Yeah kind-a, I have exams going on. I don't think the technique would work but, I'm sure gonna focus more and not shift to other things when stressed !!
Again a Video where you preach that something that is unchangeable can be Changed. We, Humans that is, are all born a certain Way, and can not Change how, who or what we are. Everything about us is predetermint, and it is impossible to be or do something that is not meant to be done. Why are you lying to your Subscribers that much? Or is it that you really do not know this?
Thank you for sharing your valuable information, it seems that some of those techniques are already under use yet thanks for your painstaking effort and wonderful suggestion of the book named mastery. That really is a pure gem I perused it already.
Thank you Alux you are helping me raise my children as well as helping me become a better person in general. Sunday Dinner listening to Alux is our tradition.
No that's how to memorize the anatomy of a fucking leaf but you can't use simple repetition in the real world because you don't know how to apply that skill
Repetition is one key to learning but the repetition has to be done in particular ways for it to be effective... For example repeating active recall aiming for perfection while combining that with spaced repetition and chunking is powerful but repetition the wrong way can lead to embedding the wrong information
I’d recommend the book “Limitless” by Jim Kwik. He goes over the topic of learning how to learn as well as teaching other things like activating the flow state manually and easily remembering names
Thank you for another priceless video. There are so many things that many of us take for granted, just like this one...Learning how to Learn or how to be a great human being or good parent, etc. On this subject, I use the following life hacks.... 1- if I would like to learn what I have being taught.... I find a way to teach it...this way I replay the schooling in my mind and I start to make sense of what I was schooled. 2- when I am schooled something new, I always try and relate this new concept to something that I have learnt in the past in my mind... If I can't, I know I am gonna struggle to learn the new concept 3- take what I have being schooled and do it... You learn by doing and not just by taking in the theory Thank you so much for your channel, I have leant so much from the priceless information you have shared freely, especially around business. I discovered your channel with the video... 15 things the rich teach their kids... I was hooked thereafter. I have a request... In this video the rich teaches their kids... How Money Works. Thank you again for all this valuable detail you share Ali-South Africa
Have you seen the course on coursera.org called, "Learning How to Learn?" In it they say to get ups and exercise, like something hand eye. Maybe, shooting hoops, practice putting, etc. So, study for 45, exercise for 15, drink a glass of water and repeat. Eat good dinner, study some more, get ready for bed, review, and get a good night sleep. The concept is that your muscles have memory. (Also known as your subconscious mind.) It's a great class.
When I was writing my first novel, it would take me an hour to write 500 words. After a while, I got so good that I could write 500 words in 30 minutes. At first I would just waste the other thirty, but then I started doing two sets of 500 every hour. Finally, towards the end, I could do 1000 words in 30-40 minutes.
Trust me. Go to Google and type in "How many words are in a novel?" And then after that search the word counts of your favorite novelists. You don't necessarily need to write 1000 words at a time. As long as you have an end goal to go forward to, it doesn't matter how long it takes. It took almost a decade to write Atlas Shrugged and War and Peace.
@@alanjohnson9336 Start off with KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). You will need to submit your book in RTF, DOC, DOCX or EPUB formats (Don't try PDF format. It doesn't work, Ironically). You can then get discounted author copies and hand them out or you can go to Google to advertise your books. Make sure to check your sizes.
Can't wait for the full video. I like to learn about new learning techniques as a learning junkie. :) My friends joke that if I don't learn something then it's time to call an ambulance. Learning is great if you make it great and you know why you learn. Noone will ever take away what you learn. And it can only pay off.
I don't think so Pomodoro technique is effective unless you are a person with minimum focus or you are having a difficult time in concentrating. If you take a break every 25 mins your are disrupting the flow or the focus. An uninterrupted focus for a considerable length of time (1 to 2 hrs) will give you a better results and increase your concentration. Having said that, every person has different mind set and different will power so find out what's best for you, try different stuffs and apply it. After all life is to be experimented to get the best out of you. So experiment...
so basically you are saying, a person with minimum focus won't get any better result to concentrate on their studies by using pomodoro technique? Is there so much time to do an experiment with life with thousand techniques?
Yea, the stop-and-go pattern is only best for when using a new part of your brain or a new muscle. If you aren't used to learning healthily- or can't find a way to make it happen for what you need, taking breaks could help reroute from frustration. Once you are doing it right, breaks don't become as necessary, just like getting used to a new job you have more stamina with physical and mental experience.
someone said it atlast. I am a programmer.. I totally. 25 mins pomodoro is not good.. coz mostly when I am in a good flow I get more done. so I and my colleagues.. we do a 90 min. pomodoro witj 30 min. break
It took many years but I figured out how I learn. I have to first understand the Big Picture- what is it? Why should I learn this? What are the components? How do the components fit together in the whole? Then, once I have answered the Big Picture I can concentrate on the components of the Big Picture and understand how they fit in. But if I don't understand the Big Picture and I don't see how the components fit in, then I am lost. The Pomodoro Technique is outstanding, especially since I have ADHD and can either be unable to garner interest enough to start a project, or to interrupt me when I go into hyper-concentration mode. I like Mind Maps since they allow one to add later details to a project. I especially like to have all the facts on one page before me.
Yes, I have used this learning technique before. It has gotten me through my senior year of undergrad and through my first semester in graduate school. I highly recommend the technique that Alux described in this video with taking short breaks to rest in between focused study sessions of about 30 minutes each. It is scientifically proven to work because our minds need these short breaks.
Yes. I have used the pomodoro technique for completely reading one book. I used the app called the 30-30 schedule, which gives google play game xp points after completing set of cycles. It motivate to complete the pomodoro cycle and earn the points. I'm using this technique even after completing the google play game achievements and this technique is helpful for focusing on work. The video is good. I liked the initial two methods on how to learn. Thank you.
Yes i have used the pomodoro technique for 3 years now since retuening to college. Ive had a fair amount of success with it since ive received 9 A's which brought up my GPA exponentially.
Alux.com is an awesome learning system. I used to drive listening to music but now music isn't allowed in my car. I only listen to alux videos. Great service, thanks
I would say that pomodoro technique is great before you reach momentum. Once momentum is reached then sitting 45 min up is more valuable than stopping the wheel every 20-30 min for a quick break.
I decided that for 2019, it was going to be the year of FOCUS: on myself, relationships, health and employment. I want to learn new things, add to my resumé that'll help open the doors necessary and get me one step closer in reaching my goals! Thanks ALUX! Happy New Year!!#KeepLearning#KeepGrowing
Pomodoro technique works but the time slice for study needs to be longer than 25minutes, at least for me. To gain focus after a break and to stay focussed, many suggest a time slice of 55minutes. However, using time slice of 1h30min with a 15minutes break works very well. With short time slices, I just ended up looking at the clock and rushing through reading something that I needed to and without proper understanding. A well known fact is: human brain can take up to 30minutes to focus after a break. This therefore rules out a pomodoro length of 25minutes.
...'LEARNING' is a gerund (modifying a noun as a verb) ...all living creatures 'learn' ...it is a progressive fact ...enhancing the process is almost counter-intuitive ...by 'specializing' in a subject, one obsesses in a vacuum ...tending to ignore all but the pertinent (to his/her field) ...I am an auto-didact ...not because I am a genius, but because I am infinitely curious ...When I 'study' a subject, I always keep an eye to the 'terminal point' ...I know this point when I 'bore easily' in debate ...when I outclass the PhD's ...Then I move on to the next curious moment. I am using the pomodoro from 2 years it's best. I read for 25 min 7 pages and dance for 5 min. Anything can be learned through it in less time.
Thanks for this tip. I've been using Pomodoro as well but I don't dance for 5 mins. I end up using the gadgets for hours.
