This is another great video. And yes, it is absolutely critical to ensure that you do a TESOL (or similar) certificate that includes an observed and assessed teaching practicum with ‘real’ ESL students. It is good advice to be wary of any courses that do not include this or tell you it is not needed. ESL schools are always looking for experienced teachers or teachers who have completed an assessed teaching practicum. You don’t want to be left in a situation where you have a certificate but no actual teaching experience and so, you need to be sure this is included in your TESOL training. This does not mean you have to find and complete an in person TESOL course however, as that is not always practical and since 2020 no longer necessary. We have contacts with job providers and ESL schools facilitating all of our TESOL course students with real online classroom practicum observed and assessed.

Hi grace! I really love this series btw... I am a high school student with dreams of being a midwife, but I have a passion for culture and language and really want to travel. Being an esl teacher would allow me to do that, but I have no idea how long I want to be abroad. Therefore, I'm not sure what I should major in (nursing or education). On one hand if I get a degree in nursing I can go back to school to be a midwife easier, but on the other hand, I might travel for 10-15 years and want a more education based background. I'm totally confused and all I know is I would like to do both (even though I'm not sure it's possible.)

Hello Grace. I found very helpful your video. I am considering the idea of becoming an ESL Teacher; although I've never taught English I've had experience as a teacher, teaching Chemistry. However, I don't feel myself fluent enough yet; let's say about 85% of fluency as it were. So, what would you recomend me to do? Master my English before I take the Cambridge Celta course or get on with it whenever I can? I hope to hear your thoughts about it. Thanks.

Thks for sharing your thoughts. I wonder if the Celta Cambridge certificate would also suit teachers who intend to teach young learners as well. If it doesn't which course could I apply for?

Hi & thank you for the upbeat and inspiring videos! Do you have any advice for a retired military guy who's lining himself up to move to & teach in Prague next year? Best to you, RH

Thank you so much! Prague would be amazing and there are a lot of ESL jobs there! I think it would be easier to get work once you are there since there would be significant competition, as opposed to getting one beforehand. And, of course, taking an ESL course will help a lot!

Thank you for your video, I found it not only helpful but empowering when in doubt. I'm new to your channel so hello from Australia! Your video on ESL games was so good!
I guess I just have one burning question---being in the ESL field already, is the demand for ESL teachers in Vietnam still high or is it waning? I'm referring to the project 2020 I believe it's called. I've been watching a lot of videos of ESL teachers in Vietnam from 3-5 years ago so I've been having difficulty gauging the extent what they're saying is still accurate.
    Thanks!

Hi Claire! Thanks so much for the kind comment and I'm so glad you are finding the videos helpful! From what I understand there is still plenty of demand for teachers in Vietnam. I know of a number of friends who have worked there and loved it. I also see job posts for Vietnam all the time.

Thanks Grace, that's re-assuring. Japan would be my first choice to teach but I'm also considering Vietnam because of high demand. That said, your blog post about beginner countries put a lot things I hadn't thought about in perspective so... we'll see. By the way your CELTA breakdown is second-to-none! It really helped clarify a lot of questions and uncertainties I haven't found elsewhere so far. Many thanks!

Are ESL classes all about class management and planning? Do the actually show you how to teach English as a second language?

Hi Grace, I'm wondering whether you think it would be useful to get a certificate from Trinity or Cambridge if your goal is to teach ESL domestically and not abroad. I live in NYC and imagine the demand for ESL teachers is high here given the large immigrant community.

    Hi Grace,
I didn't know where to ask you a question so I thought I'd try doing it in this Comment section. You mentioned that it might be more difficult to get a job if one had an on-line ESL certificate because they would have no teching experience. Well, what if a person was able to get a not-so-gret job with the on-line certificate and then, once having worked in that job, applied for a better job? They would then have some teching experience. Do you think they could get a better job then, once thay had classroom teaching experience? Thank you
    ouD

I’m almost finished TESOL, then I'll get an ESL endorsement. I'm so excited to teach my own class, so far I've been working as an aide in the ELD program. What else do you recommend me to do?

Hi Grace! Now I'm a 24 yo HR professional in Italy with innate passion (and previous experience) for teaching. First of all, do you recommend switching career at this stage and which course would you suggest I take? Thanks

    • @thegracecass
      @thegracecass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I switched at 23 so I think so! I would look into any esl courses available in your area for starters, I bet Italy has a lot. I took mine through International Teaching house, so you could google them and see if they have any courses in your area.

I didn't find that helpful at all. You only mentioned 2 courses. Not everyone wants the same thing as you noted. Some of us have years of experience teaching and only need the certificate to get in the door. What about that? What about if we only want to teach one at a time online from home. You didn't talk about that. There are hundreds of jobs online, hundreds.
