This is a video dance presentation with a maximum duration of 3 minutes, performing any PHILIPPINE FOLK DANCE. PASIKAT NA BASO (synopsis)
This very colorful and spectacular skill dance originated from the barrios in Pangasinan. “Pasikat” means to show off and “baso” means drinking glass.
The dance is composed of seven (7) basic parts that include the introduction, the kinewetan, the pasikat of the male and the female, and the saludo.
Historical origin would say that this dance was very popular among farmer-peasants who perform this dance to display good balance and graceful movements and to show off their unusual skills in balancing glasses that contain water or cocktailed native drinks (native wine) on their foreheads and hands while atop a bench.
During special occasions like weddings or baptismal parties, a pair of dancers would show their skill in manipulating the glasses, particularly in turning, exchanging places, kneeling, and rolling over on top of the bench without spilling the water or dropping the glasses and without falling from the bench. The audience will then have a heart-stopping moment as they watch dancers do their pasikat.
