    I really wanted to go on an exchange program in Japan. I’m in my last year of high school though, so it’s impossible for me to do it now :/. My plan/dream is to go to Japan during college or even after that. Until then, I’ll keep practicing my Japanese and hoping I can accomplish my dream

      hey! there are actually many exchange programs you can do for college! make sure to research and see which one is right for you, but honestly, it is never too late to be able to do a program

      I understand how you feel. This is my second to last year of high school and I was hoping to go to japan this year from April 2021-April 2022. I wasn’t able to go in 2020 or 2019 because I wasn’t old enough (Every program I looked at required you to be 15) but I would of loved to go then. I won’t be able to go for the full of next year because I’ll miss the whole school year and won’t be able to graduate. I’m currently hoping to go for 6 months next year but I’ll have to work really hard next year so I can get enough credits to graduate high school. I hope you’re still able to have lots of fun when you go to japan for university.

    A few questions I hope you can answer in a Q and A video (or just a reply) ^_^
    Which program did you go on exchange with?
    How long did you go on exchange for?
    When is your exchange ending?
    How was your first day?
    Host family sorting?
    Are you repeating a year when you get back home?
    Do you have any host siblings?
    That’s all, hope it’s not too much

    Has anyone ever done this senior year? How would this affect applying to college and not being able to take as many courses? Would it still be possible to get into a prestigious university?

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did this from the end of junior year to mid-senior year. I'll be graduating next year, taking necessary courses. I'll have the same amount, maybe even more, courses than normal. Most people in my country also take a leap year anyway after high school. It will differ between countries. Maybe ask your guidance counselor? Sorry, I can't really give any good advice on this.

    This is so cool!! I would also really love to go on exchange to japan, I am really acared tho! Do you have any tips that helped you feel less anxious?

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really really wanted this experience so any fears I had where dwarfed by my will to go. I still had my own worries but luckily we had a preparation camp where all of the Finnish exchange students met. I would emphasize that even though there may be bumps along the way, exchange students are usually a really tight bunch. Because almost nobody knows anyone, you can make friends easily. And you’ll always have a safety net to fall on!

    • @sae5378

      marilinesp actually writing this while on the way to the concert. I’ll try to work on a vlog, but because Japanese concerts are really strict about taking video or pictures, I’ll probably have to speak about the concert afterwards.

    If you become an exchange student do you need to know japanese before hand?

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Some exchange programs might require prior Japanese studies (STS does I believe) but many don’t. I didn’t know any Japanese when I arrived. But knowing some, like katakana and hiragana, is always a plus.

    Hi!
    Are you taking ballet classes together with Japanese students ?
    I’m also an exchange student in Japan and I really wanted to take ballet classes but I was so worried of their reaction I don’t know so finally I didn’t go and my exchange is almost over 😭😅how is it?

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I'm taking ballet classes with other high schoolers. In the beginning I too was worried if I could continue ballet but in the end everything ended up falling in place. My host family was familiar with ballet as a hobby and a fellow school mate introduced me to their ballet teacher. I was really lucky but I would be lying if I said I'm not intimidated and tired sometimes. They take ballet very seriously here.
      But I hope you can get back to doing Ballet soon, wherever it may be!

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don’t worry too much about bullying. Usually students are really nice to exchange students. While in the beginning the language barrier makes communicating a tad bit difficult, but a lot of people will want to be your friend.

    i have a question. if yu go as an exchange student to japan, do you have to repeat the year at your country?

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hiraku- Chan Not exactly, I only have a few elective courses and finals left. It really depends on the school but most 1 year exchange students end up repeating.

    • @swako9290
      @swako9290 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey I have a couple questions, are you living in a host home? Also, (how do you shave?) I’m sorry but I’m going on an exchange soon and I’m a bit scared about like showering.

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Showering will be different in every country but don’t worry too much! In Japan the whole family enters the bath one by one in the evening. I use my showering time to shave. The only thing I would recommend, if you are shy, is to keep your toiletries like razors and face wash in a separate bag out of your host family’s sight. I have one in my room that I take with me every time I shower.

    Question: how did you get to do ballet classes in japan? Because I'm interested in going on with ballet but if I'm on exchange I fear that I cannot find any classes. Also, can you tell me about your experience with ballet there? Is it any better?

    • @sae5378
      @sae5378  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know the feeling that was me too! I was really lucky because a boy from my school reached out to me and asked me to join the ballet school he attended. They were super welcoming. I’m not very good, ballet has always only been a hobby to me, so I thought that they take ballet really seriously in Japan🇯🇵 It was quite tough. I hope you can continue dancing!
