DC native here--the advice here is spot-on. If you come to DC around the Cherry Blossom Festival, July 4th, or any major government event, prepare to pay a premium and deal with crowds.
When we went in 2019, we stayed out in Fairfax and took the metro into town every day. The Fairfax terminal has TWO parking garages. Saved a ton of money over what it would have cost to stay closer to the mall.
It really did, said at a nice Best Western that had a great breakfast buffet and we just drove to the Metro terminal ourselves, all bets are off if you don't have a car while you're there
If you're a tourist food is going to be a big expense. Try to get a hotel that has free breakfast or brunch. Most food you're going to find around the tourists sites are food trucks.
Nice video Mark and great that you are bigging up Rob from Trip Hacks DC, he is by far the best you tuber for all things DC, his trip hacks dc channel is well worth checking out if planning to visit 👍
D.C. has been on our must visited list for over a decade, but Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, have gotten on the way. One of these years. Good tips too.
We have been twice to Washington, and we really were happy for the underground services. But, second time it was in summer, and it was just too hot. Next time I really would come in spring or autumn again.
I did a food on foot tour in New York- the tour guide was amazing on the places he took us and food was awesome. We also got a history on the place and area. Is there anything similar in DC?
Something that is also really great about the metro is that you can usually get a day pass for the metro for around $12. It sounds a little expensive but if you are going to be using the metro all day to go to places in Maryland and Virginia, then it’s worth it for sure (not if you have a lot of family with you maybe)
Hello fellow travelers! I have a question regarding car hire prices in the US, is it only my impression or these are very high in comparison to pre-covid times?
The next time I am in WDC, I will just eat where I am for lunch, such as museum cafes, food trucks, etc. Dinner is takeout from a restaurant or a grocery store. I always stay in Virginia so there are places to go. I usually stay at a hotel that has a breakfast included. There are ways to get around the high cost.
oh you can spend $$ fast in this town (esp Georgetown) my security team spent $3,000 in 1 night just on food , booze and umm lady friends at 1 of the upscale umm "dance club " and then at 1 of the clubs lol. Deff going around with someone who knows the area is the best thing to do to find the cheap eats. the Mall is great but can be very mobbed at times.
For the most part, tours are useless. You won't remember 99% of the information. It is a better investment to buy a good guide book. The book well stay in your library and will be useful for years to come

Thank you Allison

Hi, I am an incoming international student to George Washington university, which area would you suggest renting?

People should factor in metro cost. It's probably more than you think from the remote stops.
@@denisefromdc1796 compared the cost of parking in DC or staying closer, it was a huge bargain.
Thanks Mark! Even we locals need reminders.
Cheers!

D.C in the summer time is not for the faint of heart

One day you will get here! :)

I rememember my first summer trip to DC... it was miserable with all that heat
So true! Summers here are miserable. We have brief shoulder seasons, but they are indeed brief!
The opposite happened to me. Im going next week and am paying double the price I paid last year for a still nice, but not as nice hotel
I did a food on foot tour in New York- the tour guide was amazing on the places he took us and food was awesome. We also got a history on the place and area.

I would highly recommend Fogo de Chao when visiting DC!
The grill from Ipanema in Adams Morgan is better, cheaper, and more authentic

Thank you! I want to do to DC but flights and hotels are so expensive!
seriously look at staying out a bit and take the metro in
Hello going to dc next wk, what’s the name of the French restaurant u went to if u don’t mind sharing?
Hello fellow travelers! I have a question regarding car hire prices in the US, is it only my impression or these are very high in comparison to pre-covid times?
Yes they sre higher and harder to get
Thank you🙏
you are very welcome
Who wants to walk all over the place? The best way to get around I feel is an Escooter.

The best tip to saving money in DC is by not coming to DC.
And just watch TH-cam 😂
