This song is about a soldier dying on the battlefield thanking his brothers in arms for not deserting him in his last few moments. He knows he will live in the low lands because that is where he will be buried. All in all, I have a hard time reconciling the deep sorrow this song, this guitar conveys to me and your reaction to it.
This song is from the perspective of a dying soldier saying goodbye to his comrades. He will never make it home from the mountains to the lowlands. Mark Knopfler is a guitarists guitar player and one of the best story driven songwriters ever. Dire straits are even better live try out sultans of swing and telegraph road from the alchemy live album. Glad you enjoyed my favourite band.
Every now and again i come back to this song even though it breaks my heart. Music brings us all together. Politicians and world leaders should be forced to listen to it regularly.😢
lost the ability to cry after first sitting at my mothers deathbed and then my my fathers. and i can understand that with the guitar doing the crying for you.
Check out the animated version. It is pure art. Brilliant song. The lines that gets me the most: ‘you did not desert me, my brothers in arms’ & ‘we are fools to make war on our brothers in arms’ 😢 Your dog is so sweet!
I was probably already older than you are now when this album was released (yes, I am only about 5 minutes younger than dirt). Mark Knopfler made the then-revolutionary decision to release only on CD without also releasing on vinyl. That decision was responsible for hundreds of thousands or millions of CD player sales (including me!). I'd already seen Dire Straits live once and no way was I going to miss out on their latest album. I've always thought the lyrics in this song are the words of the heart and the guitar is the song of the soul. There's no single word in English to express the emotion, although there is one in Welsh: hiraedd. Hiraedd meaning a deep, tormented longing for something you know you will never see but yearn after with all your heart; homesickness times a million. We are indeed fools to make war on our brothers in arms.
Friends of mine look at me like i lost my mind coz i am heavily into UK Drill and then i throw this on its like wtf😂😂....i grew up to all there albums being played by my parents👌 Mark's talent on guitar is mind blowing and always gives me goosebumps💯🤟
Nice reaction bro but it's such a shame you didn't watch the animated version. The visuals to it add SO much to the song....it's a different experience.
@@Bklynreau perhaps try the live version from the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert held at Wembley Stadium in 1988, which Dire Straits headlined. It's the most emotional performance of this song the singer/songwriter/guitarist/all-round musical genius has ever given. Before it begins he says 4 words that still resonate 35 years later: "One humanity. One justice."
Mark is a Geordie boy from just down the road from me, working class areas sent a lot of of the soldiers there, a good number never came back. People who have suffered hard things in growing up make good soldiers. He wrote a song that echoes with the pride of his people.
7:03 l lost my shit when you picked uo that little doggie. Would love to share a couple of a cold ones with you and listen to something similar to this . Cheers from finland!
Alright bro that's pretty funny😂😂😂 can't we all just get along I'm pretty old school bro I got grandkids I just thought it was funny that you drop that can we all just get along😅😅😅 but seriously I hope we all can😢😢😢❤❤❤ sorry about all the emojis I can't use my hands any more so even though I hate emojis sometimes it's easier than typing you're a white brother and Belize peace bro
This Song is About Vietnam veterans and post-traumatic stress they have a lot of good music there's another song called right across the river which is about a river boat Patrol unit that's a good one check it out yes? First time on your channel peace brother
The song is about all combatants & veterans ,who have & take part in wars & conflicts . It was actually written after the Falklands war or conflict in 1982 between the U.K. & Argentina in the South Atlantic . It’s about the futility of war & conflict , & the fact that those that bear arms be they on the same side or the opposing side , share a common bond as Brothers in arms .
There is a very beautiful song Your Latest Trick. While having a break in the mid of working day me and my colleagues used to go to the "BBKing" cafe with music automat and listened to Dire Straits. The most beloved were Brothers In Arms and Latest Trick.
Do you know what it’s fine sitting there going on about this song but when you lose your friends in a place you don’t know or really care about it’s so different
Hi I have a free Advice. Look I am not here to complain or cause trouble. No. And I guess you could have figure it out by yourself. And I apologize beforehand, if I sounded like a Teacher, or a wiseacre, if I sound like a smartass, I am not. I am just trying to help. Only a free Tip: Maybe... Perhaps... you can react to the original Video without showing it. i know it's common that when you make a reaction you show the Video on a Picture in Picture. But if TH-cam keeps telling you that you violate Copyright, maybe you then just have to react to the Music only. Or: You show a Symbol Photo. In Place of the Video you show Pictures. Like... screenshots. Do not show the whole Video but make Screenshots and show them. Or you do show the Video, but you lay over a layer with.... a Picture. Some other TH-camrs make a new Layer with a transparent Picture over the Video. The Picture could be a Prohibition Sign, or a TH-cam sign, or whatever... or the Name of the Band as a Big Sign. Something similar like that. Maybe you will get away with it, when you make a transparent Picture over the actual Video you review. Or you review the Original Video without showing it at all, the Video, but instead just show another Video. Of course a Video of this Song... but there are other Versions out there. Videos of this Song, but like Lyric Videos or Videos of this Song but with a Picture only, like the Video you used. So maybe, perhaps next Time review the actual Video but do not show it but... show something else instead. Or show the Video but with a new Layer over it. Maybe that will help. Or show part of it, not the full Video, but only Parts of it and the other Parts are either black or Pictures or whatever. Maybe I am too nitpicking. Maybe this does not really matter. And yes I know, this is a first world Problem. There are other more important Things than that. I know. I just notices and wanted to give advice on how you could get away with it. I am not saying it will work, but it might work. Maybe you just have to try. Anyway, good Luck and keep on the Good work. And if you are reading it, thanks for reading. So thank you. Hope there are no hard feelings, this was just a free advice and not a rant. THANKS. Bye.
If you have ever been in a combat this song hits you right in the heart.
Salute to all my brothers in arms from all over the world
So right
no more war!
Also, in a broader sense this song is about the folly of brothers (humans) going to war against eachother.
This song is from the perspective of a dying soldier saying goodbye to his comrades. He will never make it home from the mountains to the lowlands.

Wouldn't make a blind bit of difference, unfortunately.......they're all sociopaths.
you are right on!
for those who cannot cry....his guitar does it for you😢

The song is about the Falklands war between the UK and Argentina.1982.
So many guitar players can cause the instrument to laugh or sing or cry. It's not often you hear a guitar mourn.
Check out the animated version. It is pure art. Brilliant song. The lines that gets me the most: ‘you did not desert me, my brothers in arms’ & ‘we are fools to make war on our brothers in arms’ 😢 Your dog is so sweet!
yea i did it was good... thank u shes running around here some were
He saying he will now reside in 'these mist covered mountains' (because he is dying), even though he is from the lowlands and always will be.
We are all brothers in arms 👊👊
That guitar always makes me miss someone i don't even know.
Masterpiece 🔥
Watch the Miami Vice episode when this track appears. It’s where I heard it first way back then (?80’s)…. Absolutely stunning
Someday he hopes to come back to the mist covered mountains, he is at war with his brothers. So nice to see it hit you for the first time.
“ We’re fools to make war “
“On our Brothers in Arms” such a great closing line to an even greater album!!!
Music is universal it recognizes nothing but your ears and soul.
facts!

Omg your doggie is sooo adorable! It’s hard not to cry to this one. Very beautiful. Now watch the animation video.

Some powerful shit on war and comradeship. It’s like you thought at the beginning.

@@Bklynreau aww shit dude :/
Well if you've got a spare 5-6 minutes, you should check it out for yourself. That version hits so much harder.
The song speaks for it's self - No animation required!

you gotta respect the fallen for fighting for our freedom and peace.
Mark Knopflers guitar and voice mesh perfectly ❤
Love your reaction. I’m from that generation and was blessed with these faboulastic muscians. Thanks for Sharing 🙌🏻
u welcome!
As has been said elsewhere, this song was inspired by the Falkland's Conflict between UK and Argentina.
Mark is a Geordie boy from just down the road from me, working class areas sent a lot of of the soldiers there, a good number never came back. People who have suffered hard things in growing up make good soldiers. He wrote a song that echoes with the pride of his people.
A song about a wounded soldier who's dying while surrounded by his brothers.
I like the video animation
Not about the Falklands as widely misconceived. Inspired by them maybe but about the futility of all wars. The official video has scenes from WW1.
Mark has repeatedly said it was inspired by the Falklands conflict, rumours are that he knew 1 of the soldiers who died
I wish you could have watched the amazing video which goes with this song. It would explain everything to you.
This song had been released for about 37 years before you had heard it, or reacted to it? Where have you been all your life?
This song breaks me everytime I hear it

Thanks for that! lol
Your dog is gorgeous.
TY!
Even the dawg liked it.
You can feel the pain in the guitar
Try Mark Knopfler's "If This is Goodbye" see if you can work ouy what that's about.
WW1 Battle of the somme
It's the UK war with Argentina folklands
this about England Vs. Argentina. Maldivas war
Falklands war, Malvinas are in Chile

Great song, reaction starts stupid. Off we go ...
