GHISLAINE FALLOU is the one on the left (the thinner one) at the fist music. (She also appears in the the adagio part at the ending of the other video). The other one is CLAIREMARIE OSTA, now étoile at the Paris Opera.
I love what she is doing at 1:07. It just looks so easy and gracile and everybody who is dancing ballet knows that this is anything but easy. Great video really thanks for posting.
RIP Mme Vaussard. I never met you but since watching this video a couple of years ago I imagine corrections from you in my own class. Thank you for your inspiration and Thank YOU TH-cam.
The last music is "Les deux pigeons" pas de deux, I think. :) Guislaine Fallou is perfect. Even she is very skin, her dance is perfection. I dont see the effort of doing "pointes", I dont see the difficulty of the choregraphie when she dance ; i just see a fairy who is the most gracefull dancer I've ever see.
@fallonhadley i totally agree. It's only a bad thing if they're skinny for the wrong reasons. Dancing eight hours a day, most likely more is not something easy and it will definitely change you physically. They're thin, but you can tell in most cases it's a healthy thin because their faces aren't gaunt and their bodies are still well-proportioned.
@sims23fandballet to enter the school, they don't ask you to dance (i know, because i have had an audition). They will weigh you, mesure you. you need to have a specific weight and height, and have a high arch. The first audition is basically only physical. They test your flexibility. I think that to enter the school, one doesn't even need to know how to dance. Their theory is that if someone has the correct physic then they can teach them the technique.
What a lot of people who make remarks on skinny ballerinas don't realize is that they have to support every bit of their weight on their toes. The less they weigh, the less pressure. Also, with as much movement as dance requires, it's no wonder they're skinny if they're dancing all day long.
ah..I am going to europe this summer and I thought maybe I should try to search about her seeing whether she will perform this summer or not.. but it seems like she has quitted due to anorexia?? It's a pity that she had to quit dancing, coz she's so good at it! I really wish I could see more of her. I have loved her!
I started ballet when I was 12 just make sure you start at a good school that has produced good students! Of course before ballet I did other forms of dance for a year.
How do you mean your friends? the video is very old,i think it was from 1989... the girls featured here already all grown up and out of school. The other girl(our right) is Marie Osta, now an etoile at the paris opera ballet. The one at our left is g.fallou who left dancing quite young because of anoreia and depression.
"Et le haut du corps est très très joli, très souple, beaucoup d'épaulement hein ?! Et un et deux et trois et un et les petits pieds, les petits pieds, les petits pieds, les petits pieds et puis les bras tout comme ça, mâlgré tout bien placé" :D Cette vidéo est magnifique, je ne m'en lasse pas ! :)
Of course they do! They go to school half the time, in the building at Nanterre, so that if they choose to stop dancing they're able to go back to normal life. They work twice as hard as anybody... And some are really good at school!
Many people don't get what ballet means, don't get what it requires and all that dancers need to sacrifice in order to have a career in dance. It is not just about having fun and dancing,it is painful, they took your childhood and transform you in an small adult and it requires and extreme amount of discipline. Is way harder than the majority of sports and it requires a certain physic that if you don't have it,its pointless to take dance lessons expecting to have a career as ballet dancer.
It looks like it was aired in TV in 1987. I also learned that Ghilaine Fallou had to give up her career when he was première danseuse at the age of 28. What a pity but at least she 'enjoyed' her career as a dancer at least f'or 14 years! I'm sure George Balanchine would have lover her.
@Heartlessiceboy I'm sorry to hear that "they took your childhood". Of course at the beginning it's for sure not really a conscious choice, but for sure you had a choice to live your childhood and keep it, instead of dancing and make sacrifices. Don't regret. Everything that's happens to us, we invited it in our life.
They are careful about what they eat, especially at school where most students are in internship. The breakfast is quite consistent, with eggs, sausages, and so on (because of proteins). For lunch they can't eat too much because the ballet classes are in the afternoon. Finally for diner, they eat normally, but it's always balanced. And they also have nutrition lessons.
I totally agree with you! And when I said that "they are careful about what they eat", I meant that even the monitors in the canteen watch out if they eat enough. Of course it is always possible to manage to hide food, but trust me it's not so often. And the ambition of all the students here is to be accepted in the corps de ballet of POB, so they know they have to be healthy for a long period.
Haha no. The ones in pink are Marie Oska and Ghislaine Fallou. The ones in lilac are Aurelie Dupont and some other dancer. This was taken back in the 80s.
These girls are so talented and graceful :) ! Does anybody know which song is played at the piano during the first lesson with Christiane Vaussard (when we see Ghislaine Fallou) ?? Thanks by advance :)
Admire them! Anyone know where to buy this video? I went to Amazon and I found this video on "Etoiles - Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet". Is this the correct video I'm looking for? Thanks for your help!
I would like to know the reason (if there's one), why there are just 2 girls doing the exercises? Are they the only ones in their level or is it just for the video?
I read somewhere that G.fallou (the girl in pink, on our left, right?) suffered from anorexia, but later became the lead dancer of the Paris opera! Is this true?
@Malon4Ever That doesn't mean the ballerinas executed the steps as well; like I said, ballet has become much more competitive. Also, society's image of beauty has changed since then - rounder girls were considered beautiful then, skinnier girls are now. Besides that, skinnier girls do have an easier time of it overall. Less pressure on their own bodies as well as those of their partners. There can be amazing dancers with all body types, but to get ahead today a dancer must be slim and muscular.
amazingsoter, how can you identify Clairemarie Osta? I can barely tell any features about the dancer's face. The POB website says that she entered POB school just a year before her first year in the company, so this taping would have to have been that year, or her graduating year.
if the 'cool' people say that its boring and stuff- thay know NOTHING about ballet! at the beginning of this year half my class thought that a pirouette was just twirling around with your finger in your head! they know different now though...
+Emilly Nascimento She's mostly counting (" one and two, and one and two ... voilà ! one and two, one and two, (...)"). Or maybe you wanted to know what Jacqueline Moreau says ?
gordon ackerman Don't be rude. I hear words but I can't understand what she's saying and there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody's obligated to understand everything other person says. It's so difficult to find people with empathy these days...
Absolutely loved the young girls in pink, the choreography and especially the music...what was that? How talented!
GHISLAINE FALLOU is the one on the left (the thinner one) at the fist music. (She also appears in the the adagio part at the ending of the other video). The other one is CLAIREMARIE OSTA, now étoile at the Paris Opera.

Am I only one who watches this to make me feel bad so I can work harder
Veronica Reed not the only one !
Oh, such beautiful dancers! My pointe teacher took the excersizes from this and had us do them in class!
OMG i absolutely love the first exercise it makes me wanna put on my pointe shoes and start dancing!!!!!
Anrelie BRAVO ! :)
The last music is "Les deux pigeons" pas de deux, I think. :)

I love all these exercises! They are so musical, I'd love to have a crack at 'em!
Amazing Ecole del'Opera de Paris !! Thank you King Louis XIV for this gift to human civilization !!! ♡♡♡

A lot of them smoke to keep the weight down, however. Its not great.
to be half as good as them would be a miracle for me! they are so fantastic!! and even though they are thin, they don't look stiff at all! brilliant.
ah..I am going to europe this summer and I thought maybe I should try to search about her seeing whether she will perform this summer or not.. but it seems like she has quitted due to anorexia?? It's a pity that she had to quit dancing, coz she's so good at it!

Paris Opera School, hear the french... Yes. One of the best schools in the world, if not the best.
they are sooo good !!
I started ballet when I was 12 just make sure you start at a good school that has produced good students! Of course before ballet I did other forms of dance for a year.

Mythique !
Ghislaine Fallou and Delphine Baey are two of my fav. dancers. too bad I can't find any other vids of them!!!!!
This is a OPB's documentary. It made in 1980, I download it on emule (sorry for my english! I'm italian)
but..I love her look!! I think she looks long and very pretty. I also like her dance style.
Of course they do! They go to school half the time, in the building at Nanterre, so that if they choose to stop dancing they're able to go back to normal life. They work twice as hard as anybody... And some are really good at school!
they are very beautiful and excellent dancers!
wow they are sooo perfect...
What is the music at the begging of this video? Absolutely love it!
How can I see more Ghislaine Fallou video? I understand that she left the Paris Opera long, long time ago, but I would like to see more of her.
In the beginning, the girl to the right is Clairemarie Osta.

they are amazing!!
J'adore!
Trop beau!
elles sont toutes si belles

do you think this is what they do all day and stuff? like, do they go to school?
ghislaine fallou (left) et claire marie osta (right)
@Malon4Ever That doesn't mean the ballerinas executed the steps as well; like I said, ballet has become much more competitive. amazingsoter, how can you identify Clairemarie Osta? I can barely tell any features about the dancer's face. The POB website says that she entered POB school just a year before her first year in the company, so this taping would have to have been that year, or her graduating year.

somenone please can type what Christiane Vaussard says till 0:34 in french?
+Emilly Nascimento She's mostly counting (" one and two, and one and two ... voilà ! one and two, one and two, (...)"). Or maybe you wanted to know what Jacqueline Moreau says ?
i don't know, it's the first woman, i think her name is Christiane Vaussard. I love the way she talks
Yeah, the first teacher talking is Christiane Vaussard !
She is saying nothing whatsoever. She is counting, You don't hear words, do you?
gordon ackerman Don't be rude. I hear words but I can't understand what she's saying and there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody's obligated to understand everything other person says. It's so difficult to find people with empathy these days...
La merveilleuse et regrettée Ghislaine Fallou
the studio looks darn big. and this video looks ancient man.
Yes, is it
