  • - US think tank CSIS admits previous claims of Russia's flagging military industrial output were inaccurate;
    - CSIS reports massive production numbers of Russian tanks, artillery guns and shells, as well as drones, missiles, and electronic warfare systems;
    - CSIS recommendations are decoupled with reality and the prerequisites required to expand military industrial production across the West to catch up to Russia;

    Looks like they weren't listening to what Russia was saying at home! The Independent UK, Wednesday 22 November 2017 Russian business should be prepared to switch to production to military needs at any time, said Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. The Russian president was speaking at a conference of military leaders in Sochi.
    “The ability of our economy to increase military production and services at a given time is one of the most important aspects of military security,” Mr Putin said. “To this end, all strategic, and simply large-scale enterprise should be ready, regardless of ownership.”
    A day earlier, the president had spoken of a need to catch up and overtake the West in military technology. “Our army and navy need to have the very best equipment - better than foreign equivalents,” he said. “If we want to win, we have to be better.”

    An excerpt :
    The majority of people, by the way, don’t actually understand the real reason behind Germany’s trepidation at sending the Taurus. It’s not that Germany is somehow more afraid to get involved, considering the fact they’re already the top aid provider besides the U.S.
    It has more to do with the fact that, unlike the Storm Shadows, limited to under 250km for the export versions given Ukraine, the Taurus comes stock at well over 500km range, and is reportedly secretly capable of carrying nuclear warheads-a fact the Bundestag indirectly confirmed by declining to answer the question recently, stating it was ‘top secret information’.
    That means the Taurus presents a totally different type of strategic threat if used against Russia. From the Russian standpoint, if a Taurus were to be launched into Russian territory, Russia would have no choice but to treat it as a potential nuclear first strike attack from NATO, given that Moscow is less than 500km from Ukrainian territory and there is no way to determine if the missile is nuclear-armed during its inbound flight. This opens up an entirely different can of worms, which would doctrinally give Russian armed forces the allowance to potentially respond to Germany in almost any escalatory measure, up to and including preventative nuclear launch on Berlin.
    Germany knows this, which is why the Taurus is off the table. However, they’re now considering their old ‘circular’ game of providing the Taurus to the UK in exchange for UK freeing up its remaining Storm Shadow stocks to Ukraine, etc.

      that's kind of an overstatement. The first year of the war was sort of a clusterfuck on both sides. Especially the initial entry which looked a lot more like a psychological operation in order to shock the opponent into capitulation and Russia clearly seemed to lack a plan B for a while and it took a number of changes in top tier military staff to change the approach. And even now there's a lot of issues with military bureaucracy stifling the army's ability to evolve and advance.

      @@lemagnifikyves9533 I mean if that's what you want. It's hard to definitively tell if the west has failed since there might be varying opinions on what the west's objectives really are. If the objective is a decisive victory over Russia with subsequent partitioning of it then the west has failed due to its unbelievable hubris, gross underestimation of the opponent and viewing the conflict through ideology coloured glasses. Their equipment and training aren't as good as they think and Russia isn't as incompetent as they'd like to believe. Also it proved that economics isn't a real, or at least not an exact, science since the western economists absolutely failed to predict the outcome of sanctions.
      On the other hand some might say that the west simply wanted to invest in a prolonged war which might benefit them in the long run through weakening Russia and turning Ukraine in to a debt slave after the war is over. In that case the west is doing rather ok, although there are many indicators that this is not their intended goal and it would be giving their dim witted politicians too much credit.

    You are completely right! You are one of the few real and not fake experts in the West. I’ve been talking about this for 10 years on various forums, but in the West people prefer to believe propaganda and movies rather than look at facts and reality, so reality begins to hit them over the head in the end.
    There are many cases when the T90 tank withstood a direct hit from up to 12 ATGM missiles and at the same time the crew survived and the tank did the same. But the West often distributes a cropped video of the T90 battle against two Bradleys, while no one said that one Bradley was completely destroyed along with the crew, the second was seriously damaged and could not accept further combat, and the crew partially survived, while the tank was attacked by Bradley guns, two kamikaze drones and an anti-tank missile, while the crew survived and the tank was subsequently evacuated and restored. As for the Abrams, reality has shown that the tank is too heavy for open areas and the engine is weak and it’s enough to drag it over rough terrain, and to immobilize it, it’s enough to hit one kamikaze drone from the back of the turret, and a second drone hitting it a little higher destroys it and the crew as the ammunition detonates.

      An ancient T-55 used in the mobile fire support role is far superior to the brand new US M-10 booker in firepower and protection despite the Booker being specifically made for this role. Infact its all round superior to the 10x more expensive Booker just as a normal tank. It really puts into perspective how overblown and impotent "superior" American weapons tech actually is.

    No matter how you look at it, the Russian tank is better constructed than any Western tank. Only when you compare the different weights of the vehicles, you see that the Western tanks on the Ukrainian terrain are an excellent target for shooting exercises. They pop like popcorn from overexertion from the weight. Even up to 80 tons. The heaviest Russian tank is about 55 tons, otherwise the average is somewhere around 40-45 tons. So if you ignore everything else, this is enough to say which tank is better in this war.

      Breaking News from Moscow-May, 2024
      Apparently, The Kremlin after much debate and consideration has announced that it will be releasing a video taken on Jeffery Epstein’s sex Island about four years ago staring Justin Trudeau, Canada’s current PM. This video was secretly recorded by one of the security guards from the island and sent to the Kremlin. In the video Trudeau is seen naked and explicitly engaging in what looks like rough oral and anal sex with two also naked, muscular, turban wearing, heavily tattooed, Hindu men. Stray tune reader-more is coming soon.

      I disagree. Think Tanks exist to market the ideology of the individual(s) that fund them. So they are thinking hard, it's just about spin, propaganda, and deception, rather than objective analyses. Also they're tax-exempt, so the MIC billionaires that fund them can consider such money spent as a "charitable" donation to the people who sell their desired ideology and policies.

    While I greatly value Brian's analysis on military matters, on the question of military production, and the problems the US is having, I think he's fundamentally misunderstanding the economics.
    Of course a government owned company will build whatever the government orders, but so will a private company. No company will turn down a lucrative military contract. Many small manufacturers in the US would love to bid on a shell production contract. However, this almost never happens. Large military contracts are almost always done in back-room deals between lobbyists, congressmen, and DOD procurement types. Yes everyone is in it to make money. The congressman wants the arms factory in his back-yard plus a large campaign contribution, and the DoD guys want to make sure that their friends get the contract, and so on. This is no different in Russia, government procurement always has a certain level of corruption built-in. Both General Dynamics and Uralvagonzavod are for profit companies. Uralvagonzavod exports T90-s to India and many other countries, they also make train cars that they export around the word. Russia, doesn't have a large military budget so they want all their government companies to be profitable. In fact until recently Russia was thinking about privatizing Uralvagonzavod. The main difference between them is not who owns the company shares but the political system. In the US, the economy follows a corporatist model, in Russia and China it is more free-market (like the US up till the 1920's). That means Russia and China can produce goods a lot cheaper and a lot quicker than US and Europe . Turning General Dynamics into a another government bureaucracy like Amtrak is not the solution. The US needs to reduce regulations on manufacturing, labor, environment, diversity, arms sales, etc. Of course cracking down on corruption in both Congress and the Pentagon wouldn't hurt either. The other big factor is the talent of the work force (compare Elon Musk to Mary Barra). Russia has a lot of great minds improving manufacturing, the US does not.

    'Ukraine issue' has provided a great deal of revelations on the workings, benefactors, objectives, goals as well as on elementary biases & misinformations that these types of unprofessional strategic think tanks propagate. Russians are winning and would continue to achieve as the Western colloquial crumble for thr inability to reason.
