During Reconstruction, three new amendments to the Constitution redefined freedom, citizenship, and democracy in the United States. But how much really changed? In this video, Kim Kutz Elliott examines continuity and change over time in the lives of African Americans in the South before and after Reconstruction.
Switch the video to 1.5x playback speed; it’s more bearable.

Excellent! For all of us in the Great Divide. We forgot about HOW we seem to forget our mistakes AGAIN. Iraqi Insurgency. No exit plan etc

Great video❤❤🎉🎉
does anyone know what the citation of this video would be?
Went to university, BA in history, focus on reconstruction. If you aren't black it's super boring, but it means so much to us. Thank you for watching
I'm a white high school student, currently studying Reconstruction in my U.S. history class. I'm actually enjoying it, anything relating to slavery, or black American's fight for equality is fascinating to me
WHERES THE GUY KHAN????
Thank you I am not first I am second viewer
Cool man!
Even sharecroppers were a *lot* more free than *slaves*; nobody had any claims over their bodies, or the conditions of their labor but them for instance.

Anybody here preparing for IMAT
The 14th Amendment was never ratified in accordance with Article V. Territories do not ratify amendments which is exactly what the 10 southern states were reduced to. Nor did they have any representatives in the House or Senate. Furthermore, the military also can't ratify amendments in which they had full control over the 10 states reduced to territories by de facto usurpation in a time when peace had already been declared by Lincoln and Johnson alike. The 10 states were completely absent a republican form of government.
The 14th failed the 1st time and it's rarely taught. Also, New Jersey and Ohio both rejected the amendment however the SOS unlawfully put them down as ratifying the amendment. The Reconstruction Acts, as per an unconstitutional requirement, said those 10 former states could rejoin the Union only if they ratified the 14th. Another clear violation of the US constitution. You're either a constitutionalist or you support the biggest fraud in American history. You can't however do both. I can name at minimum 15 different constitutional violations by Congress and Lincoln during 1860-1868. It was the 39th rump Congress who defined the new Nationalized United States citizenship.
Name those 15 violations
