This Judge has the patience of Job....it's really great he's extremely fair, reasonable and able to deal with all her nonsense. I don't know how COs or cell mates deal with her on an everyday basis. I'm guessing they all want her trial to be over so she can move along to prison (where she belongs).

I love the attorney who was with the head jailer, who let her know exactly why she was "pro se" and she put herself in that mess! I'm a Municipal and Judicial Social Worker...Not, I'm not special at all, but I do work with attorneys as well as courts to help find indigent individuals legal representation for their cases...I have dealt with the worst of the worst in The Commonwealth of Virginia...With that being said...I want to let everyone know...That it's not simply "Just" her "old and dismissed" attorneys that are sitting back laughing at this....Let me tell you, it's a TONA OF Pro Bono...Pro Se' attorneys Laughing at this woman right now.. I don't know about other States or Commonwealths..But, in Virginia...EVERY Attorney in Virginia, that hasn't gotten past a certain point in their career...(Not sure at what point in their career they can stop taking Pro Bono, Pro Se' clients) but every attorney on the BAR, IS by law required to take on Pro Bono and Pro Se' indigent cases...therefore, she's being laughed at all across the entire BAR Association....This will be a very VERY POPULAR TELEVISED TRIAL..AND May even be used in Law Schools..in Virginia...(Not even a joke) She is complaining that her trial is sensationalized...when she is the very one that has sensationalized her OWN CASE!!! She says this is an active, ongoing investigation. That's untrue. This is an ongoing trial . The investigation has been completed and the state believes she is guilty of murder due to what they have done during the investigation. Now they just need to get her convicted.

I know people are going to howl in outrage, but as loathsome as she is, she's entitled to a fair trial. She can't represent herself without phone and internet access. Basic necessity.
She has been given the opportunity to receive a fair trial and she has chosen not to take it. She is on purpose trying to create a situation that is 'unfair' to use as her defense and also leverage it to get things she wants, like unfettered access to a working phone with her internet. She should not be allowed to just whine and complain herself into special treatment.

she actually only had 4 attorneys she blew off ....... one other got sick and 3 others recused early on as they cited conflicts of interest before they even really got involved with her. But 4 failed attorney client relationships is egregious- she is impossible.
In spite of all her complaints and wheedleing, she has STILL not looked through _"her"_ discovery materials! "I'm waiting for... x, y, and z." She should wake up, and start to use her time wisely.
I will take 7 skirts, access to all of the courtroom, 14 thumb drives, my old phone, a new phone, full access to 24 hour internet with my own laptop, my own classroom/office, a storage unit inside of my cell where all the evidence should be kept under my watchful eye, and for all of the press and internet to shut up and leave me alone!

That's why they advise so strongly to use council and not defend yourself. Because there is no way to keep a prisoner secure and confined while simultaneously giving them complete freedom to prepare a case. The fact that you have a constitutional right to speak on your own behalf is not a "get out of jail free" card. Your right to defend yourself does not guarantee that you have all the same rights as an unincarcerated defense attorney.

That lawyer is the only one who has the freedom to do so without potentially giving her an avenue of appeal. I LOVE this judge. He has his feet FIRMLY planted on the bedrock of "I will give her all the rope she needs to hang herself". If he does anything differently, she could get convicted, and then appeal that the court acted improperly and possibly win that appeal. (I mean, she's GONNA appeal, that's not a question). This way the appellate court will look at her appeal, review this judge's actions, and laugh the appeal right to the trash can. The lawyer for the jail people, though? He's not part of her case at all, so he CAN say what he wants... which is what most of us are thinking. ;-)

How is she supposed to do research for her self defense without internet? Or is it expected that she uses legal textbooks or laws and statutes that the jail library may or may not have? No access to Word program; it's more efficient to cut and paste the text of a law that she needs into a Word document rather than copying it by hand on paper, so why aren't they letting her use Word? Is there a captain among us?
The judge is simply the best that I’ve seen in a long time. He is patient, kind, smart, and understanding. Sarah is insufferable and is working his last nerve; however, he is unflappable. I’m very sorry that Jorge’s family has to endure this fiasco.

My God. I’m a criminal defense lawyer in MA and… She has _so much_ work to do… but instead she wastes time being so difficult on the most trivial things. The jail provided 2 extra bags to keep her case documents in, plus Manila folders as separators… I work on murder cases, and it is usually a _lot_ of documents, true… but you know what? Tough luck, you are going to have to make do with the Manila folders. Just make it work. Keep them organized. Use your extra paper to make bookmarks. Come up with a system. Just make it work. Get back to reading the state’s discovery and crafting your cross-examinations, opening, and closing statements, or read up on suppression law and how you might be able to get some of the evidence tossed (or at least try)… But instead, after >10 minutes on all that, she says: “Why can’t I just have rubber bands?” Ma’am! No! No rubber bands. Nothing that inmates could conceivably choke or stab themselves or anyone else with. End of story. Good lord. It’s like she doesn’t even realize the situation she is in. This is such a colossal waste of time when she has so much else she should be doing right now. Trial is going to come up fast. And for someone who has never gone to law school, never read about criminal procedure or evidence law, she has such a hill to climb… she needs to drop the petty stuff and start focusing on how she is going to fight the state’s evidence.

ThIs is so unfair. The court should be ashamed of themselves. I understand that you want her to represent herself but to mail the information to her and not allow her to actually even receive the information and then going to court without it and then give her no time to absorb the information and then have to represent herself puts her so behind the ball. It is 2024 she should be receiving all of this by email it is ridiculous that they are posting it and it’s not even arriving.
It may be true that she’s unprepared for life, but it’s absolutely disgusting and unreasonable for the judge to continuously say that he mailed the documents to her and he doesn’t care whether she received them or not. Exactly! Help, I have a question. When people are representing themselves in murder trials don't they usually have the assistance of an attorney? I always thought they gave them One automatically even if they didn't listen to them. I've seen it in a couple of cases. I just don't know if it's different from different jurisdictions and if she's put the kibosh on that.
She's become so obsessed with meticulous note-taking and gathering paperwork and requesting trivial information that she's losing track of everything. The judge is constantly having to remind her of things she's already been told or things she's received by requesting. She's had years of just sitting in jail. You can plan and prepare your case without constant internet privileges. She's too preoccupied with trying to get the last word in arguments and trying to catch the court doing something unconstitutional that I don't even think she's focusing on her case
The judge tells her what's going to happen, she writes it down. They send her written info about the hearings and still she comes to hearings pretending she doesn't know what it's about. What is she writing?

@@Kit1128 Sadly its not surprising. She wants to claim she is the best at everything .....but then also wants to claim that she doesn't know what she is doing!! She complained about being in cuffs and being seen in them by the jurors giving her a disadvantage and then agreed to the stun cuff on her ankle because she would be able to have freedom of movement which was then granted by the judge. Now today she wants to wear a skirt knowing full well that the jurors will then see the cuff on her ankle. Now she wants the stun cuff moved to a different location. She complained she didn't have clothes and now she is provided with an array of clothing .....so then she asks if clothing can be brought in by her 'friends' ......the problem with her is if you give her an inch she then wants it to be a mile. If you give her a mile she then wants 10 miles. To be honest I don't see the investigator sticking around for long .....Sarah is determined that she will get Internet access and unlimited use of a phone. So she will make life difficult for the investigator in order to get her ultimate goal. I guarantee she will not take the lone cell .....at the next hearing she will once again demand the classroom depriving every other inmate of access to it.

It’s never enough for her. She gets four lawyers removed-it's someone else's fault. She hires more lawyers who can't work with her-it's all their fault. She exhausts the entire justice system-it's the system's fault. She can’t control her drinking-Jorge is to blame. She kills Jorge-he’s ultimately responsible for his own death. The interrogation video undermines her defense-it wasn’t fair. She had the right to remain silent during questioning-'They tricked me.' The judge is as fair as possible-but not fair enough for her. The prosecution is lenient-but they could do more for her. She receives a laptop, flash drive, document boxes, and a private investigator for her case-but it’s too little, too late. She gets time from 8 AM to 4 PM to prepare her case-but it’s not enough time. For this woman, life is never, ever, ever enough. Never.

Actually she does when it comes to anything regarding the case. For instance, if she did have a lawyer, all communication between her and lawyer is private. Those calls cant be recorded or listened in on. Same goes with certain mail regarding the case

the legal advisor for the prison was awesome, he handled the way all KARENS need to be handled . It is impossible to please her so just tell her what the law requires and move on.

Because there is no way to keep a prisoner secure and confined while simultaneously giving them complete freedom to prepare a case. The fact that you have a constitutional right to speak on your own behalf is not a "get out of jail free" card. Your right to defend yourself does not guarantee that you have all the same rights as an unincarcerated defense attorney.

I have a question for someone who knows about pro se judicial procedures.
Boone is given the laptop, but not given access to the internet or to Microsoft Word. How is she supposed to do research for her self defense without internet? Or is it expected that she uses legal textbooks or laws and statutes that the jail library may or may not have?
No access to Word program; it's more efficient to cut and paste the text of a law that she needs into a Word document rather than copying it by hand on paper, so why aren't they letting her use Word?

My God. I’m a criminal defense lawyer in MA and… She has _so much_ work to do… but instead she wastes time being so difficult on the most trivial things. The jail provided 2 extra bags to keep her case documents in, plus Manila folders as separators… I work on murder cases, and it is usually a _lot_ of documents, true… but you know what? Tough luck, you are going to have to make do with the Manila folders. Just make it work. Keep them organized. Use your extra paper to make bookmarks. Come up with a system. Just make it work. Get back to reading the state’s discovery and crafting your cross-examinations, opening, and closing statements, or read up on suppression law and how you might be able to get some of the evidence tossed (or at least try)… But instead, after >10 minutes on all that, she says: “Why can’t I just have rubber bands?” Ma’am! No! No rubber bands. Nothing that inmates could conceivably choke or stab themselves or anyone else with. End of story. Good lord. It’s like she doesn’t even realize the situation she is in. This is such a colossal waste of time when she has so much else she should be doing right now. Trial is going to come up fast. And for someone who has never gone to law school, never read about criminal procedure or evidence law, she has such a hill to climb… she needs to drop the petty stuff and start focusing on how she is going to fight the state’s evidence.

I always thought they gave them One automatically even if they didn't listen to them. I've seen it in a couple of cases. I just don't know if it's different from different jurisdictions and if she's put the kibosh on that.
She's become so obsessed with meticulous note-taking and gathering paperwork and requesting trivial information that she's losing track of everything. The judge is constantly having to remind her of things she's already been told or things she's received by requesting. She's had years of just sitting in jail. You can plan and prepare your case without constant internet privileges. She's too preoccupied with trying to get the last word in arguments and trying to catch the court doing something unconstitutional that I don't even think she's focusing on her case

The judge tells her what's going to happen, she writes it down. They send her written info about the hearings and still she comes to hearings pretending she doesn't know what it's about. What is she writing?

She complained about being in cuffs and being seen in them by the jurors giving her a disadvantage and then agreed to the stun cuff on her ankle because she would be able to have freedom of movement which was then granted by the judge.
Now today she wants to wear a skirt knowing full well that the jurors will then see the cuff on her ankle. Now she wants the stun cuff moved to a different location.
She complained she didn't have clothes and now she is provided with an array of clothing .....so then she asks if clothing can be brought in by her 'friends' ......the problem with her is if you give her an inch she then wants it to be a mile. If you give her a mile she then wants 10 miles.
To be honest I don't see the investigator sticking around for long .....Sarah is determined that she will get Internet access and unlimited use of a phone. So she will make life difficult for the investigator in order to get her ultimate goal.
I guarantee she will not take the lone cell .....at the next hearing she will once again demand the classroom depriving every other inmate of access to it.
I got $200 on this. Because she will expect that investigator to do EVERYTHING an attorney would do.

It’s never enough for her. She gets four lawyers removed-it's someone else's fault. She hires more lawyers who can't work with her-it's all their fault. The interrogation video undermines her defense-it wasn’t fair. She had the right to remain silent during questioning-'They tricked me.' The judge is as fair as possible-but not fair enough for her. The prosecution is lenient-but they could do more for her. She receives a laptop, flash drive, document boxes, and a private investigator for her case-but it’s too little, too late. She gets time from 8 AM to 4 PM to prepare her case-but it’s not enough time. For this woman, life is never, ever, ever enough. Never.
