At 5k-25k per burial (average burial costs nationwide) how could she not come up with 67k in 4 years? These places don't handle the money coming in properly and pretty soon building start falling apart, cemeteries fill up, but keep taking bodies. Garages and out buildings fill up with bodies, older graves get dug up and reused. Pretty soon the people running furneral homes and cemeteries just walk away taking a bunch of money with them. You read about this happening all the time. You see it on the tv news and see it here on TH-cam. These type of businesses need to be closer regulated with much stiffer penalties.

But seriously are families paying an upkeep fee or did the cemetary sell plots to families 40 years ago that included up keep? If 40 years ago that's long gone. If monthly is it too low and the cemetary can't raise it? Some places cemeteries are highly regulated, you can't even flip a plot for more than 10% more than you paid for it. PS 30 years ago a neighbor suddenly passed, who conveniently owned a small cemetery, in ground plaques, no stones, easy to mow. It went for $20K. He made money because he had the physique and time to hand dig the graves himself.

Some states have it were graveyards do not have to pay taxes on the property. Now maybe you have to pay personal taxes for profits
I believe if a cemetery closes that the owners are responsible for moving the deceased to a new burial site. I think the families of the decedents should sue the owner.
