1960, 40 foot fishing trawler ran trips out to Tory from the Port Na Blagh pier. I was 9 years old, biggest adventure of my life up til then. Sister Roberta was 14, brother Mark was 8. Rough sea on the way out. The boat dropped us all off on the north east end , the rugged end of the island. Scary, bobbing up and down against a sheer wall of rock which you can easily identify from this film. We all had to walk the full length of the island, passing a few houses along the way, where stopped for a picnic in the open grass land, I hesitate to say fields. Further on I recall coming across a donkey outside a thatched cottage. An old lady came out the door and smiled at me and said, “Do you like the donkey?” I was very shy. I said nothing. But she knew that I did indeed love the donkey. The trawler picked us up from the pier in the “town,” if you could call it that. I loved the place. Full of mystery and enchantment. The trip back to Port Na Blagh was much smoother. Horn Head was very dramatic. I’ll never forget it. Sixty years ago.

Fantastic video! I've posted the link for this video in my group in Telegram, where we are studying Irish mythology. This video is a fantastic contribution to our understanding of the Irish myths and literature. Thank you very much!

Exquisite! Tory Island from above is beautiful, the film is really amazing, filmed on a pretty sunny day, it fully shows the great beauty of the island. It brings back precious memories of my three wonderful summer stays on Tory Island in 1996-2000. It must have changed a lot on the island since then (I last saw Tory Island from afar from Machaire Rabhartaigh and Cnoc Fola in spring in 2012) but the natural beauty of the island as seen from above stays the same. Thank you, Owen.

Fabulous, and great music! This island has much in common with its larger neighbour the Isle of Man - where my own more immediate ancestors came from, but who themselves largely originated from Donegal, and the Dublin area. I was directed here by an RTE 'Doc on One' story about the Last King of Ireland - Patsy Dan Rodgers. It was re-broadcast early this morning in Canada, where I live.

So beautiful. I wish I could move there and live with those people a quiet life. Oh I wish I could... maybe there is a little job for me there.
