7:23 D9's for days! My first cue was a D8, bought it in 89'. I was in college, the HOURS I put in with that cue! Broke and shot with it never let me down. I still have it and she hits and plays well in 2021. Though its not my main shooter anymore it's a true testament to old school McDermott quality.

Love the old school McDermott cues. My second cue was the first McDermott with a steel-steel joint - that was around 25 years ago. Still have a classic McDermott jump/break cue

I have a D-4 that I bought new in 1984-85. It still plays great. I've always been careful to avoid grinding green or blue chalk into any shaft; matter of fact, I almost always use tan chalk to avoid discoloring shafts. My M14D Portico is beautiful, long points made by inlay. But even more beautiful is my M89A Cue of the Year from 2008, another which used their computer controlled inlay machines, and which I think is the most beautiful of any of their Cue of the Year models. Sometime around 2006 I bought a special McDermott cue built with New Old Stock full-splice forearms, probably from the D16 cues of the 80s. The forearms had been sitting in their controlled storage for 20 years or more. Mated to a rosewood butt and forearm, the red and blue splice points (points, not inlays) really stand out, along with the leather wrap this cue is a favorite for looks and playability. A new cue with full splice build is uncommon today, and costs a bundle, but I think I only paid $225 for mine, which doesn't have a McD model number because it is a one off or a special build.
I wonder how many of those machines in this video which are from the 80s are still operational today at their manufacturing plant? Those rotating turret lathes are built to last 100 years, with occasional rebuild of bearings and good care of the beds. Some of the machines, especially those with computer control, were likely replaced by more modern computer controlled units.

I have a B5 model I bought from the McDermott factory when the factory was in a barn in Menomonee fall WI in the mid 70's for 115.00. I lived in Milwaukee and drove out and picked it off the wall. It is still in my case today. I don't shot with it any longer as the shaft got so thin from me sanding it over the years it looks like a toothpick lol. But I keep it around because it was my first custom cue. It served me well for several decades.

I bought my McDermott directly in the showroom of the factory back in 1996. Went in to just look around but the sales rep let me choose a cue to play on the showroom pool table. Asked what I liked and what I didn’t with the cue stick. He made a weight adjustment and the cue played very nice in my hands. He took the cue from me and said he would be right back. When he returned, my name was engraved on the butt. He said I wasn’t obligated to buy it but asked what else would I want in a cue. Yeah, I bought it and still use it to this day.

Wonder what year this was? Guessing 1992 or so. I bought my 1st McDermott when they had a small place on Marcy.

This feels like the 80s video, and they still have good cues and good people for sure.

The building is still there, it was sold a few years ago to someone else and McDermott moved into a nearby much smaller facility.

@@hugohuysmans9666 I had a nice personality, but I set it down somewhere, and now I can't find it. That's old age creeping up, like it did to that VCR tape. Maybe I need 4K glasses, or more advice from the Internet. Yeh, more advice from the Internet, that should do the trick.

It is legal anywhere as long as you have to call it that way or just need to call the pocket. But these people were playing 9ball so then it doesnt matter.

SHUT UP JESSIE. You sold the company. Would have been cool to have seen a very young Jaymie Cernicka in this video. He has been there all this time. What a great ambassador for the brand and the sport!
If I could ever buy McDermott Cues, I would appoint Jaymie president immediately.
    Long live McDermott!!

Hi, I know, it's a bit "unserious" to talk about such things, but the people interwieved, were thy stoned? They talk such slow and 'beside their corps', it looks like they have had a nice puff of good MJ...
But maybe I'm wrong, this company makes a heartful production of an artistic instrument to a ratherly produced piece of consume... that's the way humanity goes... sadly, we have such great potential, such great and capable brains to make the world like a paradise again... but we make war, corona in the laboratry, money-sucking-fucking @ the exchange markets...
The human doesn't need a meteorite to go down, like the Dinos get... we do it by ourselves!!! :-D :-D :-D
Greetz from Schwiiz, we are the purest caps!!! KissKiss!

What you wrote shows that you have no knowledge of the subject you are commenting on, pity, if you did your research you would know that a McDermott cue is a players cue and they also have collectors as well, they have a lifetime warrantee on everything they make in the US.
I have tried most cue brands and some custom and my Mcdermott is just as good as any cue out there, in fact everyone that tries it wants to buy it even cue makers, so do your research.
