My first exposure to the tripod trilogy was reading it at lunchtime in my school library when I was 12-13 along with things like HG Wells, Heinlein, Asimov. I have never watched the TV serious but might do now. I am and always have been a SCI-FI nut. Love it.
It was really nice for me to listen to your story and updates about the "tripods". I was born in 1978 and as an adult had vaguely remembered that quirky eerie "tripods" show, until at some point I just turned to the web to watch it again, this time in the proper order. Even with the now outdated special effects, and acting which was not always up to the standards possible in British TV and cinema, I enjoyed the story and the drama. Like you, I remember my disappointment reaching the end of season 2 just to discover there is no, and there will be no season 3.... I now think about trying to get my hands on the books. Seeing a diorama or vignette with the tripods would be very nice... Keep up the good work!
Hi Jason, thanks for another entertaining Table Talk. Quite a story with The Tripods, looking forward to this build - I expect it will be a show of scratch building - not watched the series myself, but I did read Wells' novel and like Sci-fi a lot. I am also looking forward to review of Gaahleri's compressor, I want to invest in one soon and they have few of different types available, but the smaller the better for me. Deal with tool manufacturer - that's a news, thanks for your efforts for the community Jason, I will certainly use the discount. Tempo looks really nice, I will try to paint my figure this week using few tips from your videos. Have a great day, Dom
Hi Jason, great table talk. Re the Jon Pertwee Doctor Who era, guessing that it's around 1973, as you mentioned seeing the filming of the story, The Daemons. I also remember tripods being on after the news on a Saturday afternoon before the Generation Game.
Hi Jason, we're obviously about the same age and I watched Blakes 7 , Dr Who and Space 1999 etc and was a massive fan in the 70's and 80's. Blakes 7 really caught my imagination and loved every episode. I have to say though that the Tripods completely passed me by. I was not aware of it until I started buying magazines in the late 80's. There was one called TV Zone that I saw it mentioned in but I had no recollection of seeing it on the telly. Maybe I thought it was another War of the Worlds so avoided it? Looking forward to the Eagle build.
Hi Jason, Another great Table Talk. As always, you have some great stuff planned. I had heard of Tripods, but not really watched much of it. I was a big Star Trek fan, original series, in the 70's. I didn't much watch the next generation stuff though. Of course, I read War Of The Worlds. I'll be looking forward to all that has been planned for December. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
War of the Worlds for me was the 1953 movie which I saw on tv in the 1970's. And that has no tripods. Battlestar Galactica is the only science fiction tv series I remember following.
Great table talk and a chance to reminisce about 70's and 80's Sci-fi. I have audible and the tripod books are available, it's a word for word reading. You get 1 book a month for your subscription and I have 3 credits in bag. I love reading but I spend over an hour a day in the car and that is my book time.
Jason, i was a similar age to you and a huge fan of the Tripods, i also have the DVD set and didnt know about the books until lockdown. Would be great if the BBC coukd release the computer model files and allow someone to produce acurate model kits. Also a dan of Gaahleri products, seems they have a big push on, Ilike the look of the pens and will be great for doing engine parts and screws on small ships. so will drop by and see what they have
Loved this table talk Jason. I was born in the early sixties so I remember the shows from Jerry Anderson including UFO. Earliest Dr who I remember was Patrick Troughton. But agree Tom Baker was the difining Dr who Character of all of them. I loved the models and so wanted to be a sci fi model maker for film and TV, alas it was not meant to be. Liberator was an awesome looking ship in my top ten sci fi spaceships of all time. Read the Tripod books in the 70's found them in the school library was so excited when I heard they were doing a TV series. Don't worry about the Junkers kit, it is a lovely kit but I guess it is not a popular subject for most aviation modellers. Nothing to do with your review or the kit.👍
Being 2yrs older than you Jason I have great fond memories of Dr who ( Pertwee was my Dr) & Blake's 7. The Tripods I can't remember watching at all as I was 16 by then and started my working life so Sci-fi kind of took a back seat then for me. However I do have all the Dr Classic era on dvd as well as a big Soundtrack and audiobook(big finish) collection as well as Blake's 7 on dvd. The Tripods is one I will look out for now on dvd if I can get.
Blake's 7 was brilliant and I agree regarding Avon. Tripods was good but preferred Blake's 7. My wife didn't like either of them. Had forgotten a bit about Tripods, memories of the time have flooded back, I was 27 at the time.
Another great Table Talk. Being a couple of years older than you, The Tripods passed me by, unfortunately. Have to say, my favourite Sci-Fi series was the revamp of Battlestar Galatica, but I've yet to build a model of even a Raptor!
Jason -great Table Talk. Did you know Jon Pertwee was a sailor on the battlecruiser HMS Hood and was sent ashore (circumstances unclear) just before the ship sailed on its fateful encounter with Bismarck?
I remember the Tripods, sadly cut short by Michael Grade (remember him) and falling ratings - what's worrying is that Disney acquired the rights to it (oh dear).
Really great Table Talk, mentions of The Tripods, Blakes 7 and Space 1999. It only missed UFO👍 Great to hear all the news. I’m torn n the Gaahleri stuff. I want another Swallowtail, but I’m intrigued as to what the SP is in part 2 of their sale, but if I buy the swallow tail I can’t buy anything else. Decisions decisions. The desktop compressor is interesting as I could save myself walking to the utility room when I have small parts to paint and only need a minute or 2 spraying required. My Gaahleri pens arrived this week and they do appear to cover nicely. It would be great if they extend the metallics range. Colours like those on Jet fighters with the purple and blues along with more burnt colours would be great in those areas near the exhausts where the exterior surface of the jet engine is on view, and where the colours are quite amazing on the metals affected by the exhaust gas temperatures. I look forward to hearing who you are partnering with on the tools side. I have an inkling, but I’ll find out if my guess is correct. I can probably manage 4 photos of my 2023 builds. I haven’t managed to finish 1 yet, but with my new chair I’m hoping 2024 will see me able to accelerate my output. I look forward to the videos for the week ahead. Thanks Mark
Re cost of the hobby I really struggle with the cost ,I have to beg my chiropodist for sanding sticks.I looked at the prices at Telford and I'd love the posh sanding sticks but can't afford them.Im a above knee amputee and have only one functional hand so I live on benefits which have to pay for everything so sanding sticks er no.
Great table talk, shocked to hear that TH-cam charge 60%commission, thats not commission, thats definitely a rip off. Shame you can't set up payments a different way so most of the money goes into the channel

Hi Jason yet another great tabletalk. Going down memory lane 60/70s SI FI was good war of the worlds to tripods especially 😊
Hi Jason, great table talk.

God I loved The Tripods.
I wish they'd show them again.
never repeated, its criminal
The same here.
I’m now tempted to just build a proper 3D model of it. Hmmmmm

Ok so you need to read or listen to the third book. It’s great.
War of the Worlds for me was the 1953 movie which I saw on tv in the 1970's. And that has no tripods. Battlestar Galactica is the only science fiction tv series I remember following.

I agree the new BG was fabulous
Jason -great Table Talk. Did you know Jon Pertwee was a sailor on the battlecruiser HMS Hood and was sent ashore (circumstances unclear) just before the ship sailed on its fateful encounter with Bismarck?
HI Stepen, I knew he had been on Hood, not sure I knew he got off just in time though!
I remember the Tripods, sadly cut short by Michael Grade (remember him) and falling ratings - what's worrying is that Disney acquired the rights to it (oh dear).

I cannot say what the SP is unfortunatly, just a few more days
I remember watching the Tripods, the only problem was they were hardly ever in it?
In the first series yes, budget issues. minimum of 60 seconds of tripods per episode lol second series
lots more
Tail end of Jon Pertwee and then the amazing Tom Baker and Blake's 7 oh yes
golden age of TV Sci-fi
Oh yes!!! Servalan🥴🥰

sorry to hear that
Jason you really should get the boxed set of UFO
I have never watched UFO I know Space 1999 replaced it that’s it
Great table talk, shocked to hear that TH-cam charge 60%commission, thats not commission, thats definitely a rip off. Shame you can't set up payments a different way so most of the money goes into the channel
It’s a thought but only other way would be PayPal. If I do members through TH-cam though I can do members only videos
Sorry but it lost the plot in the 90s
Dr Who? yes I would agree. The tripods massivly out did Dr Who on special effects
