R.I.P. Let's not forget about Charles Kimbrough, Mary Kay Bergman and Mary Wickes (the voices of Victor, Quasimodo's mother/Djali and Laverne). They passed away as well.
Thank you so much for uploading these treasures! I wanted to see the workprint of Hellfire for years! It is awesome! And I enjoy the subtle differences between the early and the final version, but they add so much and give different perception of the song. For sure, my favourite moment of this song is "Or else let her be mine and mine alone!" - and how the early and the final version show this sequence. In the early version it is the blatant lust, the carnal desire, mad obsession, because Frollo moves to Esmeralda's smoke spirit as a predator and tries to grab her exactly as a predator tries to catch and grab its prey, as well as Esmeralda here is depersonalized and... dead, she just flies and then disappears, she is just an image, not something alive, just a body instead of living person. In contrast to this, in the final version the scene hits differently - Frollo simply walks to her with open arms, as well as Esmeralda's spirit flies to him with open arms and tenderly touchs his face, so he tries to hug her, but she disapperas, so he looks at it with sadness, so I even wonder, what would happen, if the soldier didn't notify him about Esmeralda's escape. This version is more subtle and ambiguous, because although there's still clear answer "He's the dangerous and irredeemable stalker and murderer", it leaves clear impression that Frollo wanted to be loved by her (exactly in terms of feelings and platonic side) the way he is (even though it is impossible, 'cause in Esmeralda's eyes he is a monster, a murderer, a tormentor and embodiment of unnatural death). It shows the sadistic, racist, narcissistic, ruthless, fanatical, hypocritical and deluded sociopath from different side - as a lonely and lost person, who doesn't understand his own feelings and hence is afraid of them and despises them, and who through his narrow, sick and twisted worldview (Romani= evil demons, so there's no love, only spell or whatever) corrupts initially pure and sincere feeling (falling in love) toward the brave and kind young girl into sinful and disgusting act (possessiveness and wrath), erasing any chance for alternative. Same with his tiny hesitations and some kind of regret, when he burns Esmeralda's scarf and says "God have mercy on her...". His lines "Why I see her dancing there? Why her smoldring eyes still scorch my soul?" kinda hint that he never experienced these feelings, they are not familliar for him, he can't understand, accept and control it, so it only makes his anger on himself and especially on Esmeralda stronger and more destructive.
Frollo was a villain to the third power. He truly believed Esmerelda was evil and was corrupting him, yet hypocritically attempted to coerce her into being his dirty little secret.
It frustrates me that these laser disc demos were left out of the Legacy Collection soundtrack for The hunchback of Notre Dame. They did include 1 set of demos for Heavens Light and Hellfire which had slightly different lyrics to the laser disc demos. So I think it would have been good for them to have included both versions as they are both awesome. Plus So long as there’s a moon.
Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is my favorite Disney movie ever Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame an amazing Disney movie about the music and Disney animation
6:40 Isn't it crazy terrifying that in the storyboard, Esmeralda burns in the fireplace, then she quickly dies before her smokey ghost starts flying out to Frollo. In the final film, she just disappears as if by magic, then her ghost comes out.
I’m sure I read somewhere that they were told to tone the Esmeralda parts of hellfire down or the song would have to be cut from the movie entirely or something like that

Hopefully Notre Dame will be fixed
When Frollo kicked Quasimodo's mother and she fell and hit her head (or snapped her neck) on the steps and died on the spot, I didn't see any blood.
Alas even 90s disney only goes so far
thank you for continuing to upload this! I hope you'll be able to reupload part 2 someday
i should. The multi language/trailers reel will probably have to be cut because i think that's the source of the copyright strike :(
Thank you! please reupload in whatever form you can.
