One of the changes we’ve made to our training this year is increasing the volume, doing longer rides as well as putting in more hours each week, in preparation for some big events we have planned. In last week’s video, Syd rode her first ever century and this week we’re doing our first ever 6-hour race.
While we’ve raced long lap races like this before, we’ve always done it as a team, either with one another or with friends and family, which means you have some recovery built in while your teammates are out on course. But not this time. This time we’ll be taking on the challenge solo to see how many laps we can complete in 6 hours.

Syd: not gonna lie I was a little mad when you said “great job I thought I’d pass you earlier”. Kinda like the old dirt bike saying: dude you were hauling butt when I passed you! 😂
That KOM didn’t last very long 😂 nice racing with you and thanks for coming out!
Great job out there!! 💪
May we all be as gracious and thankful as Syd and Macky when sharing the trails with others.
Awsome example of story, video and "Most Importantly"😊 Trail Etiquette! Proud to Be a Patreon Supporter!
Not only are the two are top tier athletes, you are top tier ambassadors for the sport too. Love your energy and good vibes!!!
Thank you!
6 hours is a long time to do anything, let alone something as physical as mtbing. And here I'm bitching about the three hour race I'm doing tomorrow. Great job both of you and as always don't forget to be more awesome every day. 👍💪👊
P.S. Thanks for the inspiration. 😁
Good luck! And have fun!
@@sydandmacky Thanks y'all. I'll let ya know later how it went. Gonna give em hell!! 👊💪👍
I have a race update. This race was 2 laps at 12 miles per lap. So off the start I grabbed the lead and built over a one minute lead by the end of lap 1. I led the second lap and maintained my lead for 8 miles and with 4 miles to go, disaster struck. I had developed a cramp on the inside of my right knee. Every time I would put the power down on a climb, this cramp would snatch me. I finally had to dismount and walk this off while chugging some skratch. I managed to get the cramp to go away but my lead and the leader were long gone. I believe that I didn't drink enough during the race. Like Jimmy Buffett said, "it's my own damn fault". 😂 Lesson learned. I've watched enough Syd and Macky videos to know better. Anyway, it was a fun race and everyone went home in one piece. Thanks for the inspiration and all you do. Now I just gotta remember to be more awesome.........and drink during the race. 👍💪👊. ✌️out.
Macky, love to watch you race as you are always in the front pack going hard but I must admit how much I enjoy watching Syd when she has settled into her race routine and starts passing people, especially the guys who must dread being passed by a girl - apologies Syd and all of those other great lady racers out there, but us blokes are pretty simple human beings.😂 Keep up the great work both of you.
You guys are incredible
I've been trying the Skratch hydration out here on the longer rides. I do think at some point that extra sugar (aka dextrose) is really key. It's interesting to see how much you go through in a race event.... that's absolutely nuts.
PS: My wife hated the minion semi-slicks out here. I think it's because she's timid about side lugs... While I do miss the 'boat anchor' feel of the DHR2 when you slam on the rear brake (a semi slick is a little different riding style!), the DHR2 feels so slow by comparison. I'm probably not part of their target audience for these semi slicks... but it looks like an interesting tire. I'm usually anywhere from an DD assegai to an exo+ or 120tpi minion DHF in the front, and almost anything with big lugs in the back (assegai, DHF, high roller, DHR2, aggressor).
Syd’s comment, “Road some corners like it was my first day on a bike” cracked me up. 😂
I love your sunglasses
Your video is inspirational for me,
thanks for record your day =)
Mackie, stop trippin on your tires! He’s always overthinking his tires and then the light weight ones always get flat.
The worst thing about bike racing is, bike racing.
Congrats just wanted to say the footage looks amazing. So crispy and clear. Really enjoyed this one. 😊
Thank you!! xx
“And then rode some corners like it was the first day on the bike!”
Yes, totally agree - warms ups suck but are mostly very necessary especially as one gets older. Awesome racing and video as always!😅
Question. You all may have addressed it in the past, so I apologize in advance. What do you do with your previous sponsorship bikes? Enjoy your videos
Sell them.
Well done! You guys are inspiring.
Y’all should sign up for the Vapor Trail 125 in Salida , CO! 4 spots left!
Not this year, but it's on the bucket list for someday!
You are both AMAZING!
Thank you!! xx
"Wing bones"....nice 😉
lol that slide out made me react on the trainer.
gave me a jump scare when I was editing too lol
If you want to really suffer then try NA’s largest 24hr race, 24 hrs of summer solstice, in the solo category. It’s humbling to be on your 3rd lap for your team and be passed by a solo on their 15th+ lap, lol. Some real human machines.
best youtube channel!
Hard to say if I admire you guys more or envy you.. I could probably do a 75 minute single lap on that course using my EBIKE...followed by a gallon of gatorade and a long nap in the shade.
Well done, guys! It seems you're doing so much better this season. At least so far. You're inspiring me to get race ready. Great work, both of you.
Im old, but i think listening to music or whatever makes you soft.
I almost did a 6 hour race. Day 5 of of BCBR 😂
😂
GREAT race you two, fun to watch you lap to lap. Thanks for sharing!
I totally laughed watching this thinking how fast you were going on that first lap and that somehow you all were going to be able to sustain that for 6 hours. Always enjoy watching your videos Great content and great racing and training etc.. Y'all are amazing athletes
Fun to watch. What a difference between asking politely to pass vs the racers cutting around people at the first part of the video.
Awesome video as always!!!! Galisteo Basin is a super fun XC trail system. Just a ton of fun. 😊
Love that trail. I try to get out there 2-3 times a week. Macky is book'n.
Great video again. You guys are proper hardcore. #keepracing
Dang I bet you guys are ready for some rides with loam and actual mountains. That terrain has got to get old
Wahoo!!! Congrats to you both., awesome race.
Did 38 miles with 7000 ft of climbing on a full rigid SS in north GA. I was way under prepared. I had only done half the distance and half that amount of climbing before. I didn't really train for it either. Legs were cramping for the last 10 miles. It was brutal. Finished last, of those that did finish, lol.
DFL always beats DNF :) congrats!
Macky, when you inflate tires, do you inflate to max psi and check the lines on the sidewalls to ensure the tire is seated, or do you just stop at or just above your preferred psi and just check them then? I'm wondering if it's actually dangerous to pump up to "max" pressure (just to help seat the beads) since I had my 2.2 Maxxis tire blow off of my rim when it was at my tires max psi, which was 60.
I do check that the bead has seated all the way around on both sides, but that rarely requires going over 25 or 30psi, at least on this tire/rim combo.
When I wrestled in college, we called our warm-up "the suck before the suck".
love that!! haha
What air compressor setup was that in your garage? I couldn’t hear it at all which is amazing. My air compressor is loud as heck.
Check out last week's video for full details, but the compressor is in an outside shed so that's why you can hear it!
Am I mistaken, the course doesn't look to be very technically difficult??? Just a long 9 mile loop with much ups?? From what I saw it kinda reminds me in parts to the Road Apple Rally in Farmington.
Less sandy than Road Apple and a few more rocks, but yes, not especially technical.
@@sydandmacky Thank you!!! Seemed like a nice fun place to ride.
Warm up? I have so much to learn.
Can we get that playlist please!!
13:08 that’s how I usually crash haha
Did the Keaton (high school kid) get the KOM he was trying for?
Unfortunately not. One of the later laps by his teammate was faster.
Way to kick some ass! Nice job!!
Just curious what is the length of Mackys cranks? Please, and by no means am I an expert .. lol.. just curious.. that guy in black in the beginning of your first lap in front of Macky looked Like he really had short cranks...
Syd and I both run 175s on our XC bikes
Thank You for responding ... always best wishes to you both!!!
4:20
excellent job!
Damn six hours of racing
SUPER AWESOME guys! 😎😎
Awesome job both of you!
How did you like your new tires?
We're very happy with them! Took a minute for me to get used to the ST on the back, but then I started to really like it. Rolling speed is amazing.
Nice! La Tierra trails?
Galisteo Basin, similar terrain though
Could this be done on a gravel bike?
We have ridden these trails on a gravel bike and they're fun, but I wouldn't recommend racing this on a gravel bike. Don't think it would be faster and it would be pretty rough on your body.
Feel like i saw someone at the start of the race on a gravel bike? I'd be a bit nervous to do this on drop bars- mostly just because of the loose corners.
I wish you had a little bit of video of what is behind you. The view behind you. Just curious.
Of who is following you.
PS. Y'all remind me of the Pony Express, but on Mountain bikes 🚲
I say cut the fitness bullshit and just get an electric mountain bike! 1000% more fun! 😂
we have several!
@@sydandmacky ❤️ oh good! They are so fun! I'm 58 and I have given in and I am sick and tired of beating myself up. Have fun! ❤️❤️💪💪
