  • In the bell tower of Todaiji Temple in Nara, there is a national treasure, the great temple bell, which weighs 26.3 tons. It has been in existence since the temple was first built in 752 A.D. and is one of the three great temple bells in Japan, along with the bells at Chion-in Temple and Houkouji Temple in Kyoto.
Almost every day at 8 p.m., 18 bells ring in the night sky. They are usually not lit up and remain dark. This is the complete version of the bell ringing, from preparation to cleanup.
