+Lefebvre Julien Just helping a clearly lonely dude meet people, pitch in and help this dude. Hanging out with just your family, that's sad shit in 2016.
The average person in America calls associates, coworkers, and acquaintances friends. And the average American is over the age of 25 and have social skills that enable them to have well over 80 "friends", it's just the younger generation that have poor social skills and need digital social networks to meet "friends". Going to a bar, nightclub, or coffee shop is funny, watching Millennials interact is comedy gold😎
+andrewjacksonbr "Acquaintances" are NOT friends. A friend is someone who knows who you are as a person outside of a restrained, professional environment. A coworker is not a friend unless you spend time with them outside of work and get to know each other on an emotional, personal level. Otherwise they're just people you're friendly with....an ACQUAINTANCE. Classmates, coworkers, whatever, these terms are not synonymous with "friend".
andrewjacksonbr Indeed, that's how the average idiot defines "friend". Our point is they are wrong and therefore we dismiss any data that results from such an incorrect idea. And I would bet the average idiot millennial is in contact with many times the number of people as, say, the average idiot 40-60 year old. Someone you chat with on a daily basis on some dumb forum or stream chat is just as much an "acquaintance" as someone you share niceties with during an eight hour shift and leave at the office to not think of again until you get back the next morning.
The Congo is definitely more than 95% Congolese. While Non-Hispanic Whites in America are around 65%. Plus, the main point is that is keeps their world view very small when having a less diverse community of people.
+Dustin The Ninja I guess you wasn't listening but one of the panelist just mentioned the same situation you brought up being from Turkey and having to break his "comfort" zone to make non-white friends when he moved to the US. You're just proving his point and proved about yourself that you wouldn't break your "comfort" zone to meet people look/are different from you.
How is it meant to criticize white people when there are white people at that table. TYT is a white channel. You just feel guilty and uncomfortable when race comes up, you don't even listen to what they're saying. It really proves how you don't want to own up to what your ancestors did
MOME914 I didn't say they succeeded haha. You can't be guilty of something you had no part in. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is unfit to be a person.
Blazed and Confused You might not feel guilty but alot of white people do. And people do have a part in it since they benefit from what happened. Without being specific, its like buying stolen property, or being guilty by association. They are not at fault the same way the people who did are but they have some culpability.
Blackatchaproduction Why single out white people in the title? They go on to admit that all races tend to stick to their own, for the most part. Ana even says "The same is true for black people, but it's not as stark". Obviously not, since whites make up the majority in population. The title would have been more accurate to say "Study shows most _Americans_ self segregate".
Blackatchaproduction Haha TYT changed the title because it was so dishonest, but they weren't smart enough to change the description were it says "especially white people". In case you're too dumb to understand the study...the study does not show that white people segregate more. The fact that they changed the title is PROOF my racist friend.
Ok let's think about this - Imagine I have a school with 100 students, 90 of whom are white and 10 of whom are black. The black students will tend to gravitate towards other black students and the white students will gravitate towards other white students. But then there is a certain amount of intermingling that goes on. For the black students, outside of their group of friends they are much more likely to encounter white students. For the white students, outside of their group of friends, they are also more likely to encounter other white students. But no tyt, just drive the message home that white people are racist.
90 percent is a high percentage and it’s weird that there’s only two races. Typically it’s 60-65% white, and a good 25% Hispanic and black, with 5-10% being Asian or two races
Self segregation is Human Nature back in the day when a Tribe moved into an Area another Tribe was living in they would literally fight until one was wiped out by the other.
MeinLuciFuhrer TYT is, once again, over compensating for their own drawbacks. They should be the change they want to see. (On a constant basis). Notice the composition of this discussion panel. Dont trip.
WATSONMUTH your obviously a complete imbecile. You understand how big Asia is? From India to Japan Asian food is Amazing. So many different spices and flavours. I'm sure someone of your upbringing thinks a McDonald's burger or kfc is Quality food. But Asian food is up there with Italian and French cuisine . From the ridiculous amounts of Indian curry's and breads to Japanese sushi or Chinese noodles Asian food is some of the best on earth. but like I said someone like you probably prefer some chemically injected Mcslop
Jenkins immigrant parents, somehow i gravitated to asians since they have a large immigrant population, shared experience i guess. Though im talkin Inidians as well, there werent many chinese etc around me
I'm white and I strongly prefer the company of white people. Consciously or not, people overwhelmingly prefer to be around people like themselves. Commonality offers comfort and cohesion.
I understand your comment. We have to look at why people self-segregate. They also do it because the culture they identify with is appealing to them. While I did not lose most of my black friends in spirit, they did not transition with me when my cultural interests changed. As a black visual artist, my circle changed because I didn't do "Black" art. This caused my circle of friends to change and I found myself identifying with a broader vision of creativity. More Eurocenticized to be specific. This led to me being called an oreo and other derogatory names. People should go where they identify culturally and let diversity happen naturally if it is to happen at all. We need more honest comments like yours.
See for me I am black but my parents are wealthy so I grew up in am upper class majority white community. I prefer to be around higher income east coast white people. lol It's a very specific group of people 😂 🤣 but I thought the again metric was wild for black people. I have like 3 again friends right now and in high-school I had at least 9
Moral of the video is, try to make friend with different ethnicities. Most people were raised to hang out with people who are similar to themselves but it doesn't have to be that way.
Have you ever been to the Mid-West? A man might have to drive 100 miles to meet a potential non-white friend! My guess is that if this study was limited to areas that actually have diversity that the numbers wouldn't be anywhere near as bad. Growing up in LA you couldn't have only white friends even if you tried.
In NYC, there could literally be 3 schools in one neighborhood but all three are either mainly black, mainly Latino or mainly white. And they're located very close to each other. Yet NYC is known to be one of the most diverse cities but look at this shit. I'm Hispanic but I always thought i had more in common with white people but they don't approach. But that was my old mentality. Now I know who I gravitate too.
I think the American tradition of categorising people into groups (i.e. African-American, Italian-American) causes this division, if everyone was just 'American' it would be more of a unity, this tradition builds walls instead of bridges.
Wow only 14.3% of Americans are Black ! That surprised me considering all the 'Why no Black people in Oscars' and this 'Why no black friends' bits. I honestly thought it would've been around 30-40%, you guys do whine a lot about inclusion and diversity for being just around 1/8th of a community.
I've found my friends tend to differ quite a bit from location to location. Before highschool I had one Arabic friend, who I didn't actually know was Arabic at the time. In highschool, I had friends of all sorts of colours and creeds. When I moved to Ohio? Not a single non-white friend. New Jersey? I had a few Latino friends, and a bunch of Jamaicans. Now I'm in PA, and I have one Indian friend. I've found location to be a big factor, but language is a bigger one. I've avoided Mexicans when they were speaking Spanish, and never circled around their way again. The same thing happened with some people from somewhere around Russia (I can't tell the accents apart). I've never had an issue with making friends of different races, or religions, but when they speak a different language around me (even if not all the time), I find myself backing away. I have tried learning some languages. I've tried Russian, Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, Dutch, and German. No go. My head's too full of stuff, I need a bigger head.
Can't believe how defensive some people tend to get around this type of stuff. It's not a criticism, it's just a normal social reality, which Ana mentions.
really? I'm white and most of I have a lot of Asian friends. I have one black friend but it's not because of racism... there are barely any black people near where I live! At my high school, out of the two thousand people at my school I only ever saw three different black people there. This study didn't take into account population. Such a bullshit study. People don't buy ice cream less in the winter because they decide ice cream is more gross, they buy ice cream less in the winter because ice cream is cold. Look at all the factors!!!! Ana needs to take a stats class.
***** Ana says she "she knows what she is talking about" when she studies shit but she had to have other people tell her the other factors that effected this study.
+suckmynobs it makes you uncomfortable and if you really want to see real change in this country, you have to get out of your "comfort" zone. You missed the an important part of what they're discussing b/c it set off your nerves a little. People like you is why race relations will never get better. If you don't want to learn and understand these issues, how can you really be for change. You can't ill-informed and expect to make changes.
WHEN U THINK ABOUT IT. BLACK PPL IN TH U.S R AMAZING BCUZ EVEN THO THEY'RE LESS THAN 20% OF THE POPULATION THEY HAVE HAD A BIG INFLUENCE IN AMERICAN CULTURE WITH MUSIC, STYLE AND EVEN FOOD.
I had the privilege of going to a very diverse, majority-minority high school. Race relations were beyond excellent. Still, like groups tended to gravitate to each other socially. There was good interaction and fluidity between groups, but at the end of they day the bunching was pretty obvious. It’s just human nature I suppose.
I have like 10-15 people I talk to regularly and 1 of them is in person... How do you get that many friends? And how do you keep track of their names? Like that's a shit ton of names to remember, I'd never be able to do that. T_T It's like you need a cheat sheet just to keep everyone's names correct. Also, most of my friends aren't in the US. lol
OMG I heard that people with house self segregate from people without them. That people who are doctors self segregate to conferences with other medical professionals only!! I am shocked by these findings!!
Here's some seemingly overlooked facts that might be of use here: 72% of your population are white Americans (64% 'non-hispanic' white). 13% are black Americans. 5% are Asian Americans. 0.9% are Natives. and other racial minorities make up the remaining 9%. I suggest taking more time to re-evaluate the possible cause - like the fact that if I want to make an equal number of 'non-white' friends then I'm going to have to do a LOT of travelling. But I live in Canada and that's not going to happen any time soon unless TYT plans on funding the trip.
So grateful for my school and church. I got a chance to grow up with several different cultures. Feel sorry for those who only stick to their “own kind”
Self-segregation is very prominent, even in highly diverse urban cities. I personally have pushed myself to have a variety of friends and accquaintances because I noticed that kind of division from grade school.... but realistically we can't 'make' people be friends with other ethnicities, so is there any real solution? :O
I cycled Miami to LA a few years ago, im British, one of the first Americans i met in Miami advised me when i check my map, look for Martin Luther King Jr Road/Blvd/Street/whatever, all towns have one, and AVOID that whole area. She didn't never said why, but it quickly became obvious.
I don't care if racial communities self segregate. As long as they don't attack other communities, and as long as there are no interracial hate crimes, I'm happy.
Agreed on most of the points minus the "There's no black people in Turkey." I lived in Izmir for 2 years with my parents, and have been back a few times. That's three people there, and pretty sure we knew other black families...just saying.
Hahah. I like the internewt today. These comments are cracking me up. As for 83 friends... I know possibly 20 persons names at any given time. I am going to count them as of today. One needs to statistically know.
I don't get why this video has so many dislikes. I think people dislike/like video based in there titles and don't even watch the video. Because this panel is actually AGREEING with everyone in this comment sections statements.
Kryojenix Apparently that hasn't changed the attitude of the people in the comment section who are still leaving stupid ass comments. This was probably one of the most healthy discussion of race i have ever seen on a TYT panel.
I'm Asian, I have 3 asian friend, 5 mexican friends, 2 white friends, 4 black friends, and like 5 other friends who are mixed. And most of them I consider to be more like acquaintances: like half from each category.
OMG THIS VIDEO MAKES ME SO MAD BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TALK ABOUT SOMETHING WITHIN THE FIRST 2 MINUTES!! I didn't bother watching the rest of the video, but I am still going to complain about how they didn't talk about it.
I think you are being overly optimistic about humanity. Xenophobia is a naturally occurring thing. It is adaptive to fear the 'other'. I am not supporting Xenophobia as I recognise it has no place in 2016, but I think it will be harder to get rid of than you give it credit for.
Birds of a feather flock together. In my high school, *most* of the black students sat on one side of the cafeteria while everyone else sat on the other side. No one dictated this, people sat where they wanted to sit, and black people chose to sit with their own. (the same went for Asians and Latinos, too but they were far fewer in number)
I always thought I was really weird at my mostly white high school that at lunch the tables are completely segregated. The black kids sat at one row of tables and white students sat at the tables surrounding them... It seems like people just choose to be that way.
Why are there so many dislikes? This video wasn't meant to criticize anyone nor did it. It was completely unbiased and just looked at different viewpoints. Why does race make white people so uncomfortable now when white people created race? This is why we need to talk about stuff like this because a lot white people just don't care. They just dislike the video and move on. If you don't care, why be subscribed to such a progressive channel.
usually im friends with people who i like being around but as it happens i should've been more concerned with their colour. what a bunch of bullshit. if you're friends with someone in order to diversify you're group of friends that seems way more fucked up to me
this whole thing about being around people similar to you, is that most people will see that as: people who are in the same designated group as you (which is not necessarily the best fit, because it's mostly based on arbitrary things that only work to identify and define stereotypical people correctly). The more the society you live in focuses on 'race' to define you as a person, the more your friends will be in the same racial category as you, because we mostly define ourselves by society's standards. My point here is that yes, people do 'self-segregate' in the sense that they will find like MINDED people they can build a community with and work together to thrive, what that has to do with the color of one's skin is something that fails to make sense to me since the effects of this focus on race are not deemed as something positive generally speaking, and clearly it's something we could do without if we'd focus more on other factors that are a little less arbitrary rather than just 'race'. Maybe it's because I don't really fit in well enough with any one particular group to 'bind' myself to that group exclusively, or maybe it's because I'm more kinesthetic than visual in how I process information, but I just don't get why there's so much emphasis on what basically boils down to melanin. What does that have to do with where you'd fit in the best socially (apart from the effect that constantly repeating how much it defines us will be internalized by people) It's ignorant at best and yet some of the brightest people around categorize people in this way. Us humans are a strange bunch...
I question the survey's results. How to they classify "friends?" Does it mean everyone one spends a load of time with? Or actual friends? People have acquaintances, colleagues, clubmates, etc. along with friends. The difference being that the former three can be used as recruitment pools for the last.
Go out there and get a black friend! No, not because that black person and you share any genuine interests, but because it'll make you FEEL better about yourself! Right on!
90 friends?? They must have some really low standards for calling someone a friend. Most people I know are acquaintances that I don't regularly hang out with.
in my experience as an Australian, it's more about culture than race. my non white friends were always of a similar neighbourhood, similar socio-economic background (private school), they all spoke English as their first language, and ate a western diet, and the predominant minority in Aus is Asian, so most of my non white friends were of Asian decent. there are many Asians and other non-whites who stick with their family and friends and their are entire towns that are known as Chinese or Aboriginal Australian or etc areas and they all mainly speak Chinese/etc and go to/run Chinese/etc supermarkets with Chinese/etc signs and there are quite a few people who have lived in Australia for decades and don't speak a link of English - they didn't assimilate, they kept their original culture and language. on the other hand, most non white people I meet who are not in these known areas and surround themselves with white friends are very westernised - they eat a western diet, they speak mainly English, they behave and think very similarly to their white peers - they have assimilated to the western culture and don't display their Asian cultural habits/language/etc. so really, it's not about the colour of their skin, it's about their culture - how they think and feel and react, their language and their behaviour.
If there anything I learn about racism is that literally ANYBODY can be racist, it's not just a white person calling a black person the n-word anymore.
I realized that when I was in the Army. In basic training a couple of white guys said this is the first time I met black people... Everyone was like WTH!
It is a problem when I couldn't sit down with a group of unfamiliar individuals of a different color without pushback. Without suspicion. And it is that way because we were born with those notions of other.
Most friends are family members. I'm Romanian and most of my friends are Romanian. Am I racist? Guess so...
Romanian isn't a race it's a nationality just like American is a nationality.....

I kinda think they used facebook for their data. so it's kinda bullshit
+EvilDrCatfish great point

80-90 friends? How the hell do you trust that many people enough to call them friends.
+naturalbaby maybe they're averaging in Facebook friends?
+naturalbaby These nutts
i see you on the youtube. now youre my friend.
+Sen Loc it's dezz Nutz stupid
It's in an imaginary scenario where everyone has 100 friends. They probably used an average of the percent of friends of each race people have.
Im white and I have no friends. Does that make me racist?
yes according to regressive logic
+robert karas That makes you the absolute worst. /s

that makes you racist against the nothings

@DARKSIDAL facts me too
Who is coming up with this titles??

No go. My head's too full of stuff, I need a bigger head.
wow, this shit is 3 years old, and you guys just bring it up like its a new story
+Nephilim Born HENCE THE CONVERSATION ABOUT SELF-SEGREGATION and the historical context of said study.
***** Ana says she "she knows what she is talking about" when she studies shit but she had to have other people tell her the other factors that effected this study.
***** sorry my opinion offends you.
+Nephilim Born i buy ice cream in the winter
axolotlmytimehas cometoburn cool dude
Lol who cares?
+John Doe you do dummy you clicked on the video
L
+Abby94 I clicked the video to see the like to dislike ratio.
I was not disappointed.
+Matthew Fiedler me too
***** only if you are black i filled the quota on white friends
i love how alot of tyt videos are getting alot of down votes
+suckmynobs yer i was one of the people that downvoted it
+suckmynobs TYT just said that the reason is there are less black people. Come on dude
+Sam Rooney Trump
***** your right, the title is lame. But you can't be nuanced with titles.
I don't have any friends, I talk to myself aloud, I'll take what ever I can get
WHEN U THINK ABOUT IT.
Oh - look at the virtue-signalling of these little regressives. *facepalming*
This kind of journalism is so key to bringing people together.
ana's latino obsession is starting to get kinda weird, and this is coming from a mexican XD
I blame the non whites for not reaching out and trying to be more open and friendly to white people
Do you mean 'three quarters'?
TYT continues to slide. Sloppy presentation and complacent, ill-informed, superficial analysis - Ana a leading offender.
+A Man Agreed. Some videos verging on unwatchable atm.
+Anna W Exactly.
I have like 10-15 people I talk to regularly and 1 of them is in person... How do you get that many friends? And how do you keep track of their names? Like that's a shit ton of names to remember, I'd never be able to do that. T_T It's like you need a cheat sheet just to keep everyone's names correct. Also, most of my friends aren't in the US. lol
A representative group? Nope. Sorry. I'm not buying this one.
OMG I heard that people with house self segregate from people without them. That people who are doctors self segregate to conferences with other medical professionals only!! I am shocked by these findings!!
ZephyrGames I'm mixed & thanks
Here at TYT all we care about is race
Here's some seemingly overlooked facts that might be of use here:
72% of your population are white Americans (64% 'non-hispanic' white).
Fun fact; the state with the most segregation in schools is New York City, and the LEAST segregated place is the South.
so, I'm going to be optimistic AF and say that the lesson here is that we all need more friends. ......
This is where I unsubscribe
So grateful for my school and church. I got a chance to grow up with several different cultures. Feel sorry for those who only stick to their “own kind”
Oh boy the comments are going to be fun!
Is it okay that I'm in love with Francis Maxwell and his accent?
It's already happening.
whos this new british guy ;)
I keep a few black friends around to get around Harlem safely
Man it's so different in Canada. I have 4 close friends plus me, and 1 is brown (including me), 1 is Asian, and two are white.
I don't care if racial communities self segregate. As long as they don't attack other communities, and as long as there are no interracial hate crimes, I'm happy.
It's human nature. People usually want to hang around with their own kind
I love how, even on a well thought out video, as soon as you hint at race you get people flooding in to downvote it.
This is normal, when you look in a public setting you'll see a lot of the friend groups are usually just one race
What type of accent does #ThreePieceSuit have?
Irish
+KyuubiValkyurie
Scottish.
he's Scottish
It's called a free country. I can associate with whom I choose.
People have a 100 friends?!?!
How is that even possible?
I am happy to have 4 friends!
these people are like a breath of fresh air
Agreed on most of the points minus the "There's no black people in Turkey." I lived in Izmir for 2 years with my parents, and have been back a few times. That's three people there, and pretty sure we knew other black families...just saying.
I have lived most of my life in lower-middle income neighborhoods. My friends and neighbors are the melting pot, I am the salt.
Hahah. I like the internewt today. These comments are cracking me up. As for 83 friends... I know possibly 20 persons names at any given time.
I am going to count them as of today. One needs to statistically know.
As soon as I saw that title, I knew the rage would be massive in the comment section.
That's fukt up. That isn't even possible here
I don't get why this video has so many dislikes. I think people dislike/like video based in there titles and don't even watch the video. Because this panel is actually AGREEING with everyone in this comment sections statements.
+pitster110 Looks like they've changed the title too...
Kryojenix
Apparently that hasn't changed the attitude of the people in the comment section who are still leaving stupid ass comments.
It seems like people just choose to be that way.
geee its almost like people make friends based on merit and not color WHAT A REMARKABLE IDEA
This makes so much sense.
A more significant stat from that study is that 8% of Americans say they have no friends :(
I question the survey's results.
Right on!
I feel like 99% of these comments were written before they actually watched the video
People hang out with people who are similar to them. Plain and simple. No need to force diversity for diversity sake.
I'm white and i have no friends. Am i still racist?
90 friends?? They must have some really low standards for calling someone a friend. Most people I know are acquaintances that I don't regularly hang out with.
1st day prison sat in wrong section all by self was approached and had the rules politely explained to me.
in my experience as an Australian, it's more about culture than race. my non white friends were always of a similar neighbourhood, similar socio-economic background (private school), they all spoke English as their first language, and ate a western diet, and the predominant minority in Aus is Asian, so most of my non white friends were of Asian decent. there are many Asians and other non-whites who stick with their family and friends and their are entire towns that are known as Chinese or Aboriginal Australian or etc areas and they all mainly speak Chinese/etc and go to/run Chinese/etc supermarkets with Chinese/etc signs and there are quite a few people who have lived in Australia for decades and don't speak a link of English - they didn't assimilate, they kept their original culture and language. on the other hand, most non white people I meet who are not in these known areas and surround themselves with white friends are very westernised - they eat a western diet, they speak mainly English, they behave and think very similarly to their white peers - they have assimilated to the western culture and don't display their Asian cultural habits/language/etc. so really, it's not about the colour of their skin, it's about their culture - how they think and feel and react, their language and their behaviour.
If there anything I learn about racism is that literally ANYBODY can be racist, it's not just a white person calling a black person the n-word anymore.
Yes Ana, i want to hang out with people who don't like anything i like, that makes sense...
