Exploring These Ancient Biblical Coins!

- In this video we talk about ancient coins specifically from the Bible. These coins are also known as biblical coins. There are a few of the biblical ancient coins that stood out to me such as the Widow's Mite copper coins and the Shekels of Tyre silver coins. The Shekels of Tyre were the only currency accepted at the Jerusalem Temple and are the most likely coinage with which Judas was paid for the betrayal of Christ. Judas received 30 of the Shekels of Tyre coins for betraying Jesus and these coins can still be found today. I am not an expert on ancient biblical coins, but the guys at Harry's Coin Shop were able to explain what they all were to me. I love going into coin shops and seeing all of the unique and interesting coins. I hope these ancient coins were as fun for you to see as they were for me!

The knowledge base at Harry's seems so much more advanced than any coin shop I was ever in
Well done, brother! His betrayal is my salvation. ✝️ And your choice of coins is mine too! 👌🏼
Glad to see Richard is able to use coins I sold to educate people
Is Richard still at the shop.
Video with biblical knowledge always interesting. Great info from the guys once again!
The ancients are extremely interesting. I should look into getting a few nice pieces. Thanks!
Those coins looked nice, but I would like to see another episode where Harry's Coins has an update on these ancient coins. I would be interested to know if any of them are counterfeit.
They all look alright, but hard to say from the images
I’d like to see you do a follow up video once the coins come back from grading.
Cool old coins :)
These are very cool coins.
I would buy the Judas coin just because of how well known the story is lol
Absolutely amazing history in the coins.
I've started stacking silver trying to get as many OZ for my money...but when I see these types of coins I can't help but be attracted to the history. I can definitely see myself getting into ancients soon!!
❤ This was great to watch. I agree with your favorite piece of silver. It brings the story to life.
History speaks thru those coins.
Very interesting collection! Thank you for sharing!
A cautionary spiritual lesson for stackers in this presentation: Who or what would you betray for 30 talents of silver? Ancient coins are amazing. You can buy some late Roman era (Christian era) coins for not much money. I have just a few, and while they aren't in great condition at those prices, they're recognizable as coins. Their historical value is immeasurable for me.
Alexander's father was Philip II, not Philip III.
Great video, I always thought Judas was paid in Roman Denarii, i had no idea about Tyrian sheckles
I wonder if that Roman coin was the same one in reference to Jesus telling the Pharisees, "Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, but give to God what belongs to God."
I like videos on ancient coins, but I do have a few concerns. The first coin doesn’t appear to have the standard Melkart face seen on Tyrian shekels. It looks more like a Ptolemaic or Seleucid kingdom coin.
Also, Phillip III was actually Alexander the Great’s brother. Their father was Phillip II and he used Zeus (not Heracles) on his coinage.
They got their facts compleeetely wrong in this video. Its a bit sad to see people not checking their facts before publishing this.
I don't think Alexander's father's coin is featured either but still a very cool video - love ancient greek coins.
Very cool! Can you buy any of these online from Harry?
That Tyrian Shekel is a dream coin of mine. Probably never get to own one, but I'd definitely love to.
Those are beautiful coins. Although widows mite is not a very expensive coin, all those are very good examples that I could see going for 50-200$. They’re usually 10-20$ for an unrecognizable piece of bronze.. the shekel is also my favorite and I would send them in for grading. That coin can easily go for more than a thousand. A thousand is common but they can go for a few more.
Pretty freaking cool to see. Thanks for sharing.
Great content....Thanks for sharing!!!
So cool! Love these ancient coins. The one that was done in protest of Roman occupation with the tree...that reminded straight away of Bitcoin 🙂 . An analogue version of Bitcoin. Now, how cool is that?
I have a small bronze Simpulum coin from Jerusalem about 29-30 AD, it has Pontius Pilate on the obverse, and ears of barley on the reverse. .
Giving proper, well curated information is very important. The coin shown is a Ptolemaic Tetradrachm, these were used exclusively in Egypt, they operated a closed monetary system, so coins couldnt leave the country, and this particular type, likely from Ptolemy IX, was struck HUNDREDS of years before the time of christ. Not everything is worth a nice, clickbatey title.
Roman coins were circulating as well. Judas might have received 30 denarii as his payment. These silver coins were between nickel and dime size. The scene where Jesus answers the “should we pay taxes to Caesar” question illustrates my point. The unskilled wage was one denarius per day.
Shekel is specified, so was probably more than 30 denarii
I have coin from that era graded AU 4/5 4/5 NGC. I love the history of those coins. I like the larger shackle myself.
That is a very cool collection.
Richard's Judas joke at the end. I lolled. "Well I better be careful if you like that one so much..." holy $#!t that was funny.
I loved this video! Inspiring me back to when I was a little kid, I had an international book of currency, some confederate money too, Chinese coins, and a little gold piece. Well, our house burnt down when I was about 16. Lost all of it. But God is the real treasure I learned. Glad we don’t have to rely on earthly wealth, just faith and trust in Jesus. Never forget that. This stuff can all be gone in a poof of smoke. Stack on, but don’t trust your wealth to save you. Only Jesus can do that.
I like how Silver Dragons threw in a possibly mildly Gnostic interpretation of Judas just shooting the breeze at the store 😅
Can we get a follow-up video when they get them back from pcgs to see what they graded at?
Very cool video.
I liked them all. Very cool video. Thank you !
Stayed home a little under the weather today and just started watching 30 coins
Your a wizard harry.
SD Bullion prices are pretty good, but processing orders and shipping times take 10 or more days to receive your order, whereas other bullion dealers take about 5 days. Would be nice if customer service could improve the buying experience with faster delivery.
Very nice. Thank you for sharing
Really cool coins! Thank you.
Is it me or does the eagle on the back of the Shekel Tyre look a lot like the eagle on the back of the US $5 half eagle gold coin? The one with the Indian head
Phoenicia Shekel of Tyre ??? Ptolemaic tetradrachm maybe??? I think maybe
Very interesting subject I need to learn more about these
30 pieces of silver was the value of a servant's life, nowadays equivalent to between $91 to $441 in today's money
30 Shekels of pure silver was a substantial quantity of money back then, more like 30k in today's money.
So that is an Egyptian Ptolemaic tetradrachm, it's not a Phoenician Tyrian shekel, still a really awesome Tetradrachm but it isn't the shekel of tyre
Amazing!
History with Harry again
Ummm, the silver shekel of Tyre was not used in regular commerce. It was the coin used for donation to the Temple in Jerusalem. It was mandated that coin be used by the Romans (to mock the Jews) which as mentioned, was in violation of Jewish law as it portrayed a human and animal. Thats why there were " money changers" as Jews on pilgrimage would have to exchange their provincial coins for silver Roman shekels.
It was absolutely used in regular commerce. It was, however, a very important sum of money, so typically it was used by merchants, or wealthier people.
The use of this coin wasnt mandated by the Romans, where did you get that from?! It was imposed by the priests at the temple due to the silver purity of this coin, compared to the debased pieces struck by Roman authorities.
Eagles have been on coins for so long
Do you guys deal with Chinese empire coins from the Qing Dynasty?
How can i contact this shop to buy one of those coins? Please post info
The Phoenicia shekel of tyre is not featured in those coins - but looks somewhat similar.
Yeah something looks off on the tyre. It seems to be the faces symbols (I think that’s what it is?) that’s usually to the left of the eagle.
Hey Wally, yes it is not the right coin. The coin featured is a Soter of Ptolemy - Alexandria. The Shekel of Tyre is a Different coin altogether but is somewhat similar in look.@@wally7449
awesome video
How can we get I contact with Harry? I’m interested! Great video!!
Great job
Great great video❤
Do you know what that bird on the coin is holding in its talons ? To me it looks like a cosmic thunderbolt.
What an AMAZING collection of jewelry-set coins. The beautiful bezels augment them splendidly. My favourite is the Bar Kokhba revolt coin with the palm tree and grape vine. It is a great talismanic symbol of Jewish independence and rebellion against tyranny, and because many were overstruck on Roman imperial coins, it literally effaces the emperor in favour of peaceful domestic agriculture.
Whats the name of tbis shop and contact info please
Those are sweet
The ancients will probably get details grade for being ex jewellery. But its worth getting them slabbed still to verify them .
I have 3 of the widows mite. Jim80
I would have done it for 20.
LOVED THIS
SD🐉 any word on why there is a W on the obverse for the 2023 San Francisco Proof Eagle?
It the initial of the designer: Weinman.
@@harrykraus7338Thanks Harry 👍🏽
Mark 12:42-44
42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. 43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; 44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."
Just so everyone gets their eras correct, these are not from a "Biblical era", archeologically speaking. These are from the Roman era. The Philip III coin comes from the Hellenistic era.
The so called Widow's Mite is a name rebranding from the 14th century old Dutch language (mite=small or thin) and should be known as a Lepton. The King James Bible rebranded the term.
Stater of 25 Obols - Ptolemy I Soter, Posthumous (Alexandria)
(294 BC - 282 BC) ?
I have been considering selling some of my collection of 19th century European coins in order to fund a new collection of ancients.
What is the name of the coin shop in Sacramento? I'd like to go there and check it out.
I would love to buy the Phoenicia, Shekel,
what state is this in?
@Textnow698 what?
I'll tell you what's insane... Gold palladium platinum rhodium are going up and silver is nosediving..
How do we expose the fixing and shut it down?
Is King Richard still at the shop?
Oh wow, super cool man! I made a video on this topic a little over a week ago!! 😮👍🙏Thank God for the free gift of salvation.
Amen
How much for the Daenerys in one of the widows might?
The widow gave 2 mite's to the Temple, not Jesus. He just pointed out that what she gave was greater than all the others because of how poor she is.
How can I purchase???
That is the reason silver prices are suppressed in the world today 💪😎👍💰🇺🇸🙏
Awesome
@Silver__Dragon_47 eat poo-doo
Interesting video! While stationed in Pakistan I purchased an old coin from a street vendor and had it researched when I came back to the states. Turned out to have been struck about the time of Christ, by a Sythic King named Soter Megas. Thanks to this video, I plan now to have it set in a silver necklace and give it to my granddaughter! Thanks!!
Please don't mutilate a piece of history, put it in a collection or give it to a museum.
If you really like the shape and emblem of the coin then go to a jeweler and pay him to make a copy
Amen
30 pieces of silver and Judas ended up hanging himself. The hanging is the message of the betrayal.
Hey Richard.
King Richard strikes again!
🤴Richard with the knowledge.
You know what i thought, was a slap in the face. I saw that one of the online bullion dealers was selling a silver Nativity set i think it was SD Bullion but it wasnt made by them just sold by them i have nothing against them. It weighed 30z it kind of rubbed me the wrong way not gonna lie. Its on there right now if u wanna check jt out kinda cool but id rather get the Bull and Bear set instead i think the fact that the Nativity set is 30z is kinda rude. Bahahahaha
Let's do some math here: 1 Sheckel = 1/2 oz of Silver. So 30 Sheckels = 15 oz of Silver. At today's price: total: +/- $375.00.....Hmm? Still think Jesus was sold for $375.00?
Or was Silver a WHOLE LOT more valuable then? Let me know...Cheers
Is it a Oz?
Very cool pieces of history!
I’m very hesitant to offer this but I’ll trade several Trump coins & bars for these. Fair is fair! 🤣
Phillip 11 is alexanders father. Phillip 111 is alexander the great
You should clean up the scams in these comments. Your viewers are liking these post and creating even more hype around scams.
Stay safe everyone
Great video brother thanks for the info
I’d do it for One.
Made it a point to jump over having 30 pieces of silver.
Value destroyed by jewelry
Even though the Shekel is probably the best one of the lot, I like that bronze one a lot because of of the different style of the coin from that era vs the mostly used portrets.
According to the gospel of Judas, Jesus had to talk him into turning him in
There was no betrayal
That sounds more likely
I would had did it for 1 😮
In actuality the widow was not giving her last coins to Jesus but the pharisaic false Jewish system of the day and Jesus was actually condemning and promising to destroy such a system that would take all she had!!
Where did you read that? The point of the story was that, unlike the rich man who gave a lot of money but a small percentage of his wealth, the widow gave EVERYTHING.
@@harrykraus7338 context context context. ...and yes I understand 99% see it your way but keep reading ,it's mostly misused for a false tithing lesson. . IT IS NOT!
@@harrykraus7338 "not one stone will be left". . Jesus is condemning the religious system and its leaders who would compel anyone to think they could buy forgiveness or gain it by works
