I never underrated Saga. They are the best band to come out of Canada. They have a very complex sound that you recognize the moment you hear them. By the way, I'm 80 and I can still remember the first time on CFNY which was then known as "The Spirit of Radio" in Brampton, Ontario. They were the best then and now.
@raphaelszok8561 Saga could never too loud whether you're 18 or 80. There's nothing like them. I would never compare them to Triumph or any other mainstream band from anywhere. Who does Canada have to-day? Oh yeah, Celine Dion and Justin Bieber. Celine abandoned Canada for Los Vegas money.
The fact that they're able to perform at this level at this age is astounding. Only a few artists have managed to effectively stay this consistent over their career. If you watch a video from the 80's it sounds exactly the same as this, and even better than the version on the record. These guys have aged like fine wine, huge respect for their work and what they do 👍
I was privileged to have seen SAGA in Abilene, Texas, in 1982 of all places. What a show. It's one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I was in the Air Force station there at Dyess. 22 years old and was rocking.
I'm completely blown away that this amazing voice sounds as good now (well, in 2018) as it did when I first heard/saw "On The Loose" on MTV in 1981/2. Rock on, SAGA!!!
I just found my 45 record of "On the Loose" and immediately went online to watch the original video from back in the day, and then I watched THIS concert performance! I was floored! Man, his voice is a powerhouse! Incredible after all these years! Rock on, SAGA!!!
Pro-Tip: If you have the audience sing the chorus (which is fine), make sure they're actually mic'ed and put up high enough in the audio mix during post-production.
@@maaaguz Wrong. @02:35 That crowd was singing and definitely into it. You can't be that energetic and not sing along. This is poor skills from the FOH engineer. Sometimes you can't "fix it in post" if it's too messed up to begin with. Depending on the mix, they probably couldn't correct that without it looking/sounding generic or off. But the band was in fine form👍😊.
@@dlighted1277 Very well said - it could also be that Saga's stage producer was not AT the mixing table - I have to be on top of the FOH engineer whilst speaking with the stage crew on talkback when he doesn't know the band I'm with. If it is a DMC it wasn't properly set up
What a great, underrated band. Long live Canadian music. These guys were well ahead of their time....I still love listening to them. Who could say they still sound like a 30 year old album this late in the game? I'm just really glad they're still out there sounding better than ever. One band I'll be sure to see before I kick-off.
I thought these guys were done years ago. Nice to see I was wrong. They sound the same all these years later. Fantastic. None of my friends knew who Saga was back in the 80's, which was a shame.
I have followed Saga before they became Saga back in the days (70s) they were called Pockets and performing the southern Ontario bar circuit. My GF & I had the privilege back in 2018 to meet all the band members after a show and chatted about the old days. Was a night to remember I will never forget. Michael's voice, stage presence and the complexity of their music is Hall of Fame worthy. Made it big in Europe, Germany loves Saga but not so much in North America sadly.
Probably the most underrated lead guitarist in the last 50 years. One of the most skilled. Wow! The music and new bands nowadays are amateurs compare to the masters that record companies promoted in the 70s and 80s.
Electrifying amazing what a great show 67 years old and still sounds just as good as he did back in 81. Need the 50+ crowd in back of the Arena on there feet n sing back, to the singer energize the arena.✌
One of the most underrated bands of our time! Most people have never heard of them, but those that know, love them! Been a fan since 1981 when I saw them in Germany while serving in the Army!
My very first favorite band. 9th grade. Saw the video on MTV and I was hooked. Took the money I made babysitting to National Record Mart in the mall and bought the Worlds Apart LP. I was obsessed with them. Got all their other stuff on cassette. They turned out to just be my gateway to Canadian prog rock, though. From the second I heard the Grace Under Pressure album, I was owned by Rush. (Still am at age 52)
Still one of the best bands of all time... period!! Still waiting to see them in the UK again!! Maybe they will reunite at some point and play Steelhouse Festival!!
SAGA's sound was light years ahead of anyone in the 80s
You mean 70s!!!
@@mosesgladstone8274 I said 80s because this album dropped in 81.
Michael Sadler's voice sounds just like it did in the '70's and 80's. Amazing!
I totally agree!
I can hardly believe it was 1981 that I saw them play live for the first time....
He is probably the most underrated vocalist of all time. His voice just commands!
true
Rik Emmet of Triumph another voice that is great.

holy crap.... the singer was amazing! He sounds exactly like he did when they wrote that tune. wow.
not one ounce of power has left Michael's voice. band is tight AF. well done, Saga.
fuk ya

Bob Goodoien you are not kidding. They sound like time stood still!!!!!
John Underwood ..... they sound even better , tighter , the same tempo, but somehow not feeling rushed .. imho
Hell ya!
His voice sounds exactly the same as it did in the 80s.
This is basically the best song ever written.
The more that things change the more they stay the same... Thank god
Impressed by the quality of his voice after all these years. What a joy listening to this hit of 1981!
Wow his voice is still amazing
He sounds great. Boy do I miss those 80s.
Wow. They sound every bit as good as they did 40 yrs ago. Fantastic!
Damn! Dudes voice is strong!! They sound awesome!
These guys still sound fantastic. And Michael still has his voice, great!
He sure does, been listening to these guy's since early 80s!!! Awsome band!!! 👍👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
Boy, his pipes are factory fresh still to this day.

one of the greatest songs mankind gave the universe. that guitar keyboard duel melted the sun.
so true....just amazing the tightness in that
This is Rock and Roll Timeless
It's a great song but not quite universe altering sun melting great. If the sun melts we're all screwed

No one. Can ever. Say that SAGA aren't musicians...to the core. Wow x 100...and Ian Crichton is a brilliant guitarist; technical AND tone.
WOW. THEY SOUND LIKED THEY NEVER AGED. THIS IS INCREDIBLE! THE SINGING IS FANTASTIC!😊
And Michael obviously puts in A LOT of time keeping both his voice and himself in shape. It’s paid off.
Amazing. Just amazing.
Saga live, it’s incredible. this song is from 1980. This group should always fill stadiums
Dang his voice is still amazing wow....
That drummer is KILLING IT!!!!!!!!!
It´s the only one member that has changed
Original drummer was left handed
Yeah he is. Take it from me this is a tricky song to play.
MY JAW. THE FLOOR. PICK UP OFF. How many lead singers still have a voice like this?
Sadler sounds awesome. Some others that have overall held up really well: Dennis Deyoung, Daryl Hall, Paul Carrack, Paul Rodgers.
Nancy Willson--Heart
the guitar player is also amazing
@@monkeyb1820 Dennis still delivers for sure. good one

I have to agree. I was a huge fan back in the day and even since then there’s scarcely a day I don’t hum at least part of this song.
When I play this song, my neighbors listen to it also. Every time. No complaints so far!
It's incredible that he still has that much vocal firepower -- 37 years after the song was first released!
I honestly thought I was the only person who knew they existed. I’m so happy they have a following that still loves them!
Damn. Michael was about 64 there. He must have found some kind of fountain of youth. The whole band sounds really powerful still. Thats awesome!
