You may be on to something!
I tend to think it is a manifestation of our sexual and social insecurities. The long neck many witnesses report is phallic in nature and represents our insecurities of masculinity or manhood - the eternal desire that something large and majestic of the past is still roaming this earth. Doc Shiel's muppet photo is an exemplary example of this projection.
On the other hand, the sightings of large humps represent maternity - the dark, uncertain thoughts we have of our origins, harboured in a collective womb.

Karl Smallwood (on ‘Factfiend’ here on TH-cam) managed to track down the entire story; basically, a guy who was investing a Nessie sighting for a newspaper was fired when we handed them an article that basically proved said paper’s months-long quest to find the thing was entirely based in misinformation, so he paid a friend, the Gynocologyst, to take the picture of the toy submarine, just to troll the paper. Instead of it going as planned, the paper re-hired the guy to investigate, so the guy just kept trolling them.

Please put the megalodon conspiracy to rest. I'm sick of people going "well we've only explored 5% of the whole ocean so it could be in the deepest parts" what I'm sick of saying is that it's not 5% of the whole ocean hasn't been explored, it's 5% of the ocean floor has been explored. And megalodon wasn't likely capable of incredible deep sea diving, it was a surface creature who ate whales

    • @Weirdanimalboy

I suppose that is part of the reason we obsess over cryptids- the are so fantastically terrifying that we feel joy over the unknown and learning about it, as much as a farce it could be it is interestig to think of how such a creature could exist... I could also just say I am a giant dork.. But either way- keep up the good work! That being said even as a kid i knew most of those weren't right. The Muppet was too perfect for an unconfirmed creature, the gargoyle was too gnarled to be anything, surgeons i knew was fake, ect. The only one I couldn't explain was the Flipper. And now since you have i can safely say there's not even really a maybe with it anymore

      @sackboyi4631 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

My friend, I know what you feel, but I respectfully think you are wrong. See, the goal of this video is to show how the supposed evidence of the monster is wrong, but this is not enough to disprove its existence.
There are many implications to the way we understand the legend by proving wrong the evidence, but the most important of them are those that help us separate what is real and what is just a product of our culture. You see, even if there are real sightings of a monster, culture shapes images that could be radically different. In other words, thinking critically about the evidence of the legend helps us to understand what is just a product of culture and prevents us from chasing an illusion. The legend is still out there, and maybe, just maybe, something really inhabits the lake, but it is not like we thougth.

in 1983, my parents and I visited Loch Ness. I was a year old baby and have no memory, but here's what I was told. We are Koreans and my father was a diplomat. He took few days off work to go on a road trip and while traveling Scotland, decided to make a visit to Loch Ness. It was evening, and they had good time enjoying the view, but had not booked any lodging. To save money, my parents decided to sleep at car over the night, parked next to Loch Ness. Both my parents had heard stories of Loch Ness Monster, but they don't beileve in any cryptids, or any other supernatural stuff and were not concerned. That night however, they sensed something moving near the car, but were too tired to be bothered. The next day they discovered that some patches of grass not far to where car was parked were pressed as if a heavy object had been dragged over it. My parents belive to this day, someone probably moved a boat at night, as strange as it sounds, but there you go

I watched a Lochness monster documentary once I've been unable to find since. But they did this experiment where they got a bit of pipe and attached it to a buoy underwater, so it bobbed up and down vertically. They deployed it at Lochness in front of this crowd and also at a place down river. The next town over or something I cant remember. They then asked the witnesses to draw what they saw. Everyone at the other town drew a pipe. Almost everyone at lochness drew a long necked creature , some even drew humps. Its all in the mind.

I would't be so clear to say that the Gray photo is a swan. The most popular explanation is it's a labrador retriever fetching a stick, although the unretouched versions of the photo don't show a puppydog face very clearly at all. Another interpretation by Roland Watson and Steven Plambeck is that the monster's head is on the right side and is similar to that of an eel.

One of the more compelling arguments, I always thought anyway, re: the first image, is that it was circus elephants taking a break in the Loch - travelling circuses were common in the 30s and there are a number of accounts of them seen swimming - the gynaecologist most probably saw one and took a picture - only afterwards realizing it looked so serpent-like and, as you say, like the sauropods from King Kong, that he thought it newsworthy. But the curvature of the neck certainly resembles an elephant's trunk. Yours, E x

  • @c-puff

I'm commenting on videos from 3 years ago again. Just a thought/request/question; There's a show on Netflix entirely focused on debunking hoaxes (most of them not animal related) but they had an episode on the Loch Ness Monster, in which someone proposed that a perfect explanation would be that the sightings of the enormous monstrous creature, from shape to colouring, could in fact be catfish. Apparently not native to the loch, sports hunters introduced the catfish to the loch for fishing purposes. Fast forward about 50 years and suddenly eye witness accounts of a monster in the lake start showing up. Catfish can live up to 60 years ad the Wels Catfish (native to the Baltic, Black and Caspian seas and often introduced to Western Europe as a sport fish) can easily grow up to 5 meters.
I have not seen ANY other cryptozoology program or book even MENTION this theory but it is without a doubt the most convincing and logically sound explanation to the Loch Ness monster I have EVER heard, and I would absolutely love to hear if you have any opinions on this, either for or against the theory as I'd like to hear someone talk about this beyond a made-for-Netflix documentary as, even when debunking things, tv shows tend to be less than reliable when it comes to facts, preferring sensationalizing things for the show's agenda.

An interesting fact about Dinsdale's film that wasn't covered in this video, he also claimed that the monster was wearing a pink cap.

I live along Okanagan Lake. I saw one video that was supposed to be Ogopogo that was obviously a beaver. This is what happens when city council offers a $1M reward for proof of it.

Interesting, I'm just a little unsure of your sources. With all due respect, my understanding of the first image is that there was a deathbed confession, where he (said gyno guy) confessed to actually using a teapot. Then played about with angles and distance to make it look authentic, that is what I read a number of years ago.

Do you have a source on your informations at 9:35 on the 1975 Rhine photo? I had never heard this anywhere before and I can't find a source for your affirmations of it being 50cm longs or part of the lake floor in the articles in your description.

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply! I will have to check it out. I've read a lot about this underwater body picture as it struck me as the most convincing one ever taken. Upon further investigation, I found something that suggests the objections to it you found from the book you quoted are not indisputable : lochnessmystery.blogspot.com/2017/11/follow-up-to-1975-underwater-photos.html

I'm not sure if I've found any yet. I long for the day I actually find a cryptid with compelling evidence to support its existence. From all the one's I'm aware of I can't think of any that can't just be explained via known phenomena

    that's pretty obvious.
A: those are simply light shadows, caused by the camera, due to particles that aren't on the pic, shading the lens.
what happens is that specks of dust create shadows, which are 3D, due to dust being partly see-through.
B: water shadows cause by the water, having a bend in its angle, due to natural motion (wind and other natural elements). if there's a stripe of water that is directed away from the sun, it gets shaded.

    Great video!
I think in addition to the land sighting, King Kong also influenced the swan necked sightings, as did Charles Knight's art of sauropods and plesiosaurs.
Great breakdown. I used to be a believer in Nessie thanks to these photos and no critical thinking skills :)
Hoping for more cryptids: how about some mammals like Sasquatch?

I plan on doing Bigfoot in the future ;)
