    Nice overview of the different kinds of locks. When I first started picking locks, the easy to open warded locks would stump me because I was treating them like pin tumblers, even though I couldn't find any pins. 😂 Once I learned what type of lock they were, I made a tool from a paperclip that opens most of them. Just a straight section with a 90° bend at the end. Now I have the Sparrows warded pick set, and it works great.

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      William Mancel You can make short work of them, sadly, I did the exact same thing with a dollar store lock when I first started.
      I love when the warded lock pick matches up perfectly. One of the ones with the two protrusions (the wider one) lines up perfectly with on of my Master Locks and it works as easily as the key!
      Thanks for sharing:)

    My dads friend has a pretty big safe that he doesn't know the code to, and he lost the key. I attempted to pick it open (with permission) not expecting to be able to open it. To my surprise it was a wafer lock, and I opened it in 3 and a half minutes using the monkey paw medium hook w/ top of keyway tension. I got the monkey paw pick on sparrows website, it's quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Thanks helpful lockpicker, you're the man.

    I have a lock I just pulled from a doorknob that has stuck pins and no key, I know it's not a Schlage because none of my Schlage keys fit into it. My next guess would be quickest or Weiser but is there any way to tell? Or do I just keep buying re-pining kits until I find a key that works? The springs are very small and the key is also going to be small, it was on my closet door I found a bike lock key that actually goes into it maybe if I keep trying key pins I can rekey it to this key, but it would be nice to order a re-pining kit as you can with Schlage. The Kwikset Re-keying package I found on Amazon doesn't come with pins just new keys and a device that apparently sets the pins to the new key. I know that this lock is old I'd say nearly 30 years old. I've been here for 12 and the place hasn't been remodelled in at least 30 years I still have skeleton key locks with glass knobs on some of the doors in here. The end cap on the core is just a cap no threads just a silver cap. Anyone have a clue as to what it might be?

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't want to take your lock to the locksmith (probably the best option) can you take the lock out of the door and go to the hardware store and see what blank fits. Once you know the keyway that opens more options for you.

    Tubular lock picks can be used by a chimp and get it open.

    • @HelpfulLockPicker
      @HelpfulLockPicker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ken R Tubular lock picks do not work on good tubular locks. I find them interesting from an SPP perspective because you have to usually pick them a few times to get them open.
      I agree with you that one can make short work on a tubular lock that is cheaper, however, manufactures are varying the springs in them now and tubular picks can easily be thwarted.

      you mean impression tools and they work great sometimes but I've drilled a bunch in the field that had heavy tension on the cam and the impression tool didnt work. A job from few months ago was a pool table with four of them. Couldnt impression any of them. I drilled one which got me access to the back of the others and with them off the table and no tension on the cam I was able to impression them. That impression tool has definitely failed more than its worked for me on locks that were installed on things.
