they oversold 1000's of tickets and the crowd got impatience that they could not go in.
Law enforcement was absent and showed up when the mayhem started due to FIFA and Conmebol incompetence. They failed to set up the security perimeter like they usually do for concerts and other sporting events.

I'm Colombian living in the USA and I'm ashamed of my fellow Colombians behaving in such way. They do the same thing in Colombia when there's a soccer game and almost every time ends in tragedy. Something about the culture surrounding soccer when it comes to the Latin culture needs to change. It's embarrassing.

As a Brazilian, I can say that this is something common in South America. People go to the stadium with or without a ticket, trying any chance to get in. Every game is like this. Welcome to the Latin American adventure.
I’m Argentinian and I have never seen anything like this. No control whatsoever. The entire organization very chaotic. The security wasn’t enough. Tickets outside were selling anywhere from $4500 to $10000. Shame on you FIFA. That’s what happens when it’s all about the bottom line.

Plus this was the organization fault, the game was about to start and they wouldn't let anyone in, the stadium was empty. Who is gonna refund them for a $1000 ticket? What were they supposed to do? If it was all about the border, this would have happened in 2016 but it didn't.

@@davidgpz the gates were opened at 5pm. I work security there. They were stampeding and injured employees so we had to shut it down. To try and control. Every time we opened the gates back up they would have to get closed again because the people kept rushing through. They eventually broke the gates and rushed in over at my gate and kids, adults, employees were getting knocked down. I now have a dislocated shoulder. There was no controlling them. It started from people who didn’t have tickets. They were crowding and blocked actual ticket holders.

This has nothing to do with the border moron, when the game was supposed to start, the stadium was empty, if they had organized everything like they did in 2016, this would not have happened. You do realize the majority of fans don't even live in America nor do they want to. While I do not agree with their actions, it was the only way to delay the game. If you spend $1000 for a game or concert you are getting in whether organizers screw up or not.

It really sucks to watch the country of my birth fall apart by people who do not appreciate it. I grew up in the 1990s, and what a world apart that was compared to now. Back then, we were all Americans and no one felt poor even if that was the case. Because there was a middle class, and people still appreciated working hard and earning their way. The American middle class has since eroded in favor of cheap South and Central American labor. Too bad, this country used to be a great country.

I have worked for a certain security company that does security in that very same stadium and every time that there is a event with Latin people the biggest problems happen hardly ever any problems when Miami dolphins play or some other events happened there but if it's a Latin event it's always an issue

Imagine every country had football league and every four years the best 32 teams of the world had to compete in one tournament to see who is the best in the world. There's no comparison with a superbowl or world series this are American tournaments. Soccer gets all crazy because of the people's patriotism. Can you imagine the super bowl winner going to a worldwide tournament making to the final and having to play against Russia or China? There will be so much expectation and patriotism involved that people could go crazy. That's why things like this happen at soccer games only

A representative of the major has spoken an he mentioned the factors that lead to this situation, excessive heat, police inside the stadium and no outside, no security rings, to check for tickets, weapons and to provide access to the arena, long waiting hours, confusion, crazy fan trying to enter without a ticket, people with tickets who worry they may not be able to enter, and finally mass panic.
Even security pushing reporters OUT, a disaster.
This is proof not all Latin American countries are culturally the same…Colombians are the Venezuelans of the 90s and 2000s
America needs to stop hosting soccer or any sport where the fans can’t control themselves. Security needs to be up to the task. No cutting corners.
What should be done is for the players be in stadium playing without their fans, if you want to watch the game pay per view if you're a fanatic. Maybe they will consider,and they should respect their home team, hope the team will send a message.
