David Cooper, Principal horn of the Dallas Symphony and Berlin Philharmonic plays Mozart Horn Concerto K. 495 with pianist Mikhail Berestnev in Fort Worth, TX on December 7, 2016.
You, Mr. Cooper, have a gorgeous sound. Your performance of this beautiful Concerto is. . .stunning! The Cadenza is beautiful, as are all of the Movements. I LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU SHOW YOUR PLEASURE WHILE PLAYING.
Practicing Mozart 4 with this video here in my garage! Thank you for your beautiful playing and all the wonderful lessons. Your teaching will stay with me forever!
Mr. Cooper, as a man who seriously studied a brass instrument with the intention of becoming a teacher and professional player, I can honestly say you are more than a superb hornist, but an ARTIST as well. What you have can NOT be taught ! You demonstrate unsurpassed technique, intonation, and beautiful phrasing. I also appreciate your "smaller" centered tone quality. As a music student in the 1960's, early 70's, it was becoming fashionable to try for a bigger and bigger sound that was " all over the clock". My favorite uncle was a professional hornist who played on a custom made Geier to his personal specifications. When I hear you play, I hear my beloved uncle of blessed memory and get tears in my eyes. Thank you for your artistry.
Good luck at Berlin! Although, am I the only one who is sad you will be forgoing that beautiful Lewis horn to play an Alex 103 with the Berlin Philharmonic?
