Are Dehkia Zones in BDO Just Reused Content?

- Hi handsome, Luneye the Dehkia guy here yet again with another video.
This time we are discussing the Dehkia zones and whether they are just reused content, since it is another narrative that you tend to hear in the BDO circle quite often.
Reminder that I stream on twitch:
/ luneyebdo
And that I have a discord channel:
/ discord
"it allows developers to focus on other things"
other things: p2w aquarium, dance emotes, new costumes, messing with PVP
And story only 2.5 players care about.
lets just glaze over the whole loml 2 expansion they just released
@@natlty dude, litteraly nobody cares about this halfassed story. And Loml might as well not exist at all if you move the rewards on grind spots that could've been created instead. Our current world bosses are so dead that just updating them instead of wasting time to create new ones would've had the same effect. People are mad for a reason, devs are working on stuff nobody is interested in and shit on PvP to make everything even worse.
Thanks for the comment. Idk if you're memeing, but just in case for the people who aren't sure either, here is a short list of other things:
QoL features out the wazoo, LoML1+2, Ulukita and the Calpheon+Serendia stor rework in the same timespan that it usually takes to them to release maybe two of those things, new gamemodes in both PvP and PvE, new lifeskill, new systems, new bosses that the playerbase has wanted probably since the game's release, party-based endgame PvE.
Also just so you know, game monetization and game development are usually two completely different branches that have nothing to do with each other within companies (FFXIV is exactly like that if you want an example). Not that any of that really matters, since the game is not a charity so they need to make money.
@@natlty that shit is trash one-and-done content lmao, go play stardew valley or a single player game if that's what you want from bdo.
Dehkia feels like it should be a part of elvia.
Thank you for the comment.
The main problem (and the reason why I think PA started moving away from Elvia) is that Elvia reuses entire regions at once, whereas Dehkia is very selective in the placement and can be put in gradually. Atm Dehkia is in 3/4 of Odyllita zones, 1/9 Calpheon zones that don't have Elvia, 1/8 (soon to be 3/8) Kamasylvia zones, and 5/13 (soon to be 6/13) out of Valencia zones.
These zones are all over the place in terms of gs requirements as well (like Kama has Fadus and Ash Forest, Ody has Thornwood and Crypt, etc.), whereas the Serendia/Calpheon zones are all for the most part (I see you there, Star's End and Abandoned Monastery) around the same monster level/power, so maybe that's another reason why they strayed away from the Elvia idea.
Maybe the reason why Mediah still got no Dehkia is because we will get Elvia Mediah, but only time will tell.
I'm guessing Pearl Abyss is stretched thin in the developers department, so they re-use assets for new content.
Thank you for the comment.
This is not just a PA thing. Every gaming company ever does this. Reusing models/skeletons/animations is just a normal part of game development. FFXIV reuses entire boss models for their Ultimate raid as a big example.
I want elvia abandoned iron mine
Are you trying to gaslight people into saying that: reused models, animations, attack patterns, locations is not reused/recycled content? Only changed numbers and spawn timers based on a single location (no need designing rotations) with adjusted numbers. You're on a quest to be the biggest whiteknight of bdo? =)) Industry standard my ass... At least with elvia they really had a theme and new interesting mechanics going for it with unique loot and gearing options.
Hello my biggest fan!
Just here to thank you for the interractions! o7
@@Luneyebdo I see last one hit you hard. Surely watching this is more entertaining in the bdo section than 10th Kaid games tierlist. Good job! =)
Dehkia zones are just bad. You can't afk for like a minute after killing a pack. Or stop farming after 5-10-30 minutes and not feeling you've wasted value. And you are hard limited by spawn rate.
can't AFK? Bro you can literally turn off a lantern whenever you want
Thank you for the comment.
That is a fair criticism, idk why you need to use 20 light to start a fight, but I don't think that alone is enough to call the zones bad.
Getting limited by spawn rate is fine by me, since most people can't reach the spawn cap anyway.
I don't mind recycled content at all but Dehkia is mediocre. It was cool at first but I don't like the way they utilize it because it's the same thing everywhere and now the game has way too many tower spots which I feel originally were meant to be less common. Elvia was better because they would add multiple spots at once, would always give new purpose to grind zones that no longer served one, and they all had different mechanics at the very least. Trolls isn't like giants, castle ruins wasn't like orcs.
Helms mine, cron castle, waragons, marni's 2nd lab, goddamn keplan mine, wandering rogue den. All of the options for this dehkia yet they choose to add a 3rd grind spot to crescents, just like oluns and ash. Feels lazy as of lately.
Thanks for the comment.
The thing is that Elvia and Dehkia are the same thing, just a different execution. Dehkia adds multiple spots at once (with the one and only exception of Crescents). I talked about the purpose for each of these Dehkia zones appearing where they're appearing, and you cannot ever convince me that you grinded for more than an hour in any of the lower AP spots like Crescents, Thornwood or Turos in the last 2 years. They all have different mechanics (Cyclops is different from Hystria which is different from Sulfur which is different from Thornwood which is different from Crescents).
There must be a reason why Dehkia is only appearing in Kama, Ody and Valencia spots. I do remember the devs saying that there are no real grindspots in Balenos to put an Elvia zone there, which is why we started Elvia with Serendia, and maybe Dehkia would be better suited for zones in Balenos, since they don't really have circles, or even arenas, to run in, and are smaller zones by default. Maybe they want to keep the doors opened for a potential Elvia expansion, maybe they want to rework Mediah entirely and that's why that zone has been left the way it has for who knows how long now. We can only guess. All I know is that there must be a reason for it, even if it's as stupid as something like lore constraints.
I will touch on Dehkia2 quickly since I didn't talk about this in the video. Dehkia is supposed to be "evergreen" content. They are zones that you are not supposed to outlevel or outgear. Too good with regular Ash? Go Dehkia. Too good for even Dehkia Ash? Go Dehkia2, etc... Is it lazy? Sure. Still it is a necessary evil. Dehkia and Dehkia2 especially are very easy to make, so the idea that we would somehow get actual full-fledged grindspots instead of Dehkia is ridiculous to me. It's either Dehkia2 or nothing.
