Victims of domestic violence should never depend on the legal system to help them.
They should use the legal system to document the abuse.
A protection order does not protect.
It only allows officers to arrest the abuser for violating a restraining order.
That abuser can also bond out of jail and come back.
    The best protection is anonymity.
The abuser should not know where the victim works, lives, or hangs out.
The victim should change her number and go into a domestic violence shelter or a far away unknown place to the abuser.
She should not stay with friends or family so their lives are not endangered.
She also needs to change her number and open up a new email account.
An abuser cannot do anything to a victim if he does not know where she is.
She also needs to take a self defense class if possibly and get a gun license.

Taking out mortgage for a house, co-op, or a condo will cause her information to be sold to date a brokers and her information would most likely end up on the internet.
The best thing for victims to do electronic mails to her email address.

I have to ask myself why someone would sympathize with this behavior. Your mentality is exactly why women and children need more effective legal protections. While this is sad, and domestic violence needs to be taken seriously, please be mindful that a piece of paper may not always protect you. This young lady had an order of protection, but it didn't matter. I also think the seizure of guns will only provide a false sense of hope. Even if the police seize guns, that person can get another one illegaly. In face there are thousands if not tens of thousands of people in Illinois who have illegal guns. Criminals don't follow the law, that's what makes them criminals. so if you take some peoples guns they will get another one. Criminals tend to associate with criminals in my opionion so they can just call a friend and get another weapon.
I think one of the lessons here is that this man had a violent history, so maybe we want to avoid people who have violent tendancies if we don't want to become victims of violence. Leave these "bad boys" alone.

People lack critical thinking skills and an understanding of the core issue. Moreover, taxpayers are funding the jail cells, food, and TVs for the incarcerated. Does everyone know where their taxes are going? Even lawmakers pay taxes, but are they aware that they're funding the incarceration facilities and the inmates' sustenance? That's something to ponder. It's noteworthy that while they create the laws, they must be conscious of where their money is being allocated, yet many citizens probably aren't. This is a significant problem.

This is why some women don't report their abuse cos they feel the system will fail and not protect them. Domestic violence has taken front seat where I live, to many women have been murdered lately. Judges and parole boards need to be held accountable too.

Unfortunately even if they had taken every firearm in his possession, he could’ve still gotten one from the streets like he did all the others. The conversation shouldn’t be about removing firearms. That wouldn’t stop a killer. He should’ve been in jail. What we need is expedited hearings and if there is evidence of a threat the person should be in jail.
