Sharon White - Vocals and Guitar Ricky Skaggs - Harmony and Mandolin Jerry Douglas - Dobro Russ Barenberg -guitar Michael Doucet - Fiddle Danny Thompson - bass
Again I will say, this group knocked this song out of the park. Everyone in it performed perfectly. It seems that it had every instrument made woven into the song. You don't get tired listening to it.
She sure has a beautiful voice, and this is a GREAT bluegrass version of Hank's song. If you have more of Sharon singing the old country songs, please post. Thank you.
Though this song was written and made famous by Hank Williams and has been covered by many other men, I think its more appropriately performed by a woman. So I really love this video. The song on its surface is about a traditional heartbreak, but I believe its more than that - its Williams' plea to a God he feels has abandoned him. He couldn't say it plainly, so he dressed it up in words his audience could accept. I beleive he'd be very pleased to hear White singing it.
@@jorgen-55 If I had said it WAS the best song on U-Tube, many, many people would have responded with their opinion of their best song. Now I can say, it is the best song. I play this song more than any other, and I have over 650 songs on my liked list.
Marie, she has worked on the Grand Ole Opry for several years with her dad and sister as "The Whites". I have always loved her singing. I just knew you would like this one. Take care my friend and have a wonderful weekend. Mike
I never heard Sharon White before: she has a marvelous voice. I put this to my faves. Mike Thank you so much for sharing, you KNOW what I like :-)Have a great day, Marie
That's Danny Thompson - I've now updated details. He is a very famous player and featured on the first 2 series of these sessions. His "CV" is as long as your arm and he had a close musical and personal friendship with John Martyn - who also featured on Transatlantic Sessions.
The talent in this room is so far superior to lamestream country that is force fed everyone on radio stations today. None could carry these people's instruments for them.
Fred Rose gave Hank 15 minutes to write a song at his interview. This is it. Ray Price and Faron Young recorded this a few years ago and its super with a piano as the lead instrument.
Just a Great Performance - Pitch Perfect with great musical back-up. Hank is looking down from above and smiling and saying, “Now this is how it should be done” !!
I love this version of the song. Sharon and Ricky and Sharon's Dad and Sister are all great performers. They put so much soul in their music. Wonderful stuff!
Sharon sings from the heart. She did a great job on this great Hank Wliams song. And the musicians On this Shaon's husband, Jerry Douglsd and others some of the best in Nashville. This is my kind Of music. Give us more of this and less of the new Country Southern Rock.
This is one of my favorite songs, one that I have song many time in my seventy one year of life, Hank William was one of the greatest songster and poets. He had so many beautiful lyrics.
Sharon White gives a great performance. I notice that she is accompanied by renown fiddler Michael Doucet from Louisiana, plus the excellent Jerry Douglas on steel guitar. On top of that, her husband Ricky is a prize-winner on mandolin.
This song reminds me so much of my sister. After 51 years together she has cut me out of her life because of the piece of trash she married. He has brought her nothing but shame and aggrevation. Please God, she is the only sister I will ever have. I miss her more than you will ever know. Let her see, that I love her and only want what's best for her.
Very pretty, I love all of the instruments on here and she does a beautiful job singing. May God Bless U. I give U 5*****. Love that fiddle playing, dobro and mandolin. Darlene
You can see them enjoy in what they are doing and I thank them for it, because now I can always come back and enjoy more of it. Thxs for sharing. 14.2.2017.
This may be the best version of this song I have ever heard and all the musicians are probably the best in the world. Every word and note played for our and there enjoyment. Wonderful thank you.
Maribo...let me give you some songs she's done (some with Ricky and some with Cheryl and Buck). Love Can't Ever Get Better Than This (With Ricky) Pins and Needles, You Put The Blue In Me, Another Soldier Down, Fall Down Children (amongst others)(with cheryl and buck).
Country music sure does exist - just not on mainstream radio. The real country music fans are irrelevant to the mass media. However, that's okay, because mainstream radio is totally irrelevant to me. I search out the good stuff and there's lots there, but you gotta look hard sometimes.
hi TomT, thanks for posting this video, this woman is awesome. best version of this song I ever heard. PS saw your "highwayman" video too. I was there that night in Aberdeen. what a show. love the old style country.
Must of been something to have been at these Transatlantic sessions. I love this video and love watching Danny Thompson I watched the video of him playiing with John Martyn and Kathy Mattae, May you never , this alone would make you feel as high as a kite. Would love to be able to buy all these sessions on DVD ! are they available
Great song and great singing !! She sounds a lttle bit like Kitty Wells, who sang this song too. Sharon has a natural and dynamic soft voice, I could listen to this all day long! Thank you for posting :)
Altho I love Hank Williams songs, I will have to say, Sharon really gave Hank a run for his money on this song, she sung it without a flaw. The more you hear it, the more you want too. Between this performance and Hank's version, I'm afraid you would have to flip a coin.
Just updated (including tags) - thanks for pointinh that out. Unfortunately - there are a few other uploads I need to update sometime. As I'm sure you know - I do appreciate Russ's playing and saw him live earlier this year. He featured on all 3 series of Transatlantic sessions.

Every instrument player here is an expert in his field especially the Fiddler who undoubtedly displayed the Einsteinian habit of a genius.
AMEN Bob and Nicer People You'll not find anywhere.
Awesome song, Ricky Scaggs and his wife Sharon ❤
She sure has a beautiful voice, and this is a GREAT bluegrass version of Hank's song. If you have more of Sharon singing the old country songs, please post. Thank you.

Pure perfection Mr Hank Williams smiling from Heaven

Sharon is a truly underrated singer. Beautiful lady, beautiful voice. Ranks with Kitty Wells among the traditional country singers.
I agree with you a great lady .5******* .
I agree
Be careful Comparing to Kitty Wells or Patsy Cline she is good and has credentials but before type names remember who you are comparing her to....😊
When You see the Musicians close their eyes and loose themselves in the Music You know it's good.
You got it right Mike
Always good to see musicians lose themselves in the music.
Wow - now that Lady can really sing that tune the way it should be sung. Beautiful!

Best version of Mansion, not to mention the fiddle and accordion
This must be from back in 80s or so. Beautiful vibrato in her voice.

What an awesome job an a great old hank Williams Sr. song.
A strong vocal performance by Sharon White. Pity that she do not appear more on TH-cam. All the musicians in this ensemble are of high quality.
Wao wao wao I love that song from northeast India
The turnarounds are great with all the different instruments, and each artists knowing what he is doing.
One of the folk legends is that Fred Rose gave Hank Williams the assignment to come up with a new song and this is it.
Played this Song on auto rewind when I was withdrawing, it helped, been super clean years and years- 30 years, its a blessing
Sharon loved her music you can hear it in her beautiful voice.

Wonderful song....great musicians. Nice to see Jerry Douglas. 🇨🇦
Their whole hearts + souls were put into this song! Amazing!
Well the Buck White trio are seasoned country performers. With Ricky Skaggs (Sharon's hubby) this is a hard act to follow. True entertainers. mos60
Sharon White gives a great performance. I notice that she is accompanied by renown fiddler Michael Doucet from Louisiana, plus the excellent Jerry Douglas on steel guitar. On top of that, her husband Ricky is a prize-winner on mandolin.

Havent heard any music by Sharon, but boy they nailed this one.
Each of Buck White’s daughters and granddaughters can hold their own vocally! This was just one incredible example! 1/5/23
