Your face when that big bass missed...that's great. RE: the drop sheet, I find that if you tuck it in an inch or two beneath the edges of the tent, it won't cause pooling, unless your tent is in a serious depression. And if the rain is really torrential or draining heavily from one side, fold the edge of the drop sheet over and create a "boat" with the edges to further mitigate the issue.
This was a great video series. Have been to Kawartha Highlands many times as we live at Fowler's Corners. Started overnighters there. Just got back from Massaussaga. Could be our last trip there. We are 70 and 65 yrs. old.
Been watching your videos and reading your books for years. Love Speedo Man and Andy. Hope you find happiness in your future life and continue doing what you love.
Hi Kevin : Thanks for one of the most interesting & informative videos You have produced for a while. I've been paddling for over 50 years there had to be at least 6 very useful tips I picked up & will try to use in the future. Thanks again Brian 77.
Hey Kevin! I enjoy all the stuff you do. This particular trip is pretty unique in that you can trip right to your own front door basically. That's pretty cool! Also did not know about using a trembling aspen as a guide to potential weather coming in. Facinating!! Will certainly be showing that trick off to some friends! I'm also in the same head space as you in that protecting places like this are important and I don't mind paying a fee. Still far too many people who don't respect nature but I suppose it could be worse if those same people could access places like this for free. Thanks Kevin.Chris Moor
Favourite series by far, really enjoyed the change up from your usual stuff. Not to say that the other stuff isn't great but this trip seemed to have a lot better flow with the story and trip.
I have always been of the attitude that if a bear wants your food it will get it. I try to make sure the bear makes alot of noise trying so I can get out and chase it off. Didn't realize you put it that far away.
I really like that park. I picked it for my first solo :) Don't you ever worry about dumping your camera? How do you mount it to film while you paddle?
Great video. I used to be a Forester in Florida. I have a touring kayak which I love but I’m thinking about getting a canoe too. I’ve been looking at a lot of solo boats, (Fox 14, supernova. Wenonah solos and the mad river serenade. Do you have any experience with these or recommendations on a solo boat?
My three choices for solo boats are Nova Craft Fox 14, Bob Special 15 (that's the one in the video) and Prospector 16 (paddled backwards). All great choices.
@@TheHappyCamper thanks Kevin! I'm trying hard to decide on a new canoe for the kids and I for mixed water extended trips. Anyway, thanks so much for putting some quality content on TH-cam. I learned to hot tent from you. Kids and I get an extra season of camping in now - thanks for that.
Do you hang everything or just your food in the barrel? How do you deal with you clothes that you wore while fishing? Did you ever have problem with bear getting interested to the fishy smell of the bottom of your canoe? or do you wash it every night?
It depends on where I'm tripping. Further north - where tall trees are rare - I'll place the barrel away fro camp. But places like Algonquin and the Kawarthas I generally hang it. Fish smells are a concern. I fillet away from camp and wash everything. I don't change cloths but I do know people who do that in grizzly country.
Hey Kevin. I saw at our local Walmart last night that there's a new little Debbie's snack called "the happy camper" with a guy in a red canoe on the box. The snacks are little pine tree cakes. Are they working with you or just something random? Just wondering. I bought one just in case it was supporting you in anyway. Bye for now Mike
KCHappyCamper I didn't taste them. I'll ask my daughter at lunch time. I'm sure she had one. I always tell everyone about you and what you said about this and that, so was hoping you had something to do with them. :-) Mike
They weren't as usual! I've also been to the NR school in Hinton Alberta and that's a place that the LMF Centre could have been with a little funding...oh well.
I thought I was watching the funniest thing ever when Angel was snapping at the Horse flies..That was until the Butterfly landed on your head😂🤣😂
Your face when that big bass missed...that's great.

I love Andy every time he pops up I laugh, I know this is old but its all inspiring stuff !!
Thanks. He's a great friend. And this is one of my favourite to rewatch as well.

glad you enjoyed it. Fowler's Corners. You can paddle home as well....
you two make me smile, thanks,k
Just getting to all your videos....again 😄
Steve Herrero's "Bear Attacks, Their Causes and Avoidance" is a great read.
Great video Kevin and it was nice to hear from Andy. You better invite him next time bud. Lol
Enjoyed this series, great to see Andy again. Enjoyed your trip videos with Andy the most!
Been watching your videos and reading your books for years. Love Speedo Man and Andy.

Thanks. Happiness is around the corner.....
Cool, living on an old portage...great hook paddling home, and fun to do. Great vid.
Thanks Jim. Your latest video series is amazing!
So good to see Andy again :) Hope the two of you join up soon - you have a great dynamic :)
We have a trip planned in August

Thanks. I guess I should share more info. I have gathered over the years.
Loving this series, Heading to Kawartha Highlands for my first time in less than two weeks!
Great to see you at Canoecopia again.
cool route Kevin... did you even know that you had a butterfly on your head?
Enjoyed this Kev. You should put a map, route on here as well. I live in uk and like to follow the routes.

Thanks for the comments. I enjoyed throwing a bit of info. I've gathered over the years of wondering the woods.
Hey Andy , that's a good idea. Thanks Brian 80
I haven't seen a trip with Andy in a while, he's a funny guy. I hope I didn't miss a video of a recent trip with him.
He's been working a lot. I have a trip with him in August though. I miss him too. Best canoe partner ever
Nature loves you Kevin the butterfly on your head LoL
Great information Kevin. Love when you do these longer informed video's. :)
Thanks Justin. I'm not always so silly. I sometimes forget to show my work background in forestry and fish/wildlife.
Favourite series by far, really enjoyed the change up from your usual stuff. Not to say that the other stuff isn't great but this trip seemed to have a lot better flow with the story and trip.
Thanks. I agree. So does my mother. She's happy that I pulled the curtain away for a bit.
KCHappyCamper I guess it's easier to focus on filming when you're solo something to do in addition to traveling
nice trip!
great tips
@ 2:18 deerfly's buzzing the deerfly buzzed at the camera perfect timing. What kind of bag do you use and food?
I love Kawartha Highland PP. I'm going there in 2 weeks with my Mom. We are kayaking to Cold Lake with no portages.
Nice Lake
hi, in the west i’m always the only canoe on the water.. that said, wish i were there !
Love this content!
The butterfly at 7:00!
loved it. I knew it landed but did nothing to respond.

Love the butterfly on the head at 6:38 in, how many takes did that take
It just happened - I tried to keep a straight face........

KCHappyCamper thank you. I’m watching your Thames river trip right now.
Kevin, always love these videos. On a portage like this - may I ask - are you canoeing with a lot of rocker?
I had the Nova Craft Bob Special which doesn't have much rocker too it. It's a very stable canoe and low to the water line.

@@timgordon3716 Thanks. A prospector design is a good choice for family canoe trips.

I'll have to look for them. Nothing to do with me though. How did it taste?
KCHappyCamper I didn't taste them. I'll ask my daughter at lunch time. I'm sure she had one. I always tell everyone about you and what you said about this and that, so was hoping you had something to do with them. :-)

HI ANDY! :)
Leslie M. Frost. I was on the last MNR course there is Jan 2004. Truly a shame that we sold that...anything to save a dollar.
Totally agree. What were they thinking?
They weren't as usual! I've also been to the NR school in Hinton Alberta and that's a place that the LMF Centre could have been with a little funding...oh well.
I like mostly serious Kevin
Thanks.. I think its important to always change it up now and then.
