Vietnam's Venetian Village: Life in a Floating House 🇻🇳

- ■ LAN HA BAY, VIETNAM: The coolest and by far the most unique place I have uncovered in Vietnam is the floating village community of Lan Ha Bay (next to Ha Long Bay). There are several of these but only one I've seen you can actually live in.
These are not tourist traps or set up for that purpose. The floating homes in these fishing villages have been there for 600 years and people live there even today. That is also what makes them so great as it gives foreigners and incredible opportunity to see how people live and thrive out in these coves.
Having only spent one night in this floating village upon my previous visit, I was eager to go back. This time however I was not going to make the mistake of only staying for one night.
I wanted to paddle a traditional plant woven boat. Hunt Gongo. Scale one of the mountain peaks and also get a closer look at the lives of the locals.
I decided 3 nights would be needed to accomplish said tasks.....

this is now my 2nd favorite video, after the Nepal hike you did with the woman you hiked up with!
Agreed :)
2160p60 wow he needs this camera every video ❤
I liked the Macchu Picchu videos.
Mexico series was good too.
So many favorites I have. This is up there with the best though.
Nice to see a TH-camr that has remained the same even after finding huge success...so many become divas, full of themselves. Harald remains the same man of the people
🙏🏻
❤❤❤
Heraldo!
10/10 commitment
I've been watching Harald for years and we can agree that he's 100% the same since the beginning.
It's amazing how i fall asleep on a 2 hours action movie, but i can watch Harald's 2 hours Videos with full excitement from beginning to end
you just watch him to spy out all the good gongo spots!
how nice and genuine the boatman.
indeed how beautiful and cozy there at the boathouse at night.
A gem 💎
throwing the fish at noodles was the single most greatest moment in youtube history
I hope he's finally forgiven it
Almost 2 hour video for lazy Sunday afternoon? I'll take it!❤
The woman in the couple kept saying you're very handsome very handsome, and then leaned against the door and smiled, which made me feel so adorable.
I have been watching Harald for years and his is the only channel whose videos are as good now as they were when I started. Always always always keeps me engaged and interested. A true gift/talent. Not to mention every time he visits a country it almost always goes on my list of countries I want to visit. Thank you Harald. You are a true treasure.
Man, scaling the rocky mountain holding a camera without any safety gear. Northman has balls of steel.
IT WAS STUPID..........
@@hikeyt2747 Not safe, not even someone to check up on him, I was like - what is this Heraldo doing, please God keep him safe. Honestly. BTW nice Northman that you are sensible about meeting people with some small gifts, and sharing, to break the ice. I like that partial FPV camera shots, companionship, showing everyday places, interactions, authenticity etc. Happy and safe journeys.
Only he managed to upload the video so he was OK. But I was really worried still watching that ...
I was so nervous for him.
Very stupid!!
This is the first time it got recommended so soon after the upload ✨
Halong Bay is an excellent example of karst topography. It’s formed by the dissolution of limestone. The fabric of the rock that you climbed is called phytokarst, where dissolution is enhanced by organic acids from plants, algae, and fungi.
The notches that you see right at sea level (where the woman was harvesting little snails) are wrongly referred to as “wave-cut notches.” You can see that there’s no wave energy. The notches are formed by bioerosion, where snails, urchins, chitons, clams, etc are actually rasping away at the rocks to eat the algae that grows in that intertidal zone.
Vietnam is awesome. 🇻🇳
To what do ascribe the strange sound the rocks make when crashing together? Also they were way heavier than normal rocks I encounter in Himalayas or Europe. Is this normal for limestone?
The limestone rock “flakes” make a pleasant/strange ringing sound when banged together. Other rocks will do this, too. It’s just that the karsted limestones make that flaky form.
Limestone is made of the mineral calcite, which is relatively dense at 2.7 g/cm^3.
Btw, just got back from Norway (Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger, and Oslo). Holy shit it’s expensive. Beautiful, but now I have to sell rocks by the side of the road.
That's so interesting, thanks for sharing!!
He was so happy when he saw the beer. 😊 The man deserved it for being so kind to you.
I think Harald could actually spend a year there and have very interesting content he’s a kind hearted man .
If seriously struggle after a month living on nothing but Muk Muk but I’d love to go back and spend a week or two one day
Ham ham de Muk Muk no gud gud 🤠🤝
@@HaraldBaldr There are a lot of other places in Vietnam that offers a unique experience like Monkey Island in Nha Trang, the tombs of the Nguyen emperors in Hue, Truong Son mountain ranges, Ning Binh, jungle of the south. And I can't believe I haven't seen a buffalo ride.
What does Muk muk mean? I have googled it and well……..😂

Great to see more incredible video from our favourite youtuber! The best coverage of any vlogger on the web! Well done Harald!
Phuc Baldr is truly spoling us with this Vietnam series. 🇻🇳
I just got back from Vietnam after spending a week in the country. I was absolutely blown away with the hospitality and how genuine the people were there. One of my favorite places i've ever been to and I can't wait to go back.

Watching you climb Mount Northman had me worried for you. Literally climbing a wall of jagged stone spears, most likely infested with poisonous creatures. All while half naked. Fireball mountain was bigger , but this mount Northman was butt puckering .Legendary awesomeness man 10/10 . Just stay safe so that we can keep watching you do the things most of us can't do. Skal Harald! He liked my comment!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
The Vietnam series as a whole has been great, this video in particular is spectacular content. I think these are the best videos you have done since the Nepal trips. The Vietnamese people seem so kind and genuine.
Definitely one of the best and funniest videos so far .
Good work Haraldo .
You have a gift with people Harald. What a beautiful place. Thanks for all the effort to get the shot on top of Mt Northman. What you do is an art and not easy. Thank you sir.
Idk why im so addicted to this guy videos
Me too! Am fascinated with him and the journeys he takes us on. 😊
Yo is this the Jeorge Masvidal aka Gamebred!

Love these videos. There hasn’t been a single video that has been posted that my wife and I don’t watch all the way through. Such gorgeous scenery.
Now we understand why Sunil kept chanting about those attack plants throughout the trek😂😂😂
😂😂🫣
😂 💀
Harald is rocking the Vietnam hat again, i love it.
Heraldo knows what we need on a Sunday afternoon. Absolutely love the videos from Vietnam. ❤
I love how Harald trash talk the trash talkers throughout the video love this man
“Where are your Peasants from?” With Noodles totally laid back calm response. “Norway”. I’m still laughing over that comment. 😂
Noodles is gold lmao.
You gotta put time stamp for comment like this😂
The captions you put on the locals has me laughing so hard my stomach and cheeks hurt😅😂 it's the best thing ever when you do that!!!!!
I'm just meticulously translating the local's convos. Guess I'm lucky I always meet people talking about hilarious stuff
It took me a while to realise they aren't real 😂
@@fadlin5650 What are you trying to say? 🤔
@HaraldBaldr I thought you made them up. Too hilarious 😂
@@Fadlinification You thought wrong! They've always been 6862% accurate and I take great pride in that!

Just love Halong Bay. Only time I was there was 2000. Wish I could be there now. That lady in your film was a natural. I am sure you took good care of her.

Thank you for being you Harald
this sunday couldnt get any better with allmost a 2hour video!
this guy's 2 hour videos are amazing - especially if off the beaten path. He showed us things here that we will never ever see.
Such a gorgeous country with amazing people for some good old fashioned Herald Exploration and Herald Invasions!
Thank you for taking us on this amazing adventure! You're hands-down my favorite vlogger.
This has to be one of the best Heraldo videos of all time. So real and authentic. Giving us a true insight into the lives of the Vietnamese people. Loving the longer and less edited video! Thank you for such great content!
You make my hands sweat when you scale up those sharp rocks! I had to fast forward to when you landed in your boat and was so thankful you were safe! Thank you very much for going the EXTRA MILE to entertain us! We love you! ❤
Who needs Google translate when you have accurate captions that makes the conversation flowing and the understanding on point.
Really happy you were able to extend your stay around there. The regret of not having more time there was evident from the way you spoke in the last video. Glad it worked out!!!
Whoever designed that floating home, much respect 👍 Lots of details went into making it awesome & beautiful.
Woww almost 2 hours video... what a Blessed Sunday 🙌
What a good guy, rowing all that way to show you boots so you could be more comfortable on the shore...
Life in that village seems so nice. Fish in the morning and karaoke at night
Paddling around disrupting the whole village. I love it !
It's really nice to see that you're still the same as you used to be and not taken off because you've found great success.
Really enjoyed this video. Love the way you are filming and get in touch with the locals. So refreshing compared to other travel videos. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for making this Harald. We love you!
We need atleast 1 video in a week Harald 😍 feeling the urge to watch more after following all your previous 10 videos in a week
Glad you went back Harald. What a place I could watch this content all day. Stay safe & good content again👍
No one makes videos like Harald. This was a gift. This one might be one of, if not the best, videos I've ever seen. Thank you, Northman.
Thanks. Appreciate that 🙏
I admire how raw, real and genuine you are Harald. You are one of a kind! Thank you for sharing all your adventures with us
Keep them coming Haraldo!
20 Seconds ago? Let's go!❤❤❤
Tough people climb on the sharp rocks...
Insane Viking Harald climbs on the sharp rock then places the camera there and goes back down to the start to film it 🤯
Harald, once again you've done a masterpiece video. Relaxing, funny and i feel like i'm almost there with you. Doing a trip like this with you and living this like you do must be awsome! Drinking a cold Saigon with that views, what a dream!
The type of content you create is very unique upon watching your videos. I find extreme joy and I see a great commitment behind establishing a TH-cam network. Good job,Harald

They were all perfect! Fucking hilarious!
Great video, that hike up that cliff was crazy
Harald this is a beautiful video. Those people are so wonderful. All they want to do is help you, and make you feel at home. Good stuff.
What a beautiful country with beautiful people
"no dong, no orange"
That's hilarious lol
🤣🤣🍺
Actually the lady told Harald take picture of Oyster is kind and helpful, how honest she is. She negotiated for him in very detail, plum, orange, drinks only cost 2 Dollars, local price not for tourist. She said: “Let him buy those items under 50,000 Dong” How nice she is because she did not let the saler boat rip him off.😊❤!
Thanks for sharing it. Amazing place and people. ✌️
Thank you Harold. You are a gentle kind soul, bless you. I’ve been grinning this while video ❤️
