not just exposure delay mode available, great start, but a better coarse of action is the "silent photography" mode, as this uses a totally shake free electronic rear curtain shutter, and turns the mechanical one 'off'- actually uses mirror-up mode + shutter open, and turns the sensor on/off to take the image, NO loss of pixels, as I am lead to believe. also one great macro tool is a 'focus rail" this focuses the image by moving the camera unit, not the lens, as when in macro the lens focus/ zoom affects the magnification ratio, like on a bellows; so you HAVE to move the whole set-up to focus.

Thanks! Which focal length work best from your experience with extension tube?

If you turn off autofocus and use focus peaking, macro photos are much easier

Thanks for making this video, I hadn't heard of this product before, ordered from Amazon. I have to try it!

Have fun with it - it's not often in the photography world that a product as reasonably priced as this can open up a whole new world of shooting possibilities.

Thanks for the video. Do you think this could be used to copy 35mm slides?

I haven't tried so I am not certain but I would lean towards no.

The question is the quality with tubes better or worse than using a very good apochromat +5 lense, for example on the 1.8 85mm lense?

Thank you for the comment. Likely not but the real point is that someone can get started with macro photography for a very small amount of money.

Thank you for this video. How was the image resolution? Did you compare the results to the Nikon 105mm F2.8 Micro lens with the FTZ adapter? I would be curious which setup would produced better results.

Hi and thanks for commenting... this video was to show that you can do macro on the cheap as a good way to get started. Since the 105 does not fit into cheap :-) it wasn't included.

i switched to a NikonZ6II and use the nikon 105mm F2.8 with a FTZ and it is still great. myself, i can't shoot out of hand on macro with the 105, so tripod is needed. for macro out of hand i stay with the 24-200mm Z on 200mm. but it is less macro than the 105. so 105F on ftz with a nikon Z body, is certainly more affordable above buying a new macro Z lens ;)

Great video, thanks! I just grabbed these yesterday, can’t wait to try them out! I’m impressed with the sample images I’ve seen.
My question is, how do extension tubes compare to an actual macro lens? I will say - the insect images I see that impress me the most are taken using extension tubes.
I have the upcoming 50 Micro (or the 105 S Micro, depending on price) on my wish list. Maybe they’re not needed 🤷🏻‍♂️
Lastly - I’m wondering if the Z6/7 focus stacking feature would work well with these? I need to experiment with that.

I don't think we can compare an actual macro lens. The macro lens should be much better. But this is a cheap alternative and a great way for people to get started with macro.

Thank you for sharing this video. Just one question: did you try focus stacking with meike tubes? ... I mean the Z6 focus shift shooting available in z6 menu. Does it work properly? It should if comunication between camera and lens is good. Does it need a delay between each shot? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Can a 36mm Meike tube be used with NikonZ 105mm for Macro and with Nikon ES-2

I bought these October 2019 and have used them many times with various lenses, native and non-native. They actually work well, and I have zero complaints with them. No substitute for a real macro lens, though, of course.

    • @ShutterSpeak

Agreed - can't beat the price though.

Why were you shooting with 1/20 of a second ? Pushing up shutterspeed also reduces the risk of camerashake.

    • @ShutterSpeak
      @ShutterSpeak  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great question. Although I may have not mentioned it in the video, I was shooting on a tripod and using a 1 second exposure delay to ensure there was no shake.
