Starting the rebuild of the Oldsmobile 8.5 inch rear end. This video includes the full teardown of the rear end to prepare for the new gears and Posi unit.
There are 12 bolts on the back cover, but only 10 bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier, so most people consider it a 10 bolt...Oldsmobile just being different
these videos are awesome. I have the exact rear end in my 68 cutlass and I want to upgrade to a posi as well. what was the brand and model of the posi unit you installed?
I used this kit for the Posi Unit and gears - www.ronsmachiningservice.net/gear-posi-packages/general-motors/gm-olds-o-axle/gm-8-5-olds-o-axle-3-42-ring-pinion-28-spline-posi-gear-pkg/
Sounds like you're on the right track. We can't all start with a pristene W30 convertable.
Damnskippy!So far so good!
