The phenomenal legend of Indian Classical Violin, Dr. N. Rajam is world-renowned & acclaimed for her art. She is known as the 'Singing Violin'. She has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Apart from being a musician, she is also a brilliant academician and has been a Professor of Music at the Banaras Hindu University for nearly four decades.
हिंदुस्तानी वायलिन की अभूतपूर्व कलाकार, डॉक्टर एन राजम अपनी कला के लिए विश्व प्रसिद्ध और प्रशंसित हैं। वह 'सिंगिंग वायलिन' के रूप में जानी जाती हैं। उन्हें पद्म भूषण, पद्म श्री और संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया है। एक संगीतकार होने के अलावा, वह एक शानदार शिक्षाविद भी हैं, और बनारस हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय में लगभग चार दशकों से संगीत की प्रोफेसर हैं।

I has the good fortune to hear Dr N Rahman play in Banaras in the early 1990s - one of the best concerts that I have ever been to. I still remember it well.
Tabla player deserves the credit for at least having his name appear in the title of this video.
I believe the tabla artist is Sri Ajeet Pathak, agreed that he deserves recognition for his wonderful playing!

I have listened to maybe 4-5 versions of Ammaji’s Raag Yaman. They all follow the same process structure but each is special and uniquely felt in the moment. Nothing is ever delivered mechanically. At the age of 82, she still plays beautifully. This might be the best and wisest of the renditions I’ve had the pleasure to cry too. 😂🙏🏾 The love and feeling I feel when I hear this I pray all life on this planet 🌎 can feel at least once! This is transcendence.

This particular performance and several other renditions by Dr. Rajam are used regularly in Music Therapy. To me, "Serenity" means Dr. N Rajam. Koti Koti Pranaamas to her lotus feet.

i played this on the open window on a rainy day. for my beloved cat of 19 years who passed away recently. it gives me so much comfort. it’s emerging to the rain, the trees, the clouds, the sky. it’s eternal love. i cry, i smile.

In 1975 i heard Raag Hameer on LP record rendered by Smt. Rajam's violin as 20 year old, and practicing violin since then, i feel it is long way to touch the tip of her toes in expertise. It is extrodinry and duvine🙏🙏🙏

Sorry... But this is no match to carnatic violin. Forget melody, this bowing technique is not even efficient for Indian classical music
She is not in her comfort posture playing it. All Indian violinists play sitting quite one leg over the other. Westerns play standing. The organizers made a messy arrangement for her.
Vijay Mohan ji, Dr Rajam has some health issues and she cannot sit in the traditional position. This is how she chooses to play the violin. Please don't sit in the comfort of your armchair and pass judgment on organizers without knowing the facts!
