Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic video I really appreciate it. I've noticed that I can't use the 'QTY' in the equation when the Bill of Materials (BOM) type is set to 'Top Level Only.' It only works when I select 'Parts Only.' Is there a way to make it work under 'Top Level Only'? Your assistance is greatly appreciated
I have a question if you don't mind. I wrote an equation for total area in the BOM. Works great. Another user opens that files and all values go to zero. In my machine it works great, but he opens it the values go to zero. Any ideas? I think it's an Option or maybe Excel verses Table BOM. Thanks.
Hi David, what if I needed to directly link the part numbers with the baloons? I'm trying to set the BOM that each piece in the exploded view is linked with its hierarchical number (2.2.1; 2.2.2; 2.2.3...) rather than 1,2,3.... But I have to write it manually inside each baloon. How could I do it? All the bests.
Giovanni, to do this you need to have a sub-assembly as part of the model. For parts only no subs the parts are whole number 1, 2, 3, ... Once you add a sub-assembly change the BOM type to indented, when this happens set the drop down menu to "DETAILED NUMBERING" this will update the BOM and balloons. I have had an occasion where I had to re-auto balloon when doing this FYI.
That's awesome!! I have a question - if I want to save this customized as a template and reuse it for a different assembly later, the biggest challenge I see would be that you programed row10 (total cost) to be a sum of row 1-9, would it work again if I have another assembly with more than 9 components then?
Great Question: Any additional part will of course be added to the BOM. It will add them below the total cost line. Just drag and reorder for the BOM, then right click on the Equation that we used for cost and add the new cell.
You could use Solidworks Costing, or if each part has a property for cost you can link that property to a column in the BOM similar to this www.goengineer.com/blog/link-a-dimension-to-the-bom-with-custom-property
Dude all I want is for you to stop smacking your lips it makes your videos very hard to watch how to stretch a column infect the entire name into it almost software it's easy as simply grabbing it and scratching it but obviously I knew it was going to be more with SolidWorks cuz it always has to be and oddly enough there's nobody that will show you how to do it

Very nice, but I need the length and width and thickness of all my rectangular parts in the BOM; how can one do this?
We have an article that goes over that process here www.goengineer.com/blog/link-a-dimension-to-the-bom-with-custom-property
Very helpful. Thanks a lot ....
yes it was helpful and thank you so much.

Hey Jay, make sure the file that is referenced in the BOM is also opened. Having the correct or matching version of Excel may also resolve this.
It is an awesome channel
Thank you for all

How add dimension part on table?

8:19 total cost equation
This equation and formula thing is very inconsistent in my case: SW2020. Sometimes it work, other times never
