers recording sound with 4K or HD1080p videos are able to use several accessories. To be frank, a low power built-in flash is next to useless!
Having said this ..... RX100V is my constant companion! Excellent image quality, albeit a 1-inch sensor, but thanks to a top-notch Zeiss lens!
For those asking about the audio in this video, I bet he used and external mic y recorder.
compared to a canon g7x ii, is the image quality difference big enough to justify the high price and lack of touch screen?
2 years later and I really divided between getting a mark V or a mark VI now in mid 2019. I dont need the 70-200mm range but I do like the touch focus, the my menus and the automatic popup view finder in the mark VI... However I do like the F1.8 and better macro from the mark V... It is tough...

i just ordered a *II* with some damage for a good price from ebay ... so ... maybe the *V* in some years?
I have not figured out how to get the Canon G7X II to stay focused, it's a total disaster. Maybe look at Sony next? In your video you seem to have none of Canon's autofocus problems
All about that burst!!! I'm not a big videographer BUT the biggest reason I got the RX 100V was the insanely fast 24fps burst mode! Can't wait to go to my first basketball or baseball game and really test that burst and AF speed to its full potential!

Hei from Norway! Its Nice camera this Rx100. I bouth the Rx100 first one and was happy With that. I have many other camera to. When I se this New Rx100 V I think maby to sell some of my other camera and bay this one. Because Its littel enough to get Down in jeans and take good Picture and film In 4K. I was on consert fore a week ago and I film near all With my Sony Rx100 camera Jean Michell Jarre It was. Look on my channel if you want. And today I was on mountain With Phantom 4 and got Nice film In -18 could. Thanks fore posting. It was Nice to se and hear about It.
Im getting the A6500 next :) Sony are too fast, I just got the 1gen A6000 like 2 years ago. Then A6300 less than 6 months ago. I bet RX100 VI will be out by March of 2017. Good review mate!
How would you compare this camera with Canon G7X mark II? I've heard so much rave reviews about the Canon(minus the autofocus speed)...
Is this the on-board audio from both RX cameras??? Or did you use an external mic? If this is the in-camera mic, the quality is EXCELLENT and I don't think it there would be a problem shooting short informal interviews with this camera. Nice work on the first impressions review either way. GREAT CHANNEL!!!
The Lumix LX 10 is very good too and cheaper. The aperture is 1.4f so maybe better in low light situation. Did you think about choosing the lumix and why did you make this choice. I have the Lumix LX 7 and I use a lot in my videos. I am thinking upgrading it but I am not sure if the LX 10 is good as the LX7 (except the 1" sensor witch is better for sure).

I have a question for you not sure if you would know. I met some one that was using the rx 100 iv for under water photography.
and i was blown away buy the pictures it was taking. Now i think the rx100 iv is 2015 model and the rx100v is the 2016 model is this correct and which one would you recommend. or if you think there's an better camera to use for under water photography i would like to hear your opinion. thanks so much Rick
