- My big goal this year was to focus more on reading what I already have and to reduce the number of books I was taking in. Now it's time to see how I did!

Awesome! 🥳 this challenge is so good! And congrats on reading so many of your owned books!
@@FineReads Definitely making progress!
I so admire the shelf discipline!! I have zero but need to work on it desperately
@@BooksWithBenghisKahn 'Shelf Discipline' 🤣 I love that so much
~50% is not bad! And a 500 book collection is mighty impressive. Good going, Niko!
My own ratio is probably closer to 95% or something, but only because I tend to buy books physically if I've read and loved the ebook / audio version first :P
@@ZOMGfantasy I wish I was that disciplined lol, but to be fair I was a 100% physical reader for most of my life, so buying books to read them was always normal to me
@nikosbookreviews Honestly, the discipline was born of necessity by living in a small apartment! Now that I've moved... We'll see how long it takes to fill these bookshelves I ordered 🤣
Those numbers sound pretty impressive to me!! Proud of you for dnfing - it can be hard.
I started 2024 at 276 owned and unread and am kicking off 2025 at 214! (This includes all my new books i got over the holidays) 3-4 more years at this pace and i'll no longer be in the red! :)
@@CD287- DNFing has definitely been hard to do more, but man am I happier not forcing myself through things! That sounds like impressive numbers on your side as well!
@nikosbookreviews i've set my reading goal at 3.5 star average (failed in 2024 at 3.18) - this has helped me justify a lot of dnfs. I do a fair bit of research before i make it official sometimes (read non-spoiler gr reviews) because i suffer from fomo.
I got my shelves to 100% but it forced me to read a lot of books I just wasn’t in the mood for and I ended up having a pretty bad reading year because of it. Glad to be back to buying books and just reading whatever I want.
@@alexsedai That's the plus side of having way too many books already lol, I have a lot of variety to pick from 🤣
@ Haha very true
I tend to get wrapped up in my library books and neglect the books I own because they don't have a return date. So my plan for 2025 is to read 75% or more books that I own.
I barely make it to my library because I feel bad reading those books when I have so many I need to get to lol, so I feel that!
I don't own very many physical books - I mostly just buy special editions for the books I love. BUT... my Kindle library is out of control. I've been trying to focus on completing series so I'll continue with that in 2025.
@@jenniferobin7260 I'm definitely glad to that I ended up loving my Kindle, because being able to get digital copies definitely helps vs. only physical like I used to! Completing series is always a great goal, I definitely have plenty of those to do as well lol
I'm OCD....for real...so I don't own anything I haven't read, and I don't buy more until I read what I already have. I have only one book that I haven't read, and it's also because I'm very superstitious....it a book by Owl Goingback(think that's the name) , and I was reading it , and my Mother was put in the hospital when I started it, and I put it down, and never read it again. Outside of that one....I've read everything I own.
@@jamesfetcho6315 Hey that's a great way to do it! I tend to buy way too many books I want to read vs. have already read
watched this video assuming you'd say what your favorites were. lol why do I care what percentage of books you've read?
I mean... literally the video I posted right before this is a top 10 of the year if that's what you're looking for lol, this is very specifically an update for those that wanted it based on the video about this from the beginning of the year
@ i stand corrected
