In India capturing and taming elephants are legally restricted, with exception of elephants that raid human settlements frequently, and destroy properties and produces of human could be captured, and put to undergo rehabilitation and release back to wild where the environment has carrying capacity for such released animals, or can be recaptured if they still continue raiding human settlements. Such animals are either kept in captivity centres, or if the behavior of the elephant is fitting to be made as a trained enforcer elephants then they are trained so. These enforcer elephants are tamed such away it get used to humans at the same time they are retained semi wild. Which means the animal has a handler and they are fed with suppliments, medicines, and allowed to roam free in wild, engage with wild herds, but they are brought back to bases every morning for routine washing and food ration. These enforcers are often taken to conflict areas to scare away wild elephants that breach villages and farms, or to assist wild life wardens to capture rogue wild elephants if they have formed a habit of raiding human settlements. What you see here is one of such centres with such elephants being trained to be enforcers. Its a routine to get used to humans, human sound, sticks (commands are later given by haptic senses using sticks as well alongside verbal). Yes it is not the most kind way, but human also deserves life in this planet. It is not my or yours fault that we are born into overpopulated world, as we had no choice. If there were no civil laws, humans would have taken law to their hands and would have killed these majestic animals for their safety.
