SOLVED - Nissan Warning Key ID Incorrect

  • Have you had the Key ID Error appear on your Nissan dashboard?
When you do, you then know you have to hold the key fob up to the start stop button to register before your vehicle will start.
It's most likely the battery needs replaced. If you change the battery and it solves the error, nice one. However, if it hasn't, the terminals on the circuit board that touch the battery have probably been pushed flat when pressing the key fob.
It's a simple fix, but please be gentle when splitting/ cracking, open the fob, don't push the screwdriver tip in to far. Slow and steady wins the race.
Additionally, If you have just replaced the battey a few months back, but are now starting to get the key id error, This is probably from pressing the fob a little too hard, they are very flimsy little fekers.
So, open the fob, spin the battery around slightly, gently lift up the connectors so they get better contact with the battery.
    Hope this helps.

I’m out of town for work, working two jobs to make ends meets, down to just this vehicle. Wife stuck at hone with the baby. And I got that error code and couldn’t get the car to start. Bank acct empty to pay for an Uber and in sheer panic. Took a second to breath. Went on here and found your video. And the car started. Oh my did you just save my day !!

If youre not in a positon to fix it like this. Pressing the FOB to the start ignition generally works.

Every time this happens to me (and before I changed the battery it was every time I got in the car), I would hit any button on the fob and then immediately press the ignition button and it always would start.

ANOTHER FIX -> Just to add if this doesn't solve your issue, what worked for me was sliding a couple of layers of thin cardboard (e.g from a cereal packet) under where the battery sits. Cut the cardboard so it's roughly the shape of the battery. This was enough for the battery to then remain in contact with the terminals.
This solved the issue where the fob would unlock the car but kept stating 'key ID incorrect', even though I had changed the battery.
    Hope this helps someone :)

Same here. I hope it worked for me too.
Mine was working on and off, the only way to get around it was to press the alarm button. After that, just break pedal and start button as usual. (You may try that if stranded again)
Let’s see if we can skip the dealer this time :-D

Good Video. Tried this. The "contacts" / "pins" were already quite a bit raised. They seemed to be at an angle of 60 degrees. Still as recommended I raised them a little bit with my screw driver and it worked. However after 3/4 days again I have an issue where sometimes the key works and sometimes it does not. I notice that when I move the key and swing my entire arm, it works.... somehow the shaking motion, seems to send the wifi signal to the car.... Did anyone experience this ? Ofcourse can't do this inside the car !! Sometimes while driving I still get "Key id incorrect" sudenly. My battery was changed in Sep 2021.
Anyway, i like the thought process and analysis presented in the video. Its quite logical.

Here is more good solid advice, I had 2 fobs from a 2017 Altima, neither worked as remotes and had key id errors, but would start the car if I pushed to the start button. I actually put a external power supply on the contacts and they both worked, so it had to be the contacts or the batteries, they both were making good contact so I found a Panasonic 2032 and it worked right away, don't use cheap Chinese 2032 batteries, I measured 3.2vdc on fresh Chinese batteries and the fob was unresponsive, spend a few more dollars and get Energizer or Panasonic, be wary of Amazon cells.

Wow. Thank you sir. I am pass battery change stage but I thought there would be much harder way of sorting it. The most annoying bit was after battery change to be able to open door remotely from 100 metres yet car being unaware of fob presence but now it make sense. I will try to do it in 4 days when back from work as it does really annoy me on each time now as I am entering the car. I was normally just pressing door open or close switch till message dissappear but never thought that solution might be so obvious. I guess that when I changed the battery it pressed pins further down even more. I will give an update of how it went.

  • @rkgsd
    @rkgsd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So you're saying the message isn't caused by the vehicles computer, but the battery contacts. I think for me, it was caused by the car sitting in storage not started for months at a time. I believe the link between the fob and the car was lost and that it has to be reprogrammed. Batteries in the main fob and the spare were both changed.
