1974 Hitachi TRQ-341 Twin-Motor Type II Cassette Recorder

Hitachi went all out on this small Monaural cassette Recorder in 1974: Twin motors - one with a governor for the capstan/flywheel and one without a governor for the FF/Rew functions. It also had CrO2 capabilities! AC bias and erase, of course. It sounds pretty good except for motor noise on the condenser microphone.

I've literally just come home with one of these from a car boot. Mine has a cover though, it's not wood grain and it has something in a bag attached to the side.
It's a beautiful machine xx
Edit to add, the thing on the side in the bag is the strap. It works perfectly, except the eject. Have to manually open with my fingers and it doesn't stay up

xmas 1973 i got this, it had a mic on a lead (1.57) that plugged into it on the side, spent ages taping off the radion setting the microphone between two cushions but someone would always walk in the room, shout or close a door when i was taping the top 20.

Beautiful cassette-recorder Hitachi trq-341 very ingenious!! this is engineering,I say this because I own it too, this cassette deck with two motors is really ingenious.

What a lovely old piece of kit and fortunate that the belt is still OK. The PCB looks like a hand-taped layout, proper old school technology. These were expensive back in the day, any kids who got one for Christmas had rich parents.

Very nice recorder! I have the earlier version without the CrO2/Normal switch. Mine had lost the chrome cover on the ejector door, and the eject button was a gonner. I just removed the door. The unit has good quality, yet resides in Arkansas, so who knows when I will do a video on it...

¿Do you know if is it AC Bias?.
I love the "Normal / CrO2" selector in the line between the dech and the keys, at the top of the apparatus. So few "recording bananas" products of the 70s have the "CrO2" tape capability!!. If I don't say that today's cassette players/recorders that may find in chinesse stores, NONE OF THAT are AC bias, and "CrO2", and even less, the "CrO2 / Metal" capability

While the Cr02 capability makes this unit a collector item, I can't help wondering what kind of idiot would use chrome tapes for dictation, specially those days, when they were still a bit of a novelty, and the price difference over ferric tapes must have been quite bigger than in the 80's/90's.
