Absolutely spot on! They markets being flooded with so many variations of the same cards its exhausting. There shoukd never be more that 5 variations of a rookie, but I guess the deem it necessary to make 100 rookie cards for each player, so damn frustrating.
@@redcapesports I absolutely agree, I was heavy into it from 98-2003 had a huge collection, just in the last 2 years I re entered the hobby only to be shocked at the prices and all the crazy variations and counterfeiting going on! Imiss the days when you could get a beckett price guide and be set. Those days are long gone I appreciate the content and honesty! The hobby needs more of it
The numbered cards create scarcity, at least they did until numbered cards began to get made in hundreds of versions. As it is tho, some of these cards are still worth, or selling for,4 figures. If they were as scarce as some may want, you’d have utterly unattainable cards almost no one could afford.
Although I agree with your take in theory...I gotta say that ALL THE MAJOR trading card companies are not in this to ensure scarcity...they are in it to make money. PERIOD. Not that your feelings aren't valid...they just have ZERO baring on the bottom line of these companies. But I digress... Either start your own company or buy one that's already established...because its never gonna change...and furthermore...it kinda irks me that people think that they can tell other people how to run their company based on feelings. Also...people can just not buy the cards if they don't like them.
We definitely understand that these companies are in to make profit. We get that. However, with so many different variations of cards and so many different rookies everything starts to get diluted. There are so many wander Franco rookies that even when you pull one, you're just no longer excited -- Even as a collector
Card collecting was so much better in the 80’s when there was topps and o-pee-chee and then in the 90’s they brought out upper deck, bowman, then select and fleer, Donruss… only have 1 card company so it’s not so confusing… How many rookies of 1 guy do you need to collect… count the Jeter rookies how many Jeter rookies from how many different companies… What pizza did you get and from where? Same thing too many places too get pizza !!
Well, Panini and Topps I don't think care anymore. Its all about the money to them!! Hopefully Fanatics will resolve this problem, cause I've stopped buying new products because they are messing up the hobby!
Why buy with an expectation of making money or selling? Why do you need scarcity? Panini is in the business to make money. Your business is to make money off their products? Love the channel, keep it up
@@redcapesports I believe that the availability and production of the product is what makes it readily collectable for the massive amount of people buying not the scarcity. Unless again your looking to turn and make money.
Panini has like 3 million sticker autos. They want to get rid of them. Solution, make a ridiculous amount of new stuff to use them. That is a bigger issue
That is why I am no longer ripping panini products and am loving hockey Upper Deck. The young guns will always hold value and be huge, showing base is not dead. Hockey of course is not printed at the rate of other sports and that is why many of them are valuable as base.
Zion has 2019 different variations of a rookie card. I forget where I seen that info. Ken Griffey jr the king of junk rc only had 3 just to put in prospective
I don’t agree. I think that the colors and designs and sets elevate the cards to the price points you see now. Also the demand for modern sports cards is exploding right along with sports betting. It’s a fun hobby that many people enjoy. I don’t think that having different options hurts the overall hobby. Your mindset is off
Why don’t you blame yourself for buying garbage Zion rookies and not understanding the sports card market / industry instead of blaming the companies that produce these? This is purely clic bait….all the yelling and screaming. Go scream in the mirror at your bad decision.
There’s much more people in the hobby internationally not just in America which means you gotta make more product but if you’re complaining so much why not start collecting and searching for the low numbered stuff.
Collect vintage and your problems disappear,
I mean, for the most part you're absolutely right
I agree.
Which card has made you feel this way?
Yes this is ridiculous!
Glad we're not alone

Lol so many options is right
2002 NBA Topps Chrome has an autograph checklist of 5 players
2020 NBA Prizm has an autograph checklist of 100 players (50 vets and 50 rookies)
Exactly. Overprinting can lead to a modern junk wax era
Wander Franco. They over printed that card to death.
Lol they have like 80,000 of his rookies
We are definitely in another junk wax era.....you are better off collecting #s cards until they find a way to mess that up as well.
Lol no faith 😂

Lol, a lot of people have faith in Fanatics... hopefully we're not disappointed
Thats one of the reasons why I stick to UFC. Not too many products.
UFC is definitely on our radar
Absolutely! Well put. 👏👏
Appreciate it!
Prices have to come down the regular fan can afford it
That's fair
I’m glad you called out that horrible pose. I refused to get one as it’s that bad. I rather have a Hoops than that ridiculous photo!

Scarcity is just better regardless of turning profits. If something is easy to get, the desirability and collectable aspect goes down.
@@redcapesports I believe that the availability and production of the product is what makes it readily collectable for the massive amount of people buying not the scarcity. Unless again your looking to turn and make money.
Totally agree!!!
It's all a money grab!
Panini has like 3 million sticker autos.
They want to get rid of them. Solution, make a ridiculous amount of new stuff to use them.

Not a fan of sticker autos but I understand the logistics behind them. Too hard to get numerous athletes the cards in hand to sign

Definitely agree. Young Guns are being slept on
Modern blows period
Modern is definitely still fun. Just gotta be more selective
That’s why I collect vintage hockey, maybe 3 or 4 of each players rookie such as jagr pro set, score, upper deck, opeechee
Hockey cards are slept on
Very upsetting
Definitely agree
Junk wax era again if u ask me. Also too many parallels. Thanks for the video.
We completely agree. Something's gotta change
Hey I was wondering what ever happened to the "Card Guru"?
Mike is doing great! We will have him on soon 👀

@@redcapesports Hey thanks for letting me know, I always enjoy Bird and Mike discussing the hockey card market.
This is why i stick to cards that are NOT ultra modern..

We're collectors before investors. What we're saying is it sucks to have so many variations of a card and so many rookies. Keep it simple

Yes, serial numbered cards are always going to do well imo
