    Episode 002
    In this episode, Dan works on finishing up a custom McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse New 52 Superman figure. This is a kitbash with some custom paint. Today, I go over removing a hair piece from one figure, and attaching it to another one to achieve the desired look. I also go over which pieces of which figures went into the creation of this one.

    • @VoidCityReviews

      Yeah, that one is based on Rebirth, and I was not as big of a fan. I believe that because I used the smaller chest piece, it made the action Comics head look the right size. McFarlane is reusing it though on the infected torso which is way bigger, and it just makes the head look very small to me. I will post an updated video once I get an etching tool and create all of his armor detail for this version. Thanks for watching!

Still not sure if we will ever see a proper New 52 Superman or batman, but I would love an actual New 52 Superman with metallic paint. • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the one that is being released is not New 52 superman. It is rebirth Superman who is the one that came after. rebirth doesn't have the collar on his outfit and I believe his cape is back to the old rectangular bottom rather than the triangular one. he also has the original emblem on his chest, which although mine also has that, that's going to change very soon to the New 52 emblem. Rebirth Superman also kind of went back more to the classic Superman haircut with the "s" curl in the front, and for reasons I will never understand, for some reason doesn't have red boots. I'm not really a big fan of the Rebirth figure coming out either, but, the good thing is it will give me a few extra parts for my New 52 figure (for hands and wrists primarily). I will be making a part two to this video at some time in the future, there's just a few things I have to figure out about fitting the New 52 emblem into the chest, as it is different dimensions than the classic emblem. I will also be adding the metallic blue paint and the New 52 armor lines onto his outfit.

    Are you gonna give this figure the blue/metal blue color?

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still undecided on that. It all really depends on if I find a blue that I like. The detail I would much more be concerned about having is just the etched lines into the suit to give it the appearance of having the new 52 Kryptonian "armor" (for lack of a better word) look to it. once I get those etched in there, which of course will be another video I'm sure, then I will start looking at the paint to see if I can put a metallic blue over him. Of course that would mean I would need a metallic red also.... Hmm.... I am happy with how he looks currently but I imagine after I finish up a few more of these custom projects I have in the works, I will definitely be revisiting New 52 Superman.

    Dude that looks awesome!!! Think that head look good on rebirth superman?

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha thank you! I have Rebirth Superman now actually. In real life, he looks a lot better than he does in photos, but I'm only taking about the paint. He's a lot less Edward Scissorhands-looking.... BUT, his head is still too small for that larger torso piece and chunkier body. other than the hair, it is actually the same head as the one that I have here on this figure. So it would still have the same size issues unfortunately even if the hair does look nicer. although I must say, even if he had recast the exact same head just a tad bigger, I think it would have actually looked pretty good on this figure. it doesn't take away from the fact that the boots still look pretty ugly because they just used paint rather than molding a different piece to match the shape..... other than that though I'm happy because I can use rebirth Superman's hands instead of Bizarro's so now I don't have to paint the hands because I have the correct color.

      A few people have suggested it and I may look into it. I don't know about the whole head but the hair might work out. I've kind of gotten used to how this one looks however, it's pretty much the look I was going for. But if the other one looks better and it fits, who knows. there is already going to be a part two to the new 52 video where I replace the emblem with a new 52 accurate emblem and give him metallic paint and etched in armor lines. I'm also going to replace the joints on his ankles with proper colored ones. But there could always be a part 3 where he gets new hair! Once I get Superboy prime I will check it out.

    That hair swap worked out really well! Can the hot water cause any issues with the paint?

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never had it cause any issues with any paint that comes on the figures already, no. of course it's not like you are actively boiling the figure, you are just briefly dipping it in water that is quite warm. I'm sure if you actually like boiled it for real it would probably have some negative effects on the paint. The only thing to be careful of is if you have painted the figure yourself, then you'll want to be cautious when using water after that point. if you have used some sort of waterproof sealer over the paint then you might be fine, otherwise just be very careful because a lot of paints are water based and getting them wet again will cause some problems sometimes.

      While you are correct, I liked that this one had a metallic finish on it already so I left it as is for the time being. if I do the full blue finish on him then I think I will fix the S and make it the new 52 S. There were some artists who drew the S the old way, but you are right it would look pretty sharp with the new 52 version. I seem to recall Supergirl getting the new 52 version a lot more often than Clark kept his, but again I think it just depended on the artist. Is nightwing's feet and robin crows feet the same size?

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their feet are very similar in size if you are going from the aspect of "shoe size." However, nightwing's feet are a little bit taller, barely but just a little bit. And obviously they will look a *little* bit bigger simply because of the nature of them being boots versus Robin's being little Peter Pan shoes. The newest nightwing, the one from Gotham Knights, has feet that are far more similar to shoes or sneakers than boots. They do have blue and white painting on them as well as the black, but they are also a little bit shorter than the Nightwing boots. However they appear to have a larger ankle so they probably won't fit the same peg size as Nightwing and Robin who appear to have the same one from what I can tell, just cast in different colors.

This Supes costume is stupid & dumb, as well as the Batman one, hate these characters without the shorts, looks like they,re wearing tights. It,s little better than DC,s late 90,s red & blue duo Superman story line. They frickin fracken suck, if got 52,s as gift, might keep it, crude & cheap tawdry design and concept, lacking soul character, sorry not my thing..Hate the sight of 52,s comics and toys. Oddly enough Green Lantern still has same exact costume though, right? Go figure. It,s not awesome dude 52 Superman sucks, sucks.. Seriously dude, seriously. Not a fan of Brandon Routh Superman, have twelve inch doll style action figure, like it though hate that actor,s image as Supes' portrayal, can,t stand it, though does make a decent a.f. • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is your very subjective opinion repeated over and over again. As mentioned in the video, personally, I do not like the underpants over the tights, which yes he is wearing tights I don't know why you have a problem with that, because that is indeed exactly what he is wearing even when he does have the underpants over the top of them. in fact if you know anything about his original design you would know that that's why the underpants are over his tights, because they were too tight and because artists were not allowed to depict male crotches with any sort of a shape to them so they put the underpants over it so that they didn't have to draw anything there. had more to do with censorship than it had to do with "original design." the only thing I could really say after all that is for someone who hates New 52 as much as you say you do, you certainly spend quite a lot of time talking about it. The new 52 suit made far more sense to the character itself then somehow his Earth mom sewing together an invulnerable Invincible costume for him in their farmhouse. if she could sew it with the sewing machine, then bullets would be able to rip it apart instantly and it would never last through him flying even one time. in my opinion the new 52 suit not only set it apart from the other heroes who all had sort of the same type of outfits for decades, but it made far more sense given what the physical attributes of the suit have always been. As did Batman's for that matter. every single scene you ever see him in the batcave before that he's always pulling a cloth shirt down over his bare chest and that's his outfit. But then whenever he gets shot there's always layers and layers of armor underneath there? That makes absolutely no sense. the more armored suit to begin with actually made sense to the character of a human running around being shot at all the time and somehow surviving. you say that no thought was put into the new 52, however I say that far more thought was put into it than was ever put into the outfits of the characters or their origins initially because it's just true fact. look up history of comics and look at how much time was put into creating the characters back then and having them make any sort of sense. it was more about making them flashy and recognizable back then than it had anything to do with making them make sense.

      I guess my question to you would be, what is it that you feel having underpants outside of their tights adds to their character? I guess I just can't remember a single time in either of their collective histories wear them having underpants outside of their tights ever contributed or even added a single thing to their character themselves. I already mentioned in my previous comment a bit about why they actually had to be drawn that way back in the day (and that had a bit to do with why Christopher Reeve and Adam West for example wore them as well, again it had to do more with censorship than it had to do with costume design). But as far as the comics go they just in modern day don't make sense. design wise or for the characters themselves and what the outfits are actually supposed to be. Superman wears an alien outfit from an alien world that is invulnerable to most things that could damage it on earth. And Batman wears military grade or higher armor that enhances his movements, augments his strength, and protects him from things like bullets and knives in many cases. all of these are things that tights with underpants and a belt over them simply cannot do and simply don't make sense for. Green lantern's outfit changes all the time by the way, they may be smaller changes or harder to notice given there are tons of Green lanterns who all look very similar, but his outfit changes just as often as superman's. If you notice, every new art team that draws these heroes has slight changes to the outfits.

      Just keep in mind it's not always the one to one swap. oftentimes you do have to do some carving on the top of the head that's getting the hair or you have to carve out the inside of the hair going on the head, it all depends on the shapes and how they fit together. I got pretty lucky on this one I think. typically any character with hair that isn't like super short or a buzz cut, is going to be a separate piece. On very few of them is the hair actually part of the sculpt of the head.
