    Tim, those little deflectors work really well for working with heat shrink connectors. I used to work on wire harnesses and these connectors work really well. I think DeWalt makes a heat gun with these pieces sold with it. They're definitely worth buying if you need to repair wires on you tractor or other machines as well.

    I have peanut butter jars and Mayo jars hanging on the ceiling of my shop. I just screwed the lid to the rafters and fill them with whatever bolts I use. Plus tons of other stuff.
    They are free and upcycled, plus they don't take up wall space. You can see through them and label them so if empty you can stop at the hardware store to refill. 👍👍

    I found the strap to load calculation interesting. I've always used straps at each end that add up to more than the load since when accelerating or slowing only one end is under tension.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not acceptable. The simplification I made in the calculation only works with 4 straps.
      Check into the FMCSA calculations to be sure. I do not claim to be an expert.

    • @jamesshotwell810
      @jamesshotwell810 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd still check the FMCSA green book but any wheeled or tracked vehicle over a certain weight requires 4 corner securement. I've got a comment describing how direct vs indirect securement works.

  • @dangerrangerlstc

    I have the ISO Tunes Pro at work. Love them. Super long battery life (mine last about 16 hours on one charge) and they work as hearing protection when using power tools. I can vary the amount of hearing protection too depending on how far I push them in my ears. That way I can still hear people talk to me even with them in my ear. They come with a zip up pouch to hold them and the different size foam plugs.

    Minor point from a open deck operator. Direct securement halves the wll. So your 4400 lbs becomes 2200. That said DOT only requires half the weight of the load secured. Indirect securement (going from one side of the trailer over or through the load to the other side) gives the full WLL.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, you are correct. However, I am simplifying it for our viewers. Direct tie down on the 4 corners has very simple math. Add up WLL of the 4 tie downs. That is the amount you can secure.
      This is due to the rules you state above.
      My math approach just makes it simpler.

    The bolt kit is pretty cool. Are used to go to Rural King and just grab a bunch of grade 8 and zinc coated bolts. I found it was easiest just to store them by thread size not length. I would have several lengths of the same thread size in the same bin. I still had to do a little sorting to find exactly what I needed but it was very easy to figure out where it would be. So I have five eights ranging from an inch to four or 5 inches and have five or six of each in there so if I needed oneIt would be in there if I didn’t have it then I would grab a longer one and cut it if absolutely necessary. Another neat idea I just thought I would be to weld or JB weld a nut on the outside so if you weren’t sure what size your boat was and weren’t good at judging you could screw it in and have five eights or whatever the size was written with that bolt or get a thread engage and hang it from the side of your rack or your bins. Then I did nuts sort of the same way. I did the mainly by size except when it came to nylock, Then I just put all the Nylok in a couple of bins with big ones and little ones. Long before I ever had bins I just bought big bags of them and I keep all of one size bolt in a big bag and then dump it out find what I need to dump it back in the bag. Are used to also keep spare socket with bolts so I didn’t have to go digging through sockets and just had some there quickly, but I didn’t always put them back correctly so you have to be a little careful with that. Lol

    The rear heat shields work well Tim! We've used similar Solderseals (but much more expensive I'm sure) for years to wire aircraft mods in the Air Force. TIP: You can also cheat and mold some aluminum tape as a make-shift scoop around the other side of the Solderseal to direct the heat on the back side of the connector; if you don't have a defector. Also, see if you can find a smaller nozzle for your heat gun. It will help focus the heat more on the connector and not overheat & melt your wire insulation. You can also use the aluminum tape as a shield to protect the wire or things that you don't want heated. Thanks for the great gift ideas Tim! Another great video 👍

  • @reno4819
    @reno4819 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The wrap around heat shield on the heat gun is very useful. It helps get heat around what you want to get hot and shields it from other items you don't want to get hot. Only problem is that it tends to deflect heat out the sides which n.v usually means your fingers get a bit toasty.
    I've had that steering wheel spinner for many many years and yes it works very well. Never slips.
    Cheers!

    10:24 no magnets if you knock them off good luck. typically doesn't happen, but there is always that one kid who is going to play with them and they will ruin your day LOL. just the generic paper stickers. i mix bolts and nuts of 2 radically different sizes so you can't confuse them 1/4" 1/2" 3/4" 1" same with the 16ths, the 8ths, 32nds if your crazy you can go halfsies 1/2" and 1". metrics i go by 5's so 5mm 10mm 15mm 20mm 25mm then 6mm 11mm 16mm 21mm..you get the idea, radically different but patterned to make sense save time and speed up the search. if you really have time when you get new ones color code them with cheap spray paint when you see a blue on a bolt you can go to your blue spot painted bin and find a matching nut or quickly acquire a new replacement/additionals so my 5mm's would be blue, my 6mm's red, my 7mm's green, my 8mm's purple etc. bolts, washers, nuts, washers and lock washers mixed together. you get the idea. another way to label them is to take the manufacturers label cut it out of the box and just packing tape it on over the bin slot. razor knife them off on each side of the cardboard to reorganize if you want. K.I.S.S. no dumb label printers, no magic markers, no pencils/pens/crayons, and for godsake if your using barcodes some one needs to bury you in a shallow grave!

The plastic seem to break down when exposed to the weather, but certainly a time saver when the valve has 24 to 40 turns open to close. Well worth the money. Tim you might use a red marker on your metric bolts plastic bags and blue on the standard bolt bags.

    I bought a set of the deck stands. Makes storage of the mower deck a snap.

    Great ideas. I got the Smart Connector last Christmas. It's pretty cool. Also got a couple of the Knipex pliers. And for this Christmas a pair of the Ariat Pants. Oh and everyone needs a set of big old monster size wrenches.

    Couldn't agree more on the solder-seal connectors...I pretty much use them exclusively when the application permits. QUESTION: Can you recommend a video that shows the Cargo Buckles being used...I definitely like the look of those! Plus, I need to see if Kubota has a similar Bluetooth dongle. Lots of great ideas...great video! Happy Thanksgiving and have a great Holiday season TTWT family!

    Thanks for the great ideas. I have TWO sets of the Isotunes and I let them know it was your recommendation that convinced me to get them. I'm very happy with them both, I keep a set in my barn and truck. What size Knipex pliers are you using, I like the size but they offer so many I wanted to get the same size.

    I’m pretty sure there are other retractable ratchets out there now where you don’t have to deal with trying to add chains or hooks to

      These are the best. …in my opinion.
      CargoBuckle offers a tail for theirs as well, but I don’t care for it.

    I have learned something new every time you do this. I really like the looks of those electrical connectors.
    Darn Mud's is sold out of the deck brackets. I have tried different things for my X738 60HC deck for several winters now. Last winter I put lifting slings under the deck before I disconnected. Then picked it up with pallet forks on the 2025R and set it on one of the scaffolds like you used for this video. Thanks for that Menards black Friday tip a few years ago. I should look into the loader deck brackets again.
    I recently saw snow blower caster brackets at the Green Parts Store. I've been using lots of furniture carts for implements.

    Such a good/bad influence, Tim ! Lol
    Just ordered the the Mudds custom deck kit. Have the big wheel kit currently and don't care for them. None locking, rolls easy, but a hassle to turn. Forget name. Could’ve sworn I saw it on one of your videos too. 😂

      Only thing I have shown is the deck dolly….a large hand truck type dolly to pick up your deck for storage.

    You’ve succeeded once again Tim! I back ordered the Mudd’s Customs mower deck stands. I have the Load-N-Go because of you already…(Yes, I love it!!!). I know that you love being accused of spending other people’s money, but I sincerely appreciate the TTWT discount!! Keep up the great work Tim and Christy!
